Letter from the CEO Welcome to the 2022 Economic Development Forum (EDF)!

W

e are excited to be back live and in person for the celebration of the 15th anniversary. The time has flown by and each year we have convened local, regional and national partners to discuss macroeconomic factors impacting M/WBEs as suppliers, as well as corporate engagement. The theme for this year’s conference, Engaging Strategies for Growth; Creating a Sustainable Future, seemed appropriate on the heels of the pandemic. For the last two years at the MMBC Continuum, all of our efforts were housed under the umbrella of relief, recovery, and stabilization, which allowed us to support Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises (M/WBEs) buy providing technical assistance through direct engagements and consultations. During the conference, we will present several viable growth strategies for business owners to consider, whether is it through public procurement, mergers and acquisitions or even resources to build a sustainable workforce. We have a line up of speakers ready to share opportunities that are on the forefront, that will require M/WBEs to be equipped and prepared to meet the demands as successful suppliers. As well, because of the size and scale of these new public and private projects, teaming will become an important component of the bid process. From a corporate perspective the EDF provides the vehicle to intentionally connect with diverse suppliers in order to build relationships, giving room and opportunity to shape conversations and forge new inclusive approaches to sourcing. We encourage everyone to go beyond the norm to try and experience the EDF in a new way. Following the pandemic, all of us here have been afforded the opportunity to shift the way we approach business. Please leverage the EDF and the strategies presented as a spring board to new sustainable growth. We thank you for joining us and look forward to receiving your feedback through our new event app that was implemented to make the entire conference accessible at your fingertips. Enjoy the conference!,

August 17, 2022 Dear Friends,

behalf of the constituents of Tennessee’s 9 Congressional District, it is my honor to welcome you to The Mid6 On South Minority Business Council Continuum (The MMBC Continuum) 15 Annual Economic Development Forum th

th

at the Renasant Convention Center, August 23-25, 2022.

The forum provides networking opportunities and exposure to corporate leaders, decision-makers, and M/WBEs. Your effort and your vision as the owners of small businesses provide lifeblood to the economic development of our community and our nation. I worked for several years to bring the Minority Business Development Agency Business Center to Memphis. It has been one of my top priorities for much of my time in Congress, as it assists local minority business owners in the pursuit of contracts and capital, which will help you compete in the global economy. Again, I welcome you to the 2022 Mid-South Minority Business Council Continuum 15th Annual Economic Development Forum. I have the utmost confidence that you will find this to be a rewarding experience. As always, I remain, Most sincerely,

Steve Cohen Member of Congress
