Mourning Rituals is a performance-based video reimagining the Korean ssitkimgut ritual, during which the spirits of the deceased are cleansed and guided into the afterlife.

11 th Rustem Hayroundinoff Piano Concerto

Historic Hoover Theatre, San Jose Rustem Hayroudinoff has performed to critical acclaim in Japan, the USA, Latin America, Canada, Russia and Europe. He has recorded for Chandos, EMI and Onyx Classics. His CD of the complete Rachmaninoff Preludes was selected by Classic FM Magazine as part of its ‘Essential Rachmaninoff Collection’ together with the recordings of Arthur Rubinstein and André Previn. Hayroudinoff’s disc of the complete Rachmaninoff Études-Tableaux was hailed as a ‘benchmark recording’ and became BBC Music’s Instrumental Choice of the Month, as well as being nominated for the Best Instrumental CD of the Year. BBC Radio 3’s ‘Building a Library’ selected the disc as the finest existing version of these pieces.

When Salvatore grows up, falls in love with a beautiful local girl, and takes over as the Paradiso's projectionist, Alfredo must convince Salvatore to leave his small town and pursue his passion for filmmaking. This beloved film features one of the most unforgettable of all movie scores by Italian maestro Ennio Morricone. The film won a BAFTA award for Best Original Score.

George Gershwin Alone reviews the composer’s brilliant and prolific partnership with his brother, lyricist Ira Gershwin, incorporating beloved songs ranging from the popular hits “Fascinating Rhythm,” “I Got Rhythm,” “’S Wonderful” and “They Can’t Take That Away from Me,” to excerpts from his groundbreaking musicals Porgy and Bess and An American In Paris, and a complete performance of “A Rhapsody In Blue.” Felder’s exploration of Gershwin’s short but extraordinary life illuminates the master tunesmith whose work shaped a distinctly American style of music.

Fannie: The Music and Life of Fannie Lou Hamer

Fannie: The Music and Life of Fannie Lou Hamer traces Hamer’s inspiring gospel journey to justice, from sharecropper to cofounding the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party and becoming an outspoken voice for African American voting rights. Featuring songs including “This Little Light of Mine” and “We Shall Not Be Moved,” this incendiary call to action will ignite audiences to rise up and do their part to fight for what’s right.

March 9 th – April 22 nd

Murder and blackmail are on the menu as six mysterious guests arrive at Boddy Manor for an unusual dinner party. When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects and race to find the killer as the body count rises. This uproarious comedy whodunit should leave both cult-fans and newcomers in stitches as they try to solve the mystery. San Francisco Playhouse Co-Founder and Producing Director Susi Damilano helms a starry cast of theatre veterans who personify the game’s iconic characters, including Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, and Colonel Mustard.

Nakamatsu Plays Grieg Piano

Concerto

The California Theatre, San Jose San Jose’s own Cliburn gold medal winner Jon Nakamatsu reprises the first work he ever played with Symphony San Jose: Grieg’s Piano Concerto. The program ends with Florence Price’s pioneering Symphony No. 1, skillfully incorporating spirituals, folksong and syncopated African American dance rhythms into a classical structure.

Benjamin Grosvenor

Louis B. Mayer Theatre, Santa Clara Now among the world’s most admired pianists, Benjamin Grosvenor became the youngestever winner of the BBC Young Musician Competition at age 11. At 19, he was the youngest British musician ever signed by Decca Classics; his first album won the Gramophone award for best instrumental album of the year. He has also won the Classic Brits Critics’ Award, UK Critics’ Circle Award for Exceptional Young Talent, and a Diapason d’Or Jeune Talent Award. Grosvenor has been featured in two BBC television documentaries, BBC Breakfast and The Andrew Marr Show, as well as in CNN’s Human to Hero series. Since 2011 he has appeared eight times at BBC Proms.
