THE JUNIOR WELFARE LEAGUE of HUNTINGTON’S

20th annual

wine soiree Saturday, June 5, 2010 Coindre Hall, Huntington, NY

The Junior Welfare League’s 2010 Wine Soiree

The Junior Welfare League’s 2010 Wine Soiree

from the president... Dear Friends of the Junior Welfare League, Welcome to the 20th Annual Wine Soiree! Every League member joins me in offering a sincere thank you to the businesses that so generously donated their food, beverages and time to tonight’s event and to the sponsors whose donations truly allow us to continue our 77-year tradition of philanthropy in Huntington. Their generosity has helped make this one of our most profitable events ever since each donation directly affects the number of children we can send to summer camp. By offsetting many of the costs associated with the Wine Soiree our sponsors and donating businesses have substantially increased our ability to give more back to the community. We could not be more grateful for their help. I hope you’ll keep this journal as a handy reference guide for making upcoming purchases or contracting services. Businesses that support our charitable cause strengthen our community as a whole and they deserve our support in return. I would like to extend my appreciation for your attendance and your ongoing support.  I ask you to reflect on your own good fortune and take comfort in the fact that should it ever change, there is an organization, unlike any other social agency, that you can turn to for immediate financial assistance. One hundred percent of the League’s proceeds from tonight’s event helps support our five programs: The Lift Fund, Holiday Charities, Backpacks for Success, our annual award and scholarship, and especially Camp for Kids, which receives the lion’s share of tonight’s profits. Signs all around Coindre Hall will introduce you to our programs. Please have a look at them as you enjoy the evening to know how important your support is to those in need right in our neighborhood. Special thanks to our chairpersons Patty Weber and Trish Rongo. I would also like to thank Maria Reilly and Melissa Marascuillo for their hard work on co-chairing the raffles, and Susan Broshek and Megan Butler for stepping up to the plate and providing a great support system. Kudos to Tanya Lee on another great journal design. Great job ladies! Every member has contributed to making a difference in the community. I am very proud to be counted in their company. With profound gratitude,  Julie LaBella President

about the honoree... Jeannine Libutti

Libutti Jewelers of Huntington Village has been serving generations lovers of fine jewelry in and around Huntington Village. Established in 1943 by Mario Libutti, Libutti Jewelers success can be credited to the craftsmanship and quality of their jewelry and the unsurpassed customer service and dedication of the Libutti family. She has traveled the world and studied the culture and jewelry of Italy. Jeannine’s generosity knows no bounds. She is widely recognized as a leading supporter of many local Huntington charities and fundraising efforts. Last year alone, Libutti’s graciously contributed to the Junior Welfare League of Huntington, Huntington Hospital, North Shore LIJ, the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, St. Patrick’s Church, Old First Church, The Huntington Foundation, Visiting Nurses Services, and a fundraiser that sent much-needed aid to Haiti, as well as to many other worthwhile causes. Please join us as we celebrate the philanthropic spirit that embodies Jeannine Libutti.

About our New Venue, Coindre Hall

The JWL is proud and extremely excited to host its 20th annual Wine Soiree in the newly restored and elegantly refurbished Coindre Hall. Built between 1906-1912 by pharmaceutical company owner George McKesson Brown and his wife Pearl, the 135 acre estate was originally known as West Neck Farm. The mansion was modeled after a chateau in the South of France. In 1939, Mr. Brown began selling off portions of the property and in 1939 the northeast 34 acres was sold to the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. They renamed the building Coindre Hall after the founder of their order and operated it as a boarding school for boys for the next 30 years. In 1972, Suffolk County acquired the building but neglected it until the Alliance for the Preservation of Coindre Hall was organized to preserve and protect the property. In 1995 the mansion was officially designated “The Museum of Long Island’s Gold Coast”. In 2009 Lessings, Inc. was named the exclusive caterer for the property and has since dedicated thousands of dollars to Coindre Hall’s restoration, returning it to its former glory. Artist rendering of Coindre Hall used on our promotional materials courtesy of Loary Gunn. Ms. Gunn served as the president of the Alliance for Preservation of Coindre Hall Park, the grass roots organization that was instrumental in saving Coindre Hall from development and preserving it as Suffolk County Parkland.

The Junior Welfare League’s 2010 Wine Soiree

year in review In September 2009, the Junior Welfare League spearheaded the Backpacks for Success program with the Town of Huntington to provide backpacks and school supplies to 192 children from families living below the poverty line. • In October, the JWL received a Proclamation at the Huntington Town Meeting for their contribution to the Backpacks for Success program. • In November, the JWL held their annual appeal with the Best Event You’ll Never Attend. • Our Poinsettia Sale was a success and helped us provide gift cards to families we helped in our Holiday Charities program. • December saw Holiday Charities requests in record numbers but the League was able to honor every single one with extraordinary help from friends and local businesses. • In March, Appliance World hosted Merchant Appreciation Night for the League, a great opportunity for local businesses to learn more about our organization. • In April our Annual Spring Luncheon & Boutique was held at the Huntington Country Club. The Health Care Fund Scholarship and our Youth In Philanthropy Award were presented to two very deserving women in our community. Tonight we gather for our 20th Annual Wine Soiree. As you mingle with friends and enjoy the beautiful scenery, please remember that the Junior Welfare League’s goal is to raise funds for our Camp for Kids program in particular, and also provide funding for our four other programs, the Lift Fund, Holiday Charities, Backpacks for Success, and our annual award and scholarship. Each year the needs within community grow. The Junior Welfare League of Huntington needs your support, now more than ever, to meet those needs. •

looking ahead

The 20th Annual Wine Soiree wraps up our calendar year and we all look forward to regrouping over the summer months. September promises to start an exciting new year as the JWL was named sole recipient of the Jim & Yvette Loughlin Charity Golf Outing on September 13, 2010. Please check the website often for updates to the following programs and initiatives. • Backpacks for Success • Membership Drive • Friend of the League • The Third Annual Jim & Yvette Loughlin Charity Golf Outing • The Best Event You’ll Never Attend • Holiday Charities • Merchant Appreciation Night • Spring Luncheon • 21st Annual Wine Soiree For more information, please email jrwelfareleague@yahoo.com or visit their website at www.jwlofhuntington.vpweb.com.
