Congratulations Marija! A big heartfelt congratulations to MaKami’s founder and CEO, Marija Pavkovic-Tovissi. On October 27 she was named one of Avenue Calgary’s Top 40 under 40.

Providing a welcoming community MaKami was proud to sponsor the Multi-Cultural Newcomer Family Fair. Organized by The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth (CBFY), the event had a fantastic turnout of over 500 people. For more than 25 years, the CBFY has been providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for immigrant and refugee youth and their families by enriching them with information, knowledge, and experience as they build a new life in Canada.
We’re glad we could be a part of the welcome party for these families.

Meet the Staff!

Between the massages and the visitors, the seniors loved the attention. For our students, it turned out to be just as much a social event as it was a learning opportunity. We hope to visit again soon!

A little pampering for our Gal Pals The attendees at the Edmonton Woman’s Show on Oct. 15 & 16 were more than happy to rest their feet and be treated to MaKami’s famous free massages! Our students were great! They really showed off their skills and their endurance working through that long line.

Meet Heather! Let’s welcome Heather, Edmonton’s new first year practical Teaching Assistant, who graduated from MaKami’s 3000-hour program in 2013, then immediately started her own home based practice, which she maintains to this day. “Owning my own business has given me the opportunity to control my schedule and fully participate in my son’s extra-curricular activities. This profession and the opportunity has been an immense blessing.” Heather is a single parent to a beautiful six-year old boy and enjoys spending time with him. She believes that hard work is the key and that what you put into your profession is exactly what you’ll get back.

Tag Team at CIBC Run for the Cure

Meet Alisha! Calgary campus is pleased to introduce their new Student Counsellor, Alisha! A psychology graduate of Mount Royal and the U of C, Alisha is excited to apply the strategies she’s learned from school and pass them on to our students at MaKami. “MaKami has such a great atmosphere. Everyone is friendly and helpful, which makes my work easier.” She hopes to build upon her career and maybe even open a private practice in the future. Her greatest challenge with her job is finding the balance between her work-life, homelife, and social-life.

Calgary MaKami students were on all fronts of the CIBC Run for the Cure in Calgary, October 2. Treating survivors and massaging supporters, we even had two students run the race! Great job team!

Alisha is the loving owner of an adorable Australian Shepherd named Evie. Evie has one blue eye and one brown eye. Welcome Alisha!
