“ By living with girls from around the world, your horizons broaden indefinitely and you form lifelong connections” – Felicia

At MLC we are proud of our history of excellence in education. With over 2,100 students from MLC Kindle to Year 12, a superb boarding house and a state-of-the-art early learning centre, MLC offers every student a wealth of exciting opportunities. Founded in 1882, MLC is one of Australia’s leading independent girls’ schools, internationally recognised for our extensive curriculum choice, cutting edge approach to education, varied learning experiences and outstanding academic results.

Tiddeman House offers a home away from home for approximately 120 boarders from regional and rural Australia and a variety of countries from around the globe.

At MLC we are firm believers that the skills and knowledge learned in the classroom is just the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning. There has never been a more exciting time to be at MLC as we continue to pave the way in educational innovation and academic excellence. We are committed to engaging the best minds to pioneer learning techniques and implement best practices in teaching. We are determined to achieve the highest levels of distinction in the discovery and transmission of knowledge, and endeavour to nurture independent and grounded young women, who delight in the diversity of human experience and who are confident in their ability to make a difference.

Situated in MLC’s leafy gardens, boarders reside in the historic Tiddeman House. Tiddeman House is a safe, caring environment that combines tradition with state-of-the-art facilities and technology. We endeavour to provide a culture that offers independence, privacy, flexibility and fun. The experience enables boarders to develop confidence and resilience, and a deeper understanding of diversity.

“ Boarding at MLC has meant I have been able to study the International Baccalaureate, a course recognised globally. I have made many friends in the Boarding House and in the day school especially through being part of the MLC rowing squad. Living away from the farm at home has allowed me to enjoy the opportunities of Melbourne and all it has to offer but has also allowed me to recognise the value of my family and my love of country living” – Annabel 4

Tiddeman House has a team of dedicated staff who are committed to delivering best practice residential care. Our staff are chosen for their caring attitudes and approachable personalities. They are tertiary qualified, experienced and dedicated to helping every student achieve their academic goals.

Student wellbeing is paramount at MLC.

The team includes a Head of Boarding, Assistant Head of Boarding, Year Level Coordinators and Tutors, who work together to help each student manage their learning and to ensure that they achieve their personal best. Our tutors liaise regularly with day school teaching staff and parents so that each boarder’s learning needs are met and academic progress is monitored.

PERSONALISED HEALTHCARE A fully qualified nurse is available for consultation in the Health Centre from 7.45 am – 4.15 pm on school days.

Our wellbeing program has been designed to encourage each student to participate, become part of a team and realise her full potential. The wellbeing structure in each school varies to cater for the developmental needs of each age group. Services offered by the College Nurse, Student Counsellors, International Student Advisor and Chaplains, are available to MLC students and their families and are an intrinsic part of the support network. Our commitment to student wellbeing underlies all our programs, our curriculum and co-curricular activities. We believe that success does not only come from having the confidence to achieve academically, it comes from developing each student’s emotional intelligence, her resilience, confidence and compassion for others.

Outside these times, the Boarding House Tutors facilitate the care of every boarder, working closely with the College Nurse, doctors and specialists.

The College provides an eclectic range of co-curricular activities and all boarders are encouraged to get involved and try something new. Aside from the many sports, music and drama opportunities, students are encouraged to engage in the many clubs and student actions groups available throughout the College.

MLC is located in Kew, seven kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD. Our central location builds upon our already extensive access to resources and information, as well as offering the boarding community easy access to Melbourne’s famous cultural environment.

With a strong voice, MLC’s student leadership body includes two Boarding House Senior Student Leaders. Election for these positions are held as part of the Senior School Leadership selection process and, once elected, Boarding Senior Student Leaders guide their peers and contribute to College decision-making. Boarders also have the opportunity to become a Boarding House Leader and take on an integral role in representing both the boarding house and the College. Boarding House Leaders organise activities for boarders, mentor younger students and guide other boarders to achieve their academic goals.

WORLD-CLASS FACILITIES MLC’s state-of-the-art learning environment provides students with world-class opportunities for achievement, exploration and personal development.

From our advanced science centre, award-winning MLC Libraries, state-of-the-art Physical Education Centre and professional TV studio and video editing suites, MLC’s facilities are truly exceptional.
