Camille Savès

Champagne, France

Carte Blanche 1ER Cru NV

A stylishly presented, traditionally made Veneto fizz. Ripe, softly rounded pear flavours with plenty of lemony freshness. Drink as an apéritif or partner with pasta, chicken and fish dishes.

This carefully executed, beautifully delivered pink sparkler is a seamless blend of Old World winemaking know-how and ultramodern presentation. Strawberry-tinted, fruity and beautifully balanced, this looks and tastes absolutely great.

The historic, family owned Champagne house Bollinger is synonymous with classic elegance, style and luxury amongst lovers of the finest wines. Rich, powerful and full flavoured - and available on our unmissable 6 bottle case offer this Christmas.

Rich in Pinot Noir, with a small proportion of Chardonnay, our new non-vintage Champagne is immensely delicate and fresh, with an inviting bouquet of apples and fresh bread. Classy and very likeable!

A blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Bouzy Rouge, the famous red wine made from Pinot grapes grown on the full south-facing vineyards above the village of Bouzy. Ripe, but delicate with lovely aromas of rose petals and fresh strawberries.

Mionetto Sergio Prosecco NV

Mionetto Sergio Rosé NV

This stunning vintage Crémant was latereleased from the cellar, giving it time to develop layers of complexity and finesse, in addition to the typical creamy, biscuit characteristics of a traditional Champagne method Blanc de Blancs.

Domaine D’Uby Domus Blanc 2008

Gavi Riva Leone 2008 Piemonte, Italy

HUNGERFORD 01488 684684

Made from Cortese grapes grown on the Piemonte Hills near the village of Gavi, this is a wonderfully flavoured wine, with hints of whites flowers, fresh green apples and just a touch of vanilla. Clean and fresh, this is perfect on its own or with lighter fish dishes.

Caviste Blanc 2008 Vin de Pays du Mont Baudile, France

Waterkloof Circumstance Viognier 2008

Macon Prisse Les Clochettes 2007/08

An Argentinian Verdelho is somewhat of a rarity and this is one of the best we’ve tasted. Notes of peaches and crisp green apples, with great zip and freshness in the mouth, balanced with a hint of creamy richness.

Light, floral notes yield quickly to piercing, fresh citrus tones, reminiscent of New World Sauvignon Blanc. On the palate a racy vein is counterpointed by a fleshy, mouth watering backbone of melon fruit with a refined, complex finish.

An intriguing and delicious wine, made for Caviste by English winemaker Gavin Crisfield in his rugged Languedoc estate. Within the blend, Sauvignon Blanc provides backbone and structure, whilst the delicate Muscat Petit Grain grape adds a gentle perfume of honeysuckle and apricots.

A classic, high quality white Burgundy which, for under £10 is an unmissable choice for the winter wine rack. Crisp, fresh and delicate unoaked Chardonnay, with a hint of lemon and cream.

Whilst Viognier’s home is in the Northern Rhône, this is a stunning example of the New World success with this variety. A wine which combines elegance and power, with flavours of white peach, violets and hints of apricot and a tight, mineral finish.

Stellenbosch, South Africa

Sancerre La Clochette 2008 Loire Valley, France

Côtes-du-Ventoux, France

Sitios de Bodega V3 VV Verdejo 2006

Burgundy, France

Rueda, Spain

The palate is soft, fleshy and honeyed, but with a typical palate-cleansing acidity. Look out for sweet citrus, layered with stone fruits and hints of honey and apricot, with a divine finish. The perfect apéritif.

80% Roussanne and 20% Clairette, this is a wine of extreme elegance and minerality with highly complex aromas of white flowers, tropical fruits, toasty brioche and a touch of honey. Its heavenly mouthfeel and palate weight is perfectly balanced with a beautifully refreshing acidity.

A multi-layered wine with great depth and complexity which makes a wonderful alternative to white Burgundy. Aromas of green apples and ripe peach, with hints of anise and herbs, leading to a rich, toasty palate with a balancing acidity and a lovely long finish.

Bernard and his sons Alex and Benoît have hit the top tier of Chassagne. Delicate aromas of green apples and pears are beautifully combined with subtle nuances of oak and vanilla. The lovely, clean backbone and rich mouthfeel make this a sublime choice for the Christmas table.

‘La Clochette’ means little bell and the rich, gooseberry fruit flavours in this wine certainly ring out. Dry, crisp and elegant, with the perfect balance of texture and that wonderfully unmistakable minerality.

With a small proportion fermented in oak to add complexity and mouthfeel, this beautifully perfumed wine delivers classic flavours of gooseberry, passion fruit, cut grass and touches of mango. Very well balanced with great length and a clean, refreshing finish - this is Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc at the top of its league.

Barbera Riva Leone 2007

Don Cristobal Malbec 2008

Piemonte, Italy

Mendoza, Argentina

Soft, juicy, and highly quaffable, this little gem from Italy’s fine wine region is packed full of dark berry fruits. With its core of fine tannins and typical Barbera acidity, it’s a perfect match for hearty winter dishes.

This divine, damson and violet-scented, smooth and characterful red is a must for the winter wine rack. Very easy to drink on its own but weighty enough to pair with sausage and mash or similar comfort food.

Vibrant red fruit and toasty oak, with an undercurrent of brooding spice. Its subtle structure provides just enough tannin from the Tannat grape to hold down the deep fruit core and an acidity that keeps this wine fresh and interesting all the way to the finish.

Caviste Rouge 2007

Alpha Zeta Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso 2007 Veneto, Italy

Bodegas del Jaro Sembro 2007 Ribera del Ruero, Spain

Our flagship house red is a perfect Rhône blend of Grenache, Carignan, Syrah and Cinsault, produced from gnarly old vines in the South of France. Dark and brooding with hints of ripe cherries, plums, herbs and garrigue.

Full, rich and ripe on the palate, with sweet vanilla, dark chocolate and a spicy cherry character, balanced by smooth, rounded tannins. Supple and long, with a twang of palate-cleansing acidity. Pair with grilled red meats and traditional pasta dishes.

Languedoc, France

Made from 100% low yielding Tempranillo vines, the Sembro is the estate’s entry level wine. Its dense, dark cherry and plum flavours, with hints of vanilla and cedar, will mellow and develop beautifully with decanting.

Available in wooden six bottle boxes

A wonderful blend of Cabernet and Shiraz, from one of the most exciting and passionate artisan wineries in Australia. Intoxicating and overt aromas of very ripe black fruits and Asian spices burst from the glass, whilst the sumptuous palate is beautifully soft and smooth.

Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux, France Forward cassis aromas mingle with cedarwood and tobacco on the bouquet. On the palate the wine exhibits a proud structure but with a core of ripe juicy berry fruit. Delightful.

HUNGERFORD 01488 684684

This really is stunning so good that we purchased the entire UK allocation. Heavenly aromas of berry fruits, spice and a touch of oak, very soft and smooth and wonderfully drinkable.

Old vine fruit, framed by fine tannins gives an intense, sweet nose of raspberry, cherry and spice, leading to a concentrated palate. This wine has excellent balance and purity, showing what can be coaxed from the region’s unique terroir.

Barossa Valley, Australia

Domaine Tollot-Beaut Chorey-LésBeaune 2006 Burgundy, France A superb wine from a consistently good, family-owned domaine, which practices organic viticulture. Soft, rounded aromas of oak and fresh red fruit are reiterated on the palate, with a clear and defined elegance which repays keeping.

Vallet Frères Gevrey Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1ER Cru 2000 Burgundy, France Seductive, aged Pinot Noir with touches of wood, strawberries, truffles and game. A stunning treat and the perfect match for Christmas Day lunch.

Niepoort Douro Valley, Portugal

HUNGERFORD 01488 684684

Fifth generation winemaker Dirk Niepoort is without doubt one of the most dynamic and influential producers within Portugal today, creating seriously good Ports that combine elegance and restraint with a refreshingly lighthearted approach. A man after our own hearts, we’ve been bowled over by what Dirk has achieved with this sublime range of Ports for all occasions.

Niepoort Tawny

Niepoort RubyDum

Niepoort TawnyDee

Niepoort LBV 2004

Niepoort Colheita 1998

To produce a fine balance and flavour, Niepoort Tawny is aged in oak casks for three to five years. Fresh, light and beautifully balanced, this marvellously quaffable Port has a shiny bright colour and soft, sweet tannins.

The first of a pair of sensational Ports - the Dum and Dee twins. RubyDum is a dark plum and damson fruit-driven beauty, incredibly soft and elegant with wonderful freshness. The perfect partner to a warm fire and bowl of walnuts.

The second of the twins, Tawny Dee is a delightful glass of dried fruits and candid orange, touches of caramel and hazelnuts and very long finish. Serve with rich chocolate dishes or a spoonful of Stilton.

Aged for four to six years in old oak casks in the cellars of Niepoort, which softens the dark fruits, mellows the acidity and adds a nutty, spicy note. This is still fruit dominated, but with touches of figs and Indian spice.

Colheitas are single vintage tawny ports, with a minimum aging in oak of seven years, although the tradition at Niepoort is to age for an extra few years prior to bottling. Nuts and dried figs, toffee and mocha, highly complex and wonderfully smooth.

Hunter Valley, Australia

Monbazillac, France

A luscious, richly concentrated wine, greengold in colour, with intense notes of honey and apricot marmalade, offset by a crisp and long lingering acidity. Enjoy on its own, or with most desserts and cheeses.

It’s only since machine picking was banned in 1990 that the wines of Monbazillac have begun to shed their reputation as the poor man’s Sauternes. This rich, golden beauty displays intense apricots, peach and honey aromas, with an unctuous mouth feel and lovely acidity.

Baron de Sigognac 10 year old Armagnac

Henry de Querville Fine Calvados

Cognac is widely regarded as the world’s best brandy and is certainly the most sought after. This VSOP from top independent family producer, Maxime Trijol, is mellow and rich on the palate, yet at the same time spicy, complex and warming.

Armagnac, France

Pays Auge, France

Full, fruity and rounded in the mouth with a perfect balance of weight. Floral, woody and spicy notes, with grilled almonds and vanilla on the palate, leading to an impossibly long finish. Exceptional.

Produced in Normandy’s finest region, Pays Auge, this remarkably good value Calvados has a distinctive character with aromas of fresh apples, cinnamon, vanilla oak and mixed spice. The rich harmony of flavours make this a perfect apéritif but will also complement fine cheeses and rich, buttery desserts.

The Thomas household will be all over the Bodegas del Jaro Sembro 2007 (£11.95) this Christmas, a stunning wine that I discovered on my last trip to Spain. Whilst the estate’s top end wines are quite sensational, it was this little beauty that I thought the most amazing value for money. Soft and juicy, with berry fruits and spice, it will work brilliantly with winter stews, game and cold meats on Boxing Day.

“The minute I first tried the Don Cristobal Verdelho 2009 (£7.95) I was totally hooked! It’s innovative, exciting, totally delicious and unbelievably good value for money. Whilst originating from Portugal, Verdelho shows brilliantly in Argentina and the combination of honeysuckle and clean, limey acidity makes it a highly popular choice for entertaining as it drinks perfectly on its own and everyone loves it!”

“I’m already looking forward to rounding off Christmas Day 2009 with a glass of delicious Baron de Sigognac 10 Year Old Armagnac (£35.25). I often find Armganac, with its slightly rustic, fruitier nuances, more interesting than Cognac. I’m anticipating a bewitching combination of prunes, raisins and lightly toasted nuts on the nose, along with a depth of caramel and candied peel on the palate and a long, slow, delightfully nutty finish.”

“During my visit to Champagne in June, Hervé Savès kindly welcomed me beyond decent visiting hours so that I could taste through his selection. The reserve wines that make up the Camille Savès Cuvée Prestige Bouzy Grand Cru NV (£27.95) are aged in oak barrels and do not undergo malolactic fermentation, resulting in a wine of great depth and richness, held together by a fine acidity and a gentle mousse. I simply adore this wine.”

“I am utterly powerless to resist the Alpha Zeta Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso 2007 (£9.95) - baby Amarone by another name and a singularly overlooked style that’s darn fiddly to make but simple to drink! Full-bodied, deeply mellow and ‘amaro’ (almondy), you should drink this with friends aside ye crackling log fire with a few toasted nuts, a slice of cheese and some dried fruit thrown in for good measure. Oh joy!”

“I don’t normally think of myself as having a sweet tooth, yet when Keith Tulloch presented me with his Keith Tulloch Botrytis Semillon 2006 (£12.95) on my recent visit to the Hunter Valley I was very pleasantly surprised. The skill and precision that has gone into this wine is conveyed through its elegance and superb depth of flavour. An astonishing dessert wine.”

“We all love a bargain, so it’s no wonder I’ve chosen Sliding Hills Pinot Noir 2007 (£12.95) from our Winter Collection. You can’t buy this incredible Marlborough Pinot anywhere else in the UK. Ripe berry fruit on the nose, followed by cherries, chocolate and spice Christmas in a glass, and guaranteed to warm your cockles. Or anything else you fancy!”

“I’ll be stocking up on the wonderfully delicate, unoaked white Burgundy, Macon-Prisse Les Clochettes (£9.95) this Christmas. It is a classic choice for entertaining as it’s both lovely as an apéritif, yet also matches so many dishes, making life just that little bit easier and more relaxing over the festive period!”
