Message from the Owners Dear Friends, Our gallery director, Ms. Liv Spikes, has taken herself to sunny Colorado, where she and her family will settle following her husband’s recent promotion. We wish them all the best of fortune. The gallery welcomes a new associate, Mr. Randy Jones, who is a gentleman of some renown in Scottsdale’s art scene. Randy is a consummate and knowledgeable fine art professional, who has been in the art business literally his entire professional career. Some of you will remember him from our former neighbor, Duley-Jones Gallery, of which he was a principal. We expect great things for you and the gallery with a powerful team at Marshall-LeKAE that includes the inimitable Miss Janet Priset Sandino, whose exceptional talents you already know, our talented Miss Jessie Herndon, and director of marketing Kevin Earl. We bid Liv adieu and extend a warm welcome to Randy. We look forward to welcoming you and to a promising fine art season in Scottsdale. Cordially,

DeeAn & Peter Strub Principals The Marshall | LeKAE Gallery of Fine Art

M|L INSIDER Leaf Peeping in Scottsdale A chill in the air with leaves changing colors is an autumn experience in most of the country. Here in Arizona, however, you have to travel to the mountains or farther to find the sights and scents of autumn. This October, let us help you experience the changing season. Featuring works from Utah artist Dean Bradshaw, The Gallery will host “Leaf Peeping in Scottsdale,” opening Thursday, October 10, during ArtWalk. This is your chance to see some fall color without leaving the valley. Bradshaw doesn’t have to look far for inspiration with his home and studio sitting at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains in Salt Lake City. Looking out large picture windows he can see aspens and pines climbing the slopes of Mount Olympus. However, finding the right scene to paint can be difficult. “When I come across a scene I want to paint, it’s because of its strong design element and dramatic lighting,” said Bradshaw. “It takes a lot of driving and hiking to find that one great scene.” Thickly textured oil paints in bright oranges, dark crimsons and golden yellows give life to Bradshaw’s paintings keeping the work very textural. “It keeps me from focusing too much on detail,” he said. “For me, it becomes a much more spontaneous way of painting. When I paint thick, with a lot of color, it tends to be more on the feeling side than the technical side.” In New England the practice of going to look at the changing leaves is called Leaf Peeping. Enthusiasts of this hobby will hold annual “peepshows” in particularly spectacular locales. This year the peepshow is in the heart of Scottsdale’s art district. Join us October 10, 7-9 p.m. for the opening. The show will run through November 2. M|L INSIDER Bruce Brainard Utah | Oil Paintings Bruce Brainard’s love of landscapes developed in his childhood while being raised in a small farming community nestled under the Tetons in the upper Snake River Valley of southeastern Idaho. His love was further intensified as a young man while working in the fields. Bruce observed the surrounding landscape while pondering the meaning of life. His love of painting landscapes began at Brigham Young University (BYU) while majoring in fine art. He finished his BFA with an emphasis in oil painting in 1988. After a brief period developing his craft outside the structure of school, Bruce returned to BYU and obtained an MFA in 1992. Grandeur | 24 x 40
