Describe a bit about your time at MVC. My time at Valley was exceptional. I don’t think I would trade it for anything. I was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity and played on the golf team for one year. I also was a founding member of Student Government. My major in college (Public Administration) was also an amazing experience. The almost daily debates with my favorite teacher, Dr. Acay, will never be forgotten. How did MVC impact your life? The impact of MVC on my life is likely immeasurable. That is why I feel so strong about the need to repay the school for giving me so much. I have several lifelong friends I met at Valley, and I am lucky enough to be able to work with 3 of them in the next phase of life. Work has become more of a hobby thanks to what Missouri Valley has given me. Where are you at now? Today I am living in Edwardsville, Ill., working in our family business, Truck Centers, Inc. My sister and I are the third generation now in the business, so I get to work with my big sister, who has always been giving me orders, as well as my buddies from school. In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t get much better. Truck Centers is a full service Freightliner, Western Star, Ottawa, Fuso, Benson, Transcraft, Sprinter dealer with locations in Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. I am proud to be just one of roughly 630 people that make up this great company. Currently my responsibilities include overseeing our Fall 2016 | 36
Morton, Springfield, Eureka, Hudson, Decatur and soon to be Effingham, Ill., facilities. Additionally, I guide our sales team with technical assistance selling trucks and I handle a few key accounts directly. At what point in your lifetime did you choose to include MVC in your plans? I always wanted to be able to find a way to give back to school. I just needed to be presented the right situation. With my whole life insurance policy it was such a simple process to include MVC I just couldn’t pass it up. Life has so many ups and downs and twists and turns I just figured after my son, Justin II, was born it needed to happen! Describe the type of planned gift that you have established for Missouri Valley College. After my son was born my wife, Sarah, and I felt strongly we needed to have a plan in place to provide for him as well as her upon my passing. This led me to a whole new area that I never investigated before. That being said, I didn’t know or realize you can have a rider on one’s life insurance policy to go back to my alma mater. I felt this was/is a great way to pay back an institution that invested in me at a time in life when I’m pretty sure few would.
