Abraham Lincoln: The 16th President Written and Illustrated by Jonathan Salem
He was president when the Civil War began. He was the 16th President of the United States of America. He served from 1861-1865, which was the end of the Civil War. He was six feet, 4 inches tall. Abraham Lincoln died in a movie theater five days after the Civil War ended. A man named John Wilkes Booth shot him because he was angry that the North won the war. Lincoln died that night, April 15, 1865. He was the first president to be assassinated.

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12,1809 in Hodgeville, Kentucky. He grew up in a poor family. When he was 10 his mom died. He stayed with his brother and sister. Later on, his brother died too. He had to work hard, so he did not go to school much. His father married again. Lincoln liked his stepmother. He grew up with many stepsisters. Abraham Lincoln is famous because he helped stop slavery and helped make our country stay together.
