My name is Mitchell Koolhoven. Design student at Sintlucas! I’m 17 years old and I’m in my second year now. I was born in The Netherlands and I still live there. I study the design of products, interiors and media. I want to focus on illustration and interior design. I think the most important thing when you design something is the story behind it and the functionallity.

“Rustic modern restaurant In this project we had to design a restaurant for a specific target group that are disabled people. I chose for people that have PTSD. People that have PTSD are disabled because, they get traumatic flashbacks, no sleep and have problems with concentration. I focused on this target group because I think we need to spend more time on these target group. With this restaurant people with PTSD can work in peace and get social with people that have the same disorder. Not only the staff but also the costumers will know more about this disorder after visiting the restaurant. My restaurant has got a peaceful environment and is very comfortable and attractive.

Process: In the process of making this restaurant I first did some research. My conclusion after the research is that I want my restaurant to have a comfortable and attractive environment. After the research I made a mood board to show what kind of atmosphere I want my restaurant to have. I also made a material and color card with codes. With this information I created a floorplan of my restaurant with diffrent layouts. Finally I made the restaurant in Sketchup to visualise it.

13 “Food Truck In this project we had to design a Food Truck that will drive to diffrent festivals. The project was given by the company ZLTO. It is a company that supports farmers. Frooty is the name of the food truck that we have designed. It is a food truck that serves diffrent salads and smoothies. The company is all about eating more healthy food at festivals. There are of course healthy fastfood trucks at festivals but none of their food is enough for a dinner meal. Our foodtruck is the solution. You can drink smoothies in the afternoon or as a dessert and our salads are enough for a dinner meal. So from now on you can also choose for healthy food in the evening at festivals.

Process: In the process of making this truck I first did some research. My conclusion after the research is that there are not enough healthy options in the evening at festivals. After the Research I made a mood board to show what kind of atmosphere I want my food truck to have. I also made a color card with the codes. Then I made a logo and a pattern for on the picknick tables and bar seats. With this information I created a floorplan of my food truck. Finally I made the foodtruck in Sketchup to visualise it.

22 “Hema on the move In this project we had to design a Hema on the move for Eindhoven airport. The Hema on the move is a store for travellers that forget stuff on their way. There are always people that forget little things on their way to the airport. In this store you can buy things for your vacation that you forgot to bring with you. The store is devided in diffrent parts for the most common things you forget. In the store you can buy make-up, things for your health, clothing and it has a horeca part. The Hema on the move has also got a photo corner for people that forget to print photos or want to make a photo book. You can design this photo book in the plane and pick it up at the airport.

Process: In the process of making this Store I first did some research. My conclusion after the research is that the Hema is a store with a specific style. I also did research to stores in airports and decided that my target group will be people that forget things on their way. After the research I made a mood board to show what kind of style the Hema has. After this I made a color card with the codes and a material card. I also made a bord where you can put your faces in as an extra thing for in the store. With this information I created a floorplan for my store. Finally I made the Hema on the move in Sketchup to visualise it.

31 “Tony Chocolonely Tony Chocolonely is a Dutch chocolate brand. This brand is all about slave free chocolate. For this brand we had to make a stand that was going to set place on a exhibition. The stand’s shape is being diverted from the five most important pieces in the chocolate bar. The five pieces create the countries in Africa where the most cacoa comes from. The stand has got a bar and a round shape space for storage and for employees to eat. The color of the stand is based on the diffrent colors of the chocolate bars.

Process: In the process of making this stand I first did some research. My conclusion after the research is that Tony Chocolonely is a brand with a story. The story is about making chocolate slave free and it is important to carry forward this story in the stand. After the research I made a mood board to show what kind of style Tony Chocolonely has. I also made a color card with the codes and a material card. With this information I created a floorplan for my stand. Finally I made the Stand in Sketchup to visualise it.

“Waste In this project we had to design a visual identity for an exhibition called Waste. Waste is an exhibition with diffrent companies that support the environment. Waste is all about to not litter the nature.

Process: In the process of making this visual identity I first did some research. My conclusion after the research is that Waste is an exhibition that cares about the nature I decided to put my concept on the target group loitering. After the research I made a Logo and designed my visual identy around it. I also made a poster, app and promotion video. The logo represents mother nature. In the video you see her giving an advice through a message in a bottle. Saying to stop litter the nature.

AA Kids

“AA Kids AA Kids is a Dutch sport drink brand. AA kids is a new expansion on the AA drink product. AA Kids will be about a healthier version for kids. For this new expansion we had to make a visual identity. This identiy is only for kids and is all focused on this target group.

Process: In the process of making this visual identity I first did some research. My conclusion after the research is that children already drink AA but this is supposed to be for athletes. So there had to come a new expansion for kids so they could drink something without sugar because children don’t have to drink energy drink at this age. This drink is a milkshake without sugar and is supposed to be for sport at school and in spare time. After the research I made a logo and poster. Finally I made a label for the milkshake and a brandbook.

“Paper dress In this project we had to design a paper clothing piece or accessories for a catwalk on school with two other students. We had to design and make the dress in five hours and we had a limited size of paper that we could use.

Process: In the process of making this clothing piece we first looked for some inspiration. We decided to make a wedding dress. After five hours of work we made the wedding dress, a hair accessorie and a veil. Finally after five hours of work we had to walk on the catwalk.

“Valentine packaging” In this project we had to design a packaging for valentine’s day. The project was about making a packaging with a product. You had to choose the product by what you think is the most important thing on valentine’s day. The packaging will be displayed in a Valentine 2.0 store in a train station. It is called Valentine 2.0 because it doesn’t have cliché valentine products, so no red and no hearts.

Process: In the process of making this packaging I first did some research. My conclusion after the research is that the most important thing for me on valentine’s day is making memories. So where can I make the most memories with my valentine? This was one of my questions and the answer is by travelling so my product was a world map. On this map you could scratch the countries you already went to. After the research I first made a packaging template and designed the outside of it with stickers. The packaging is the shape of a suitcase and the display is the shape of a luggage storage. Finally I made a visualisation of the packaging and a display for in a store.

Light object

58

“Light object In this project we had to design a light object. You had to choose a style for your object and I chose Art nouveau. It is a very elegant and style with lots of organic shapes. My lightobject was created by the concept of growing to the light source normally the sun and in this case a glow bulb.

Process: In the process of making this lightobject I first did some research. My conclusion after the research to Art nouveau is that it is an elegant style with lots of organic shapes. It is a beautiful style, however organic shapes are very hard to make. So i choose to design a light object with a straight line as base but organic shapes at the top. In this project I learned a lot becuase of the diffrent materials. The bottom of the light object is a round shaped part made of wood and is milled so the edge is elegant. The middle part is an iron pipe so that the wire can go through this. The color of the bottom and middle part are copper, because it gives the light object an elegant look. The top part is made of plexiglass and is made by hand.
