Dear Friends and Club Members,

O

n behalf of the whole team at Schramsberg and Davies Vineyards, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of you for enjoying our wines and supporting our second-generation family business throughout the past challenging stretch of time. After the unprecedented difficulty presented by the 2020 North Coast wildfires a year ago, we are elated to report that managing the 2021 vintage was far less dramatic. Our young wines are now resting safely in tanks and barrels, and they are exhibiting the vibrant depth of flavor afforded by a relatively cool and very dry growing season. Low rainfall accumulation again led to light crop yields this year, yet our winemakers and growers were successful in broadening the great range of vineyards that we work with, and we sit in fine shape as we prepare to blend and bottle. While we look forward to sharing our 2021 wines with you in the years ahead, for the moment we are excited to present this year’s diverse array of delicious Schramsberg sparkling and Davies red wines. In our 2021 Fall/Winter Catalog, we celebrate many

of the people behind our wines. We are thankful for the skilled work and dedicated effort of each member of our team, and throughout the catalog we introduce them and acknowledge their contributions. A few longtime members of the team that I’d like to highlight are Efren Torres, Beth Wagner and Matias Lopez. Hired in 1974, Assistant Production Manager Efren Torres will retire this coming January, becoming the longesttenured employee in our company’s history. We can’t thank him enough for his 48 years of service. Club and Export Manager Beth Wagner has now surpassed 41 years in service, while our Head Groundskeeper Matias Lopez is nearing 33 years. We are truly blessed to have them continue with us. On the other end of the length of employment spectrum at Schramsberg-Davies is our new assistant winemaker for Davies Vineyards, Csilla Kato. When longtime Davies associate winemaker Jessica Koga was promoted to winemaker for our Schramsberg sparkling wines this year, we searched high and low for her replacement. We could not be happier with

Csilla, who has spent many years working in the Napa Valley, especially with Beringer Vineyards and Stags’ Leap Winery. Her knowledge and experience with a great variety of Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in Napa Valley meshes well with our progam of vineyardspecific Cabernets from both our own estate and from other partner vineyards. The pairing of food and wine is also heralded on these pages with suggested recipes and preparations, including my mother—and Schramsberg co-founder— Jamie’s apple torte for our 2017 Crémant Demi-Sec. This gently effervescent, semi-dry sparkling wine is also an ideal selection for pastry and pie preparations, and we invite you to try it with your own favorite dessert as well. Ad Hoc’s Fried Chicken recipe is absolutely a winner with our 2016 Hyde Vineyards Blanc de Blancs. Feel encouraged to fire up the fryer this winter as you enjoy the vibrant depth of this vineyard-designate Chardonnay brut bottling, aged four years en tirage. The just-released 2013 J. Schram Rosé would be a great choice for a lobster ravioli with sage brown butter sauce. We might suggest the use of a larger-bowled Burgundian glass to set this concept up for maximum success as there is some gorgeous depth to this Rosé. Building on our recent success with extra brut bottlings, the 2017 Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut will be another super choice for holiday entertaining. Palate-cleansing and energetic, this lively Pinot Noir-based bubbly begs to be paired with food. We love it as the perfect complement to a charcuterie, cheese, crudité, fruit and nut platter before dinner, or paired with a mushroom risotto as a main course. And we are also thrilled to present our current selection of Davies red wines. Right at the top of the list is the 2017 J. Davies Estate “Jamie” Cabernet Sauvignon. Crafted from the ten best barrels of the vintage, this bottling is aged for four years prior to release. Try it with the prime rib at Christmas dinner or the lamb stew recipe included here over the winter. We also recommend laying it down in the cellar for that special occasion 10-20+ years down the road. The remaining 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon offerings represent outstanding vineyards up and down the valley, as well as the generous, flavorful 2018 vintage. Not to be left out is the fantastic set of 2019 Pinot Noirs, led by our first-ever Keefer Ranch Russian River

Valley bottling. After working with this West Sonoma County property in our sparkling wine program for 20 years, we were thrilled to be able to purchase a 20-acre section of it two years ago, making it possible for us to produce this delectable red wine for the many years to come. We hope that you enjoy the effort that we put into creating this year’s catalog. Thank you for considering the range of our sparkling and red wine offerings for holiday dining, entertaining and gift giving. These bottles will also age gracefully with future cellaring long into the future. You’ve gotta love fine wine! With coronavirus cases and restrictions decreasing, we are also thrilled to have happy, healthy wine enthusiasts visiting wine country again. Our first Camp Schramsberg after a year and half hiatus was a super success this last September, and a broader set of food and wine tastings have gained popularity at both wineries this fall. Looking forward, we are again planning for our big club party next spring. Lastly, our family is ecstatic to have the Vintner Cruise on the Baltic and North Seas on the calendar for July 2022. Anticipating this voyage as one of those great trips of our lives, we would be thrilled to have you join us. lanc de Blancs was the first wine Schramsberg produced in 1965 and America’s first commercially produced Chardonnay-based sparkling wine...and this was back when there were little more than 100 acres of Chardonnay planted in all of California. The Blanc de Blancs gained international recognition in 1972 when then President Nixon served the wine at the historic “Toast to Peace” in Beijing, China. chramsberg also pioneered the Blanc de Noirs style in the United States, producing the first such commercial American sparkler in 1967. The key to producing this Blanc de Noirs is our sourcing of pinot noir grapes from a vast and varied selection of coolclimate vineyards. Pinot Noir from Carneros and Anderson Valley combine with fruit from low-yielding Sonoma and Marin coastal vineyards to develop a sparkling wine with a breadth of fruitful aroma and flavor. he Brut Rosé is influenced by bright Pinot Noir from Carneros, Sonoma and Marin coastal areas, and the Anderson Valley. Small lots of Pinot Noir are fermented in contact with the skins to add depth and subtle color. Chardonnay gives it drive and structure. he unique Flora grapes in our Crémant Demi-sec unite the fruit-forward character of Gewürztraminer with the strength, depth and minerality of Sémillon. “Crémant” is French for creamy and traditionally refers to a wine with light effervescence.
