Philippine Heritage Month In June, the Government of Alberta declared June Philippine Heritage Month. In response to the inspiration we felt at the Filipino Community Leaders conference, MaKami College was very proud to sponsor a $50,000 scholarship to be divided into increments from $1000 to $5000 to help Filipino Albertans move toward a new career in the Healthcare industry. To carry on the festivities, on June 9, MaKami Edmonton was onsite to celebrate the 120th Philippines Independence Day at Prairie Winds Park! What a great month!

Say ‘Hello’ to Maxine, a practical Learning Assistant at MaKami’s Edmonton campus. Although she’s only worked with MaKami for a couple months, Maxine is taking big strides in improving the learning environment for MaKami students, starting in the practical room. She takes pride in her work and hopes to shape the massage therapy industry from the ground up by helping the students grow to become successful massage therapists. In her downtime, Maxine loves running, cycling and hiking. But she also knows how to relax and have fun too: Maxine’s a big traveler, loves to cook and occasionally catches herself binge-watching Netflix. Welcome!

Hello Kayla! Meet Kayla, Calgary campus’ front desk receptionist! As a newer staff member, Kayla has already found her place at the college. “All the staff members are so happy and inviting! Walking into a new job is pretty nerve wracking, but everyone has made me feel at home.” Aside from MaKami, Kayla is a student herself and is heading back to Carleton University in Ottawa for her final year, but Calgary will always be her home. Kayla loves to be in nature either hiking, skiing, or riding horses, and when she’s not in nature, she’s exploring Calgary for new hot spots and hidden gems.
