lias Melly, graduated from Missouri Valley College in 2013, and is currently working his way toward his Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice. Elias originally came to Missouri Valley College on a track and field/cross country scholarship. While balancing school, athletics and work was challenging at times, he is thankful he was able to obtain his Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) to prepare him for higher degrees in the medical field. After graduating with a BSN, Elias went on to work for Fitzgibbon Hospital before taking a position with the University of Missouri Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit in December of 2013. In addition to his BSN, Elias is a Critical Care Registered Nurse and became a Stroke Certified Nurse. Three years after obtaining his degree from MVC, Elias decided he was ready to take his biggest step yet—pursuing a Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia degree at Missouri State University.
“The ability to advance in my education and become an advanced practicing nurse is very rewarding.” Elias is forever thankful to those professors at MVC who helped him obtain his BSN. “I cannot forget the MVC instructors that made my dreams possible—Tonya Eddy, Teresa Taylor, Carla Wade and my coach, John Pickens.” Elias continues to stay in touch with fellow MVC nursing alumni and classmates, along with the MVC Director of Nursing Peggy Van Dyke. Without the support of his wife, Edna, and their two daughters, Ella and Elia, Elias would not be able to devote his time to an advanced degree in the medical field.

Being a full-time student registered nurse anesthesia (SRNA) is very demanding of your time. Elias spends 10-12 hours per day studying including 5-6 hours per day in the classroom. But for Elias, it is worth it.
