lthough we are in the heart of winter, now is not the time to hibernate. There are too many great events to look forward to here at the MAC to stay cooped up at home. Leading the way is the Cherry Diamond Gala Dinner and Auction. There is a lot of excitement around the Club about this event. Many members have told me how much they are looking forward to this evening. If you have not had a chance to look at the amazing items our members have donated, I encourage you to go www.mac-stl.org and take a look. The event is fast approaching on Saturday, Feb. 5, and limited space remains, so make reservations now by calling 314- 539-4470. Enjoy a delicious dinner and bid on some unique auction items while supporting the important effort to raise funds to purchase new fitness equipment for both clubhouses and support our MAC Charities. With Valentine’s Day around the corner, make the MAC your destination for a memorable evening. The Valentine’s Ball at the Downtown Clubhouse is always a special night of dining and dancing. If you prefer a romantic dinner, the restaurants at both clubhouses will be serving special menus for Valentine’s Day. Also, keep in mind that you can stop by the pro shops or Downtown front desk to pick up some great Valentine’s gifts. While the MAC has a well-earned reputation for celebrating special occasions in style, remember to take advantage of the excellent dining opportunities that are available every day. Whether you are looking for a quick buffet lunch, an elegant dinner with your spouse or a business meeting with clients, the Club has the venue to serve

your needs. There is plenty of athletic action to look forward to in the coming months. Boxing is back! The Missouri Room was packed with fight fans in November, and the Club is preparing to host some of the top local amateur boxers again on March 11. Athletic has always been the middle name of the MAC. The Club has celebrated athletic excellence for more than a century. On March 5, some of our most distinguished athletes will be inducted into the MAC Athletic Hall of Fame. Congratulations to the HOF Class of 2011: Tim Engelmeyer, Jim Goessling, Carmelo Natoli, Ethan Oetter and the 1999 basketball team. On Feb. 26, make plans to attend a Club tradition that dates back to the 1930s, the annual Good Fellowship Day Party. Hosted by the Downtown Athletic Department, perhaps no event captures the spirit and camaraderie of the MAC like this event. Enjoy a day of food, fun and friendship on the fifth floor. Following athletic activities in the morning, the beer will be flowing and a delicious feast will be offered in the Sportsman’s Club. All of this fun is served up for free! The Club has several effective fitness classes to help you stay in shape and keep those New Year’s resolutions. Pages 14 and 15 of this month’s magazine spotlight some of the classes, including some unique new ones. Give one a try. Many improvements have been made to the women’s locker room at the Downtown Clubhouse and more will continue in the coming weeks. I encourage the ladies to check-out the exciting up-grades. The “Each One, Reach One”

membership recruiting program continues. Many members have already earned free dues through this year-long initiative, including Gary Gaertner Jr. who is highlighted on page 4. Gary was the first member to recruit three new members, and as a result, he has earned six months of free dues. You can start earning free dues too, just turn in your leads to the Membership Department. You will also notice on a bar graph on page 4 that tracks the monthly results of the Each One Reach One program. We will continue to share that information with you in the coming months. When we first launched the “Each One, Reach One” program back in the fall, I mentioned that the Club would host quarterly Town Hall meetings to provide updates regarding the membership state of the Club. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at MAC West. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. This is part of the Club’s ongoing effort to communicate about the state of the Club’s membership and to keep the focus on membership recruitment. Stay warm this winter and remain active -- see you at the Club!
