From nuclear war, from incalculable self-destruction, from every kind of war, deliver us.

From hatred and from the demeaning of the dignity of the children of God, deliver us. From every kind of injustice in the life of society, both national and international, deliver us. From readiness to trample on the commandments of God, deliver us. From the loss of awareness of good and evil, deliver us. From sins against the Holy Spirit, deliver us. Accept, O Mother of Christ, this cry laden with the sufferings of all individual human beings, laden with the sufferings of whole societies. Help us with the power of the Holy Spirit to conquer all sin: individual sin and the “sin of the world, sin in all its manifestations. Let there be revealed once more in the history of the world the infinite saving power of the redemption: the power of merciful love. May it put a stop to evil. May it transform consciences. May your Immaculate Heart reveal for all the light of hope. Amen. (Source: www.usccb.org - search for Novena for Faithful Citizenship for prayers for the entire 9 days.) KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR PEACE To commemorate the September 11 terrorist attack, the Knights of Columbus passed a resolution in 2004 to observe September 11 as a world day of prayer for peace. Observance of this special day seeks to unite Knights, Catholics and all people of good will - regardless of their religious faith - in prayer for peace. For more information, go to www.kofc.org . COLLECTION FOR CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY The Catholic University of America is the national university of the Catholic Church in the United States, located in Washington, DC. It provides an academically rigorous education guided by Catholic intellectual tradition to 6,000 students every year. Next week is the national collection for the Catholic University of America. Every dollar we give directly supports financial aid for students from dioceses across the country, including the Diocese of Alexandria. Please be generous. Take in one hand a sponge saturated with water, and in the other a stone. Press them equally; nothing will come out of the stone, but out of the sponge you will force water in abundance. The sponge is the soul, filled with the Holy Spirit; the stone is the heart, cold and flinty, where the Holy Ghost dwelleth not.
