Alexander Wang Two years after dropping out of Parsons School of Design Alexander Wang launched his eponymic label. In 2005, Alexander Wang introduced his label for the first time with six unisex looks. Later, in 2007, Alexander Wang evolved into a women’s brand when his first runway collection walked New York Fashion Week’s Autumn/Winter 2007 runway. Alexander Wang’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection consisted of strange pairings like mink fur coats and bra tops. The collection used bikini silhouettes paired with silk slip dresses and button down shirt fabrics. Cropped tops, bikini tops, and seriously short shorts ruled the runway with a twist of incorporating male and female trends, such as pinstripes and lace. Color themes for the Spring/Summer ‘17 collection included khaki, blues, florals, and black with neon details. 4

Brunello Cucinelli

8

Founded in 1978, Brunello Cucinelli began his own label with the aspiration to create a brand that can earn a profit without sacrificing mankind. It began by dying cashmere because at that time it was only available in natural colors. Later followed women’s trousers and a men’s collection. Today, Brunello Cucinelli is a “total look” brand for both men and women. Brunello Cucinelli’s Spring/Summer ’17 collection continued his “humanistic” approach to fashion with simple, yet luxurious looks, as always. The collection was modern and sensible with simple monochromatic white looks. Other colors included black, blue, and taupe with striped details. Metallic accessories and satin fabrics were also a key factor for Brunello Cucinelli’s Spring/Summer ’17 collection.

To me, the simplest things can have the highest value. -Brunello Cucinelli

Céline

Céline Vipiana established Céline in 1945 with her husband. The luxury designer began by selling children’s shoes. It didn’t take long for Céline to label her brand as luxury. In the 1950’s, she launched her first ready-to-wear collection and accessories. Céline became most prominent by innovative designs that were chic and modern. With creative direction by Phoebe Philo, Céline’s clothes continue to be easy to wear. In Céline’s Spring/Summer ’17 collection the models began walking in a cluster and all went their separate ways down the runway. The modern design of the brand continues for Spring 2017 in easy to wear designs that make everyday life modern with trouser suits and flowy skirts.

“Women realized that the Céline fashion was comfortable and practical.”

Elizabeth and James Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen founded Elizabeth and James in 2007. The twin designers’ main objective was to tell a story and create a relationship between a boy and girl. Elizabeth and James clothing meets masculinity within femininity in a modern minimalistic way. Elizabeth and James’ Spring 2017 collection blended masculinity with femininity through satin pantsuits and oversized trousers. The color palettes were just as minimal as the pieces with white, black, and creamy hues. Elizabeth and James’ Spring ’17 collection was understated. The designs were monochromatic and seasonless.

Fendi Edoardo and Adele Fendi started the House of Fendi in 1925. The Italian designer was first known for its handbag and fur, which were acknowledged for their craftsmanship. Later, the Fendi’s five daughters began working for the label and recruited French designer, Karl Lagerfeld, who is now creative director of the label. Lagerfeld has created an eccentric collection for Spring 2017. The collection mixed vertical stripes with lingerie silks, knitted sock booties, and flower embroidery. The pieces were “decade collaging” with pieces from different time periods that somehow all flowed together under Lagerfeld’s direction.

Louis Vuitton Louis Vuitton created the first flat trunk in 1854. Next, followed the first brick and mortar store in Paris, France. Louis Vuitton, as a label now under the direction of Nicolas Ghesquière, has continued handmade trunks, accessories, and ready-to-wear for the past 150 years. Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2017 show took place in their future flagship store, Place Vendôme, Paris. The large windows of the building were said to create a metaphor: “Louis Vuitton is as global as its reach,” according to Vogue. The collection included harsh cutouts that seemed experimental, but also feasible. The models were holding cellphones, showing that modern women can live without their bags, but not without their phone.

“…it is a woman who is talented at mixing clothes, more than having a single look.” -Nicolas Ghesquière

Public School Public School designers, Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne, created a street style menswear brand based out of New York. Their inspiration is said to be everything about New York City, where both designers were raised. Public School’s name evolved from the designers thinking about the different cliques in school and how each clique dressed and represented itself differently. Public School’s Spring 2017 collection played with the aesthetic exaggeration of proportions. It had oversized dresses and disproportioned trousers with gold button details. The duo designers used former city public school kids as their inspiration, incorporating a bit of humor in their looks.

Rag & Bone In 2002, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville founded Rag & Bone in New York. Rag & Bone was named after scavengers from the 19th century who collected rags, bones, and scraps of metal. The brand became reputable by combining British heritage with modern designs. Rag & Bone’s Spring/Summer ’17 runway included signatures, such as varsity jackets, oversized sweaters, and t-shirt dresses. Color themes of red, white, and blue walked the runway along dark monochromatic looks. Models strut down the runway in 90’s inspired florals, varsity jackets, and sporty sweatsuits.

Yeezy Yeezy is a collaboration between artist, Kanye West, and Adidas. They started with strictly sneakers and branched out to ready-to-wear with the first collection of ready-to-wear debuting in Fall 2015. The street style inspired ready-to-wear collection is for both men and women. Yeezy Season 4, Spring 2017, consisted of basic, mostly monochromatic looks. The pieces of the collection were timeless and simple with shearling coats and light parkas for spring. The color palette was different with extremes of light and dark; monochromatic pale tones and harsh dark tones.

3.1 Phillip Lim Phillip Lim established 3.1 Phillip Lim in 2005. 3.1 Phillip Lim has everyday basics with a twist. The designer makes pieces that are both youthful and elegant with a bit of a twist. 3.1 Phillip Lim’s Spring/Summer ’17 collection had a deserted beach at sunset theme. The collection showcased bra tops with a risqué, yet elegant and youthful, feel. The 2017 Spring collection felt like a modernized throw back of the ‘90s with floral prints and oversized pieces.

“3.1 is about clothes that refine instead of define. A refinement that’s a bit classic in attitude, but imparts a sense of individual style, without looking or feeling forced.” -Phillip Lim
