About us KARZEN & KARZEN d.o.o. is a private consulting company that started operating in April 2007. Since then, we have been working in the field of local and regional developmenbt, strategic and business planning, preparation and implementation of European Union-funded projects. We place special emphasis on the revitalization, management and branding of public spaces (placebranding), valorization and interpretation of cultural and natural heritage, and the development of integrated innovative tourism products. The company is also the founder of the SOCIAL INNOVATION LABORATORY (SIL), a nonprofit organisation that is active in mapping, promoting and providing support in creating social innovations (innovative solutions to socio-economic challenges) as well as influencing public policies in Croatia and the Southeastern Europe. So far, SIL has implemented several key projects in the field of social innovation, such as the FP7: SI-Drive project, Horizon 2020: Social Innovation Community project, INTERREG Danube: Excellence in ReSTI project and Erasmus +: SIKE project. Ex ante evaluation of the National Island Development Plan Provided an ex-ante evaluation of the National Island Development Plan for the period 2021-2027. Reconstruction of Osijek Fortress Conducted an evaluation of the Strategic and Action Plan of the Osijek Tvrdja (Fortress) 2015-2020. year and the development of the Strategic and Action Plan of the Osijek Tvrdja (Fortress) 2021-2027. This Strategy is a continuation of the revitalization efforts in the period 2015.-2020. when a total of ten projects worth 70 mil. EUR were revitalized or are in a process of revitalization. In cooperation with partners, the Croatian Association of Cultural Tourism (CroCultour) and expert Marko Baus, we lead the process of mapping the situation, the current offer and the development of innovative tourist products as a basis for creating a brand of the Virovitica-Podravina County. Client: Virovitica-Podravina County Development of the Tourism Strategy of the City of Ivanic-Grad and the concept of the thematic scientific-educational center and Museum at the site "Petica", Ivanic-Grad. In cooperation with the Tourism Association of the Ivanic-Grad and the City of Ivanic-Grad, we have developed the Tourism Strategy and the Action plan through an interactive process of stakeholder participation (on-line survey, workshops, interviews etc.) Client: City of Ivanic-Grad. Development of a Regional / European cultural and tourist route of Austro-Hungarian fortifications. In cooperation with PENEZIĆ & ROGINA ARCHITECTS and the Department of Culture of the Istria County, we have led the process of assessing the state of the system of Pula Austri-Hungarian fortifications (a total of 23) and prepared a comprehensive study with proposals for innovative solutions for spatial and functional improvements and new tourism products. Development and implementation of the "Communication program within the Urban and spatial plan” for historical part of the city of Karlovac “Zvijezda” Led the process of preparing and implementing the Communication Program for the presentation of the Urban Plan of Karlovac "Zvijezda" with the aim of revitalizing and 6


reviving this historicač part of the city of Karlovac. The process included the development and implementation of a series of workshops, meetings, public presentations and presentation of the results of the workshops to the public through media, social media, public events etc. Client: City of Karlovac. Client: Municipality of Omisalj EU: HERA Adriatic project Led a working group for Cultural Heritage within the HERA Adriatic project funded by the IPA Adriatic program, which nclude 19 partners from the Adriatic region. We conducted activities aimed at assessing the state of cultural heritage in the Adriatic region, drafting a joint action plan, drafting cultural tourism routes and drafting standard specifications for the assessment and award of the HERA trademark. Client: Split-Dalmatia County / Zadar County Total budget value: 6,000,000 EUR. Developed the Strategy and Action Plan for the Reconstruction of the Osijek Tvrdja (Fortress) cooperation with the Agency for Renewal of Osijek Tvrdja, the City of Osijek and other key stakeholders. As a result of the Strategic and Action Plan and the preparation of project and technical documentation, V. Lisinski Square and the educational-tourist and cultural center "Old Bakery" were renovated, the infrastructure of the Fortress is being renovated, and five other buildings for which construction permit was approved. The value of the investment for the reconstruction of the Fortress is over EUR 70 million. Developed the Strategic and Action plan in cooperation with the Municipality of Omisalj and the working group. The process included data collection based on participatory methodology (focus groups, surveys, individual interviews), implementation of socioeconomic analysis (general and sectoral), definition of framework elements of the Strategy (vision, mission, strategic goals, priorities, measures, activities) and development action plan with priority projects. The PUR was rated by independent evaluators as the best example in the Republic of Croatia. Client: Municipality of Omisalj Technology park Vinkovci Elaboration of the project for the development of the public business infrastructure "Technology Park Vinkovci" with a goal to develop the construction of a technology center. Client: Vukovar-Srijem County Indicative value of the project: 2,000,000 EUR. Reconstruction of the old Turkish road in Osijek-Baranja County Development of the project for public tourist / cultural infrastructure "Reconstruction of the old Turkish road in Osijek-Baranja County" with a goal to revitalise the Turkish road starting from Beli Manastir, in the direction of the east along the ridge of Baranja kosa and ending near Batina. The road has a total length of 22 km, of which about 6 km is paved. The project also planned to reconstruct the historic building from the time of Maria Theresa. Implementation of the European Commission project "Regional Socio-Economic Development Program, Component 2" for organizational development and capacity building of regional development agencies in Central and Southeast Serbia, project preparation, strategic planning and participation in preparation for NUTS II development of the region. http://www.rsedp2serbia.eu/. In cooperation with regional development agencies in Kragujevac, Kraljevo and Nis, a participatory process of drafting the Strategic and Action Plan was organized and implemented through 30 workshops for over 300 participants from local governments, civil society organizations, support institutions, cultural institutions and agencies. Client: WYG International LTD. Development of a transnational EU project for the International Red Cross We provided technical assistance in the preparation of the IPA International Red Cross project multi-beneficiary fund for the Western Balkans-human rights education program for schools throughout the region. Client: International Red Cross Indicative value of the project: 10,000,000 EUR UNDP - preparation of a transnational project for EU funds: "Via Dinarica" Provided technical assistance in the preparation of the "Via Dinarica" project. The main goal of the project is to strengthen the management of natural resources in Southeast Europe. Clients: UNDP offices in Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
