An Introduction to the Theater

DESIGN BRIEF

Experience theater through the eyes of an adventurous boy. “How Does the Show Go On? An Introduction to the Theater” features various interactive games and activities that is fun and educational for children and adults and comes from the perspective of Maverick, a fictional young boy who loves adventure and playing make believe. Visitors will join Maverick—Mav for short—as he journeys through three different divisions of a Broadway show: Front of House, Center Stage, and Backstage. Within each section are subdivisions that further explore each area through activities like lighting, scenic painting, chorus line, and much more. The look of the exhibit will be very playful yet classic, using iconic Broadway images of red stage curtains, dressing room lights, and scenes from famous Broadway plays. Graphics will include a palette of red and black with accents of blue, bold fonts to simulate the grandiosity of theater, and a children’s style font to appeal to the exhibit’s target audience. Signs will include Maverick’s image wearing different costumes and performing different actions to illustrate the activity in play.
