On a bathroom wall I wrote “I’d rather argue with you than to be with someone else.” I took a piss and dismiss it and went and found somebody else. Arguing harvesting the feelings, I’d rather be by my fucking self. Till about 2am and I call back and I hang up and start to blame myself, Somebody help.
The song I chose was “Blame Game” By kanye West. The song is about dealing with heartbreak, the depression of loneliness and feelings of abandonment that ensue from a breakup. My photos were all taken in my apartment here at school to show the feeling of being boxed up and alone while the world still moves along without you. The pictures are made up of mostly dark colors and are slightly blurry to give off the desired affect of depression and isolation. Most shots are high angle shots that help add to the mood. The high angle shots make everything look smaller and weaker. Its gives the viewer a sense of empathy for the person living in this fictional world. The first photo is that off a bathroom in which one side is being used and the other has recently been abandoned. I used a sepia tone to make the scene more somber and depressing to draw attention to the fact that the “His & Her” sinks are now only being used by him. The second photo is a high angle shot of a bed that is only made on one side. Again I was going for a depressing picture that shows a person continuing to live life after heartbreak. Although they are making it through, the half way done bed and dark tone of the photo show the depression they are living through. The picture of a suitcase up against a wall is a blurry medium shot that is symbolic for abandonment. The lone suitcase represents everything he has lost. For the next picture I used a sepia tone to make the picture of the world outside dull and boring. This is symbolic for how a person going through depression sees the world. The memory of a normal world outside is muddy and faded. The use of a long shot invokes isolation and depression. The mood I was going for was like “life is happening while your inside letting is slip away.” The final picture is a black and white close-up of a Kanye West quote written down on paper. The quote is from the chosen song and speaks to the fact that we are nothing without love. With love we are whole, but human nature tears it apart and in result, breaks down the human psyche.
My visual aesthetic is from the short film “Runaway” by Kanye West. The screen shot shows Kanye running away from something. In the film he becomes depressed and isolated when he looses his significant other, and I felt this picture invokes his pain and true emotions.
