LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

As we welcome the final month of 2025, I find myself reflecting on the many blessings this year has brought to the Missouri Athletic Club. December is a magical time at the MAC, when our Clubhouses sparkle with festive décor, and the air is filled with the joy and warmth of the holiday season. It is a time to gather with family, friends, and fellow members to celebrate our traditions, create lasting memories, and share in the camaraderie that makes this Club so special.

This month, the MAC comes to life with the sights, sounds, and spirit of the holidays. The calendar is filled with events sure to delight every member of the MAC family, from the Spirit of Giving Holiday Party hosted by the MAC Associates on Friday, Dec. 6, to the much-loved Breakfast with Santa on Saturdays, Dec. 7 and 14 Downtown, and the Family Brunch with Santa at West on Sundays, Dec. 7 and 14. These cherished events have once again sold out, a testament to their enduring popularity. Members may also look forward to celebrating athletic excellence at the 56th Jack Buck Sports Awards on Monday, Dec. 8, and gathering for festive Christmas Eve Dinners at both Clubhouses. Be sure to bring the children downtown to marvel at the elaborate train station display in the main lobby, a whimsical centerpiece that sparks imagination and holiday cheer. Each event embodies the warmth, joy, and sense of community that make the season at the MAC not only special, but truly magical.

The holiday season is also a time to celebrate generosity, gratitude, and community spirit. This year, the MAC takes a moment to honor the dedication and enthusiasm of our remarkable staff, whose hard work has brought meaningful improvements and successes to the Club throughout the year. Through the annual Employee Holiday Fund, members share their appreciation by providing well-deserved bonuses

to employees while also supporting the Club’s charitable initiatives. Our staff is deeply grateful for this thoughtful recognition. In 2025, a portion of the fund will once again benefit the Charitable Society for Children (CSC), reflecting the MAC’s enduring commitment to giving back and reminding us of all the joy and connection that defines this season.

As we close out 2025 and look ahead to the new year, we are filled with excitement for all that 2026 will bring to the Missouri Athletic Club. Strategic Planning will begin on Jan. 10, charting a course for continued growth and innovation. Members will enjoy several enhancements this season, including the unveiling of a new Bridal Suite and the completion of the Missouri Room in December. Looking ahead to 2026, the Art Lounge Bar, Sportsman’s Grill buffet, Third Floor renovation, and updates to the Downtown Lobby with a beautiful new fireplace are on the horizon.

Members may also anticipate the long-awaited refresh of the Stan Musial Grill, the continuation of the West Master Plan, and the spring opening of the MAC Clayton amenity. Each of these improvements is guided by the vision of our members, ensuring the MAC remains a vibrant, welcoming, and exceptional home for tradition, community, and unforgettable experiences.

From my family to yours, I wish each of you a joyful, peaceful, and memorable holiday season. I look forward to celebrating with you as we close out 2025 and welcome a bright new year.

Warm regards,

Michael J. Kozeny, President Missouri Athletic Club

LETTER FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER

The MAC and December seem to be made for each other! In preparing this article, the Downtown Christmas train display is underway, and the schedule is set to serve your family’s every holiday need. Please take a moment to review our full schedule of events to make the most of your MAC experience.

Membership at the MAC continues to progress at an impressive pace. As of the end of November, the MAC is at 2,725 members, an increase of 93 members from last year and, more notably, 197 over three years ago. Clayton is paving the way for this momentum, with an anticipated waitlist for the amenity ahead of its opening in spring 2026.

The next two months will feature two of the MAC’s marquis events. On Dec. 8, we will once again host the Jack Buck Awards. On Jan. 9, 2026, we will host the Hermann Trophy Awards featuring soccer legend Alexi Lalas, recognizing top collegiate male and female soccer athletes. Please be certain to secure your space on the MAC app.

I am also pleased to highlight the exciting news of the newly formed MAC Historic Foundation. Please take a moment to review Larry Absheer’s article in this issue of Cherry Diamond. This is a significant milestone for the MAC!

Behind the scenes of the day-to-day operations, a meaningful amount of work continues in support of an elevated member experience and numerous strategic

initiatives. The Board continues to refine and update its strategic plan, which serves as the long-term guide for the Club’s future. The master-planning process for the West Clubhouse is progressing, with an update anticipated at the start of 2026. The Board and the Planning Committee remain engaged with our planners, Peacock + Lewis, in refining the West Clubhouse plan and initiating the review of the Downtown Clubhouse.

Clayton is in full renovation mode as the team prepares an operating plan that delivers on expectations. Greg Gerber and Chef Bogdan are diligently addressing the details, including hiring and training of the MAC Clayton team. Additional projects include the forthcoming renovation of the Stan Musial Grille at West, the completion of the Bridal Suite at the Downtown Clubhouse, updates to the Crystal Room on the 3rd floor Downtown, and the addition of an exciting new Downtown amenity - the Art Lounge bar. As planning efforts continue, we will be certain to provide further insights to members.

On behalf of the entire team at the Missouri Athletic Club, we wish you and your families a memorable, healthy and joyous holiday season!

MIZZOU FOOTBALL HEAD COACH ELI DRINKWITZ RECEIVED THE 2024 SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR AWARD.
(L-R) LAST YEAR’S HERMANN TROPHY WINNERS MICHAEL ADEDOKUN (OHIO STATE) AND KATE FAASSE (NORTH CAROLINA).

MAC CLAYTON UPDATE

The enthusiasm for MAC Clayton continues as membership nears 700. This strong interest reinforces expectations that the Club will be at or near a waitlist by year’s end.

Construction efforts remain in full motion as preparations continue toward being fully operational in early 2026. Demolition is now well underway on both the 14th and 15th floors, an exciting milestone in bringing MAC Clayton to life. These floors are being cleared to make way for the kitchens, dining rooms, lounges and additional signature spaces that will shape the member experience. Pinnacle Construction continues to work closely with Hoffman Commercial Real Estate and HOK Design to maintain the schedule and ensure that every element reflects the MAC’s standards of excellence.

The MAC is also pleased to officially welcome Chef Bogdan Danila, who joined the team in early November to lead the MAC Clayton culinary program. He will spend the coming months at the Downtown and West locations as he becomes familiar with Club operations, teams and members. Please take a moment to say hello when you see him. Chef Bogdan’s experience, vision and leadership will be central to shaping a dining experience defined by excellence, creativity and warmth.

A PEEK INTO MAC CLAYTON

As shared last month, the design vision for MAC Clayton blends sophisticated, classic architecture with a modern, elegant aesthetic. The goal is to create a space that is both visually stunning and highly functional for members and employees.

Greg Gerber, Director of Operations for MAC Clayton, provides further insight into several key components currently in development:

Member Wine Gallery

The Member Wine Gallery will be one of MAC Clayton’s signature experiences. Envisioned as a glass-framed, wood-and-metal-racked, softly lit showcase, the gallery will offer members a beautiful place to store and enjoy their personal collections, an ideal enhancement to the dining experience throughout the Club.

Designed with precise temperature control and thoughtful display features, the gallery will highlight the artistry of each bottle while creating a shared sense of discovery. With space reserved for 50 members, each collection will have its own dedicated presence, ensuring an intimate and personal feel. Wine Gallery Members will be able to view their wines online, contact the service team ahead of reservations with decanting or chilling instructions, enjoy corkage-free à la carte dining and participate in intimate tastings and special programming curated by the service team.

Overall Enhancements

Across both floors, the guiding goal has been to enhance the sense of connection and comfort members expect from the MAC while introducing a renewed energy appropriate for the future.

On the 15th floor, reopening portions of the window lines will broaden the sightlines throughout the fine-dining room, bringing in natural brightness and a subtle sense of grandeur yet still preserving the intimate, timeless character that defines MAC dining.

On the 14th floor, the lounge is being reimagined to feel more open, social and seamlessly connected to the bar and surrounding dining areas, creating a lively flow that encourages gathering and conversation. This level will also introduce a comfortable co-working area with adjacent focus rooms and small meeting spaces, offering members enticing new ways to use the Club throughout the day.

Across both floors, elevated finishes, refined lighting and thoughtful material selections will bring a fresh elegance to the spaces, warm, welcoming and distinctly MAC, but with an undeniable sense of momentum.

WHAT’S NEXT

The focus remains on finalizing design decisions, tracking construction progress, and continuing to welcome additional prospective members. With Chef Bogdan now on board, staffing plans for MAC Clayton will move into the next stage.

As work continues with all partners, the MAC will share more refined timing updates as well as information about special events leading to the official opening.

THANK YOU

With the holidays approaching, it is hard not to imagine what this season will look like next year with MAC Clayton fully alive and decorated, joining Downtown and West in their festive splendor.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, heartfelt appreciation is extended to all who have contributed to this project. Special recognition goes to the Task Force, including Chip Misch, Greg Gerber, Pam Roth, President Mike Kozeny, Governor Mark Milton and especially Governor Chris Hermann, whose leadership and expertise in construction planning have been invaluable in safeguarding the MAC’s best interests.

And most importantly, thank you to all MAC members for the enthusiasm, support and belief in what MAC Clayton can and will become.

With gratitude,

Survey Says …

ENHANCEMENTS TO THE CHERRY DIAMOND ARE COMING

This summer, more than 500 members participated in the MAC Communications Survey. The thoughtful feedback shaped how Club stories will be told and how members will receive their news in 2026. Members asked for richer features, a more refined design, and a publication schedule that supports timely updates. In response, the Cherry Diamond will debut in an elevated format in the new year.

A STRONGER CHERRY DIAMOND

Beginning in 2026, the Cherry Diamond will shift to a printed bi-monthly publication cycle (January/February; March/April; May/June; July/August; September/October; November/December). In the alternate months, members will receive a digital-only edition, allowing for timely updates and expanded coverage throughout the year. This rhythm supports more intentional storytelling in print while enabling the MAC app and MAC in a Minute e-newsletter to deliver news and announcements between issues.

The magazine will also increase from 36 to 48 pages, creating space for longer features, more evergreen content, an expanded calendar section, and enhanced photography from Club events. Members will also notice a refreshed design with a polished, timeless aesthetic that reflects the pride and sophistication of MAC membership.

BUILT FROM MEMBER FEEDBACK

Members expressed a desire for stories that highlight fellow members, celebrate MAC traditions, and deepen the overall Club experience. The new Cherry Diamond reflects that direction, with a tone centered on member pride, lifestyle features, and meaningful Club enrichment.

Thank you to all who participated in the survey. Your input directly shaped these improvements and will guide the evolution of MAC communications in the year ahead.

Member Reminders

As winter break and weather-related school closures approach, here are a few important reminders to ensure an enjoyable experience for all members and guests.

1 ensure their children are always supervised and reminded of the Club’s guidelines.

Guest Policy – Guests must always accompany the member when on Club property. Guests are not allowed to visit the Club without a member present.

To-Go Ordering – Enjoy the convenience of Club dining anywhere by placing to-go orders through the MAC app at Menu > Food and Beverage > To-Go Ordering Be sure to specify a preferred pickup location. 2

Running & Safety – For the safety and comfort of all members, we kindly ask that children refrain from running inside the Clubhouse. Parents are requested to

Dress Code – At the West Clubhouse, athletic attire is permitted everywhere except the 1903 Dining Room, Bar, and Patio, where club casual is required. Club casual attire does not include hats; however, jeans are permitted so long as they are not frayed or ripped.

Holidays at the Club TRADITIONS

THAT SHINE THROUGH THE YEARS

Each December, the Missouri Athletic Club takes on a familiar kind of glow. Evergreen garlands dress the corridors, the silver and crystal in the dining rooms catch the light a little differently, and the lobby becomes a scene that feels both timeless and brand new. The towering Christmas tree, the gingerbread display, and the toy trains circling their sugary village all signal that the holiday season has arrived.

For more than 120 years, generations of St. Louis families have marked the close of the year at the MAC in the spirit of connection and tradition. The Cherry Diamond has captured these moments from the very beginning - ballroom dinners, children in their holiday best, and the annual visit from a certain guest in a red suit. Decor and fashion may have changed, but the feeling behind the season has remained the same: December at the MAC is meant to be shared.

Throughout the Club, the holiday spirit shows up in countless ways. Dining rooms fill with families spanning several generations. Friends gather for a final toast before the year concludes. Out-of-town guests settle into the historic Downtown Clubhouse for overnight stays, experiencing firsthand the warmth and hospitality that define the MAC.

On this year’s cover, Mr. and Mrs. Claus stand as joyful ambassadors of the season. Their presence, along with the glow of the tree and the scent of gingerbread in the lobby, captures the heart of what the holidays at the MAC have always been: a welcoming place where traditions endure, memories take root, and members feel at home for the holidays.

Some traditions have become inseparable from the holidays. Breakfast with Santa — and the newer events that have joined it — continues to create moments of wonder for the youngest members and a sense of nostalgia for those who remember attending decades ago. The gingerbread house and trains, now a beloved part of the season, invite members to pause for a moment, take it in, and smile.

COACH MAGGIE'S ADVICE

How to Stay on Track During the Holiday Season

The holiday season is a time of joy and celebration, but for those striving to maintain fitness goals, it can bring unique challenges. Between festive gatherings, sweet treats, and cozy comfort foods, it’s easy to lose focus. Staying on track doesn’t mean skipping the fun or feeling deprived. With the right mindset and a few thoughtful strategies, it’s possible to enjoy the holidays while keeping your progress intact. Remember, one day doesn’t define your journey; it’s the habits built along the way that matter most.

1. SET A PLAN

Before the celebrations begin, decide what matters most to you, perhaps a favorite holiday cocktail or a few Christmas cookies. A couple of indulgences won’t derail your goals if they remain occasional. Plan to enjoy treats in moderation, balance them with lighter meals, and drink extra water throughout the day. Make mindful choices rather than impulsive ones.

2. DON’T SKIP MEALS

Skipping meals to “save calories” often leads to overeating later. Instead, eat balanced meals with protein, fiber, and healthy fats throughout the day. A breakfast of scrambled eggs with vegetables or Greek yogurt with berries can help manage hunger and keep energy steady.

3. PRIORITIZE PROTEIN AND PRODUCE

Fill half your plate with vegetables and lean proteins such as roasted turkey, shrimp cocktail, or grilled salmon. Then, enjoy

smaller portions of rich favorites like stuffing or mashed potatoes. This approach keeps you satisfied and helps stabilize blood sugar levels.

4. WATCH THE DRINKS

Liquid calories can add up quickly, especially from festive cocktails and creamy liqueurs. Alternate alcoholic beverages with water or sparkling water with lime. Choose lighter options such as vodka, wine spritzers, or mocktails enhanced with club soda and cranberries.

5. STAY ACTIVE

Regular movement helps boost metabolism and offset extra holiday bites. If you can’t make it to the gym, fit in short bouts of activity, such as taking a morning walk, stretching between gatherings, or dancing during the celebrations.

6. PRACTICE THE 80/20 RULE

Perfection isn’t realistic during the holidays. Aim for healthy choices 80 percent of the time and enjoy favorite treats the remaining 20 percent. Space out indulgences by a few days to maintain balance without guilt.

7. KEEP YOUR “WHY” IN MIND

Remind yourself why your fitness journey began, whether to improve health, boost confidence, or increase energy. Staying connected to that motivation helps guide better decisions when temptation arises.

8. DON’T LET ONE MEAL DERAIL YOU

Overindulging occasionally is normal. What matters most is how you respond. Skip the guilt and refocus at your next meal. Consistency, not perfection, creates lasting results.

9. REFLECT AND RESET FOR THE NEW YEAR

As the year winds down, reflect on your progress. Celebrate accomplishments, big and small, and note lessons learned. Rather than waiting for Jan. 1 to make sweeping resolutions, continue building small, sustainable habits now.

10. START THE NEW YEAR STRONG

Avoid the “I’ll start after the holidays” mindset. Each day offers an opportunity to recommit. By maintaining consistency now, you’ll enter the new year with confidence and momentum, not in reset mode but already moving forward.
