Mt. Iwate Overnight Backpack Hike

Iwate is truly a life changing experience! Join the adventure team from Outdoor Recreation as we challenge ourselves to overcome this monster of stone and soil. Experience backpacking in true Japanese fashion by overnighting in a primitive mountain hut. View the evening stars, cook what you carry, and feel the new day’s first ray of sunshine kiss your face on the summit of Mt. Iwate. This is a challenging activity and a mandatory briefing is required prior to the trip at the Outdoor Recreation Center. A guide, overnight accommodation and camping gear are included. N

Join Team Misawa as we head to Yagen for a good old fashioned campout. Tents, barbecue, games, onsen and swimming—this camping experience has it all. Mt. Kokomagatake Overnight Backpack

Saturday–Sunday, July 20–21 Saturday–Sunday, Sept. 21–22 Departs 6 a.m. $95 per person | $50 R4R price Ages 18+ Located in the Akita Prefecture, with spectacular views in all directions, this is an ideal first-time backpacking experience. You’ll hike from a station near the summit and make your way around the volcanic crater to a mountain hut that you will call home for the night. This trip includes a mountain guide, backpack, sleeping bag & pad and trek poles. A mandatory pre-trip briefing will be required at the Outdoor Recreation Center.

Mt. Himekami Hiking

Saturday, June 22 Departs 6 a.m. $45 per person | $35 R4R price Ages 16+ Join the Misawa adventure team as we travel to Mt. Himekami. This dominating landscape feature is located near Morioka City in the Iwate Prefecture of Japan. The route to the summit is approximately five kilometers round trip. The journey requires trekking over boulder-strewn and steep terrain, if you plan to see the summit. This hike includes a mountain guide, daypack (as needed) and trek poles. N

Stay cool with Team Misawa as we tour Northern Japan’s best swimming holes and waterfalls. Plunge into the refreshing water at the base of Akiu Falls, experience the refreshing mist of Nametsu falls, and relax while floating the crystal clear waters of the Momijigawa river. Amnon Falls Hike & Camp (overnight)

Saturday–Sunday, Aug. 31–Sept.1 Departs 7 a.m. $100 per person | $60 R4R price Ages 18+ Discover the World Heritage Site, Shirakami Forest. Experience the feeling of traveling back in time, as the Anmon Falls are tucked away in an area surrounded by steep rock walls and dense forest. The Anmon-no-Taki path is approximately a two hour hike that takes eager visitors from the camping area to all three majestic waterfalls. A tour guide, camping equipment, firewood, lanterns, coolers, ice, grills and charcoal are included. You bring the food and drinks and we provide the means to grill it.
