Dear Parishioners, There are some fellow parishioners who receive communion and then keep walking right out the doors of the church. Were they dismissed by the priest? No! Did they fulfill their obligation to attend Mass on Sunday? No! That is, of course, not unless they had a serious reason for leaving early. There could, for example, be someone sick that they need to get home quickly to manage their care. Valid reasons do not include rushing home to watch television. It is also safe to say that a valid reason for leaving Mass early would not happen every week of the year. Clearly, if you have not attended Mass from the beginning to the end you have not fulfilled your obligation. And that is a mortal sin! I hope, however, that people have a deeper reason for attending the entire Mass besides avoiding mortal sin. Only one person left the Last Supper early, Judas Iscariot, and you know what happened to him. Let’s love the Lord in the way he needs to be loved. We are asked to spend one measly hour with him every week. What is the hurry? Yes, sometimes it is tedious waiting for the very end of Mass before leaving. But that is what love does. Do we love the Lord or not? Sincerely yours, Father John

THE JOY OF TECHNOLOGY!! We installed Windows 7 on my office computer last week (from XP) and unfortunately I lost all my email contacts in Outlook. If you are a parishioner with whom I often or even sometimes communicate via email, please send me a hello so I can get you back into my Contacts. I backed up everything before the changeover - except my Contacts. Thank you! Laura SEPTEMBER 26 NOVEMBER 4 40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life campaign with a vision to access God’s power through prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil to end abortion. Even if there is not a 40 Days for Life campaign in your area, anyone can participate by praying and/or fasting on your own. Pray for an end to abortion. Pray for those involved in prayer vigils and pro-life action around the country. And consider fasting or doing without a favorite activity, like video games, TV or the Internet. Beginning September 26, there will be daily devotions online at www.40daysforlife.com . As often as, for love of Me, you suffer reproach, so often will I strengthen you and bear you up, so that nothing may be an obstacle between your soul and Me. And I will add to your merit what the person admonished would have gained by submitting humbly to your advice. The Lord, to St. Gertrude the Great CHURCH INFORMATION WEEKEND MASSES: Saturday 4:00 pm.
