Meet Jayne! Choosing a new bra isn’t as simple as it first appears. Over the years our bodies change – after childbirth, when our weight goes up and down, during the menopause. Ideally, we should have our bra fitted every 6 months. But I’ve struggled over the years to find somewhere where I felt comfortable going for a bra fitting and that led to a gem of an idea which has grown over the years. And that was to open a bra shop which offered a comfortable and private environment with people who had experienced the same issues as you may be facing now. So, after undergoing professional training I opened Jayne’s Bespoke Lingerie, which does what it says on the tin. Our bras are bespoke, for people who struggle with buying a bra ‘off the shelf’. You may have a larger bosom or perhaps you are a smaller lady, either way, we will find you something to enhance your curves and make you feel a million dollars!

I offer a free fitting service. You can pop into the shop you don’t need an appointment. If you prefer a more private fitting you can book an appointment. Having a bra fitting can make a huge difference to your appearance and give you confidence! Many women have never had a bra fitting and have been wearing the wrong sized bras for years. They are missing out on so much, a well-fitted bra can improve your appearance and more importantly have health benefits. A well-fitted bra can improve your posture and alleviate symptoms caused by an ill-fitting bra such as pains in your back or shoulders.

What happens at my appointment? One to One consultation Many women are nervous the first time they have a fitting and don’t know what to expect. There’s no reason to be nervous we provide personal fitting rooms and cosy dressing gowns to preserve your modesty. We only need to measure your under band, the rest of the fit is by visually assessing your body shape and where your breast tissue is on your body. We prefer you to wear a bra as it lifts your breast tissue into the correct place, and we can give you your site from that assessment. Don’t

worry if the bra you are wearing doesn’t fit properly, we can see past that. We’ll then bring you some new bras to try on, adjusting the straps until we get the fit just right.

Lots of new styles and colours to try This is the most exciting point in the fitting where you can explore styles and colours which really enhance your shape and, in some instances take pounds off! Gone are the days of unflattering bras that your mother used to wear or ill- fitting supermarket buys, welcome to a new world of confidence where you are proud to take off your clothes and explore the new styles and colours on offer.

Many of us will splash out on that special outfit and wear ill-fitting underwear. Your underwear really is the foundation of your outfit and should be your main priority. A well-fitting bra can improve your appearance and confidence, with and without your outfit!

“I have hearing aids. Why can I still not hear in noisy places?” This is a common question in my postbag. Hearing aids come in different shapes and sizes, but most importantly they come in different technology levels. The NHS provide good quality, basic hearing aids. However there are one or two levels above them that you should know about if you’re still struggling in groups or noise.

Meet Sally Jackson BSc (Hons) Audiology, RHAD MSHAA

Hearing Care The Way it Should Be • Central Brighouse clinic • Home visits available • Hearing assessments and advice • Tinnitus management • No call centres - Direct, expert help from the same audiologist, every time • Personalised advice and care to get your hearing your best

Located at Dermace Academy, Brighouse

Basic hearing aids amplify to your specific hearing loss, but they do so indiscriminately. This means all voices close by, and all background noise of a certain level is amplified equally. They don’t (and cannot) help you to distinguish one voice among many. This is why people with basic hearing aids will say ‘I can hear better without them’ in challenging situations. But not all hearing aids are the same. All hearing aids are digital and have been for 10+ years. That is standard across NHS and private markets. But the more advanced technology available privately is capable of using an array of directional microphones and onboard processing to reduce unwanted background noise relative to the speaker in front of you. The most advanced are capable of pivoting their focus areas to track a speaker, even in background noise.

Home visits are available, but I also operate from this light, bright and welcoming clinical space.

Hearing and Tinnitus Care

Sally Jackson

It’s more subtle than you might think, but the upshot is you don’t struggle as much to keep track of a conversation,

and you don’t need to avoid places with background noise. Background noise (or wind noise) is more comfortable, less intrusive. You’re less tired and frustrated at the end of the occasion. Bearing in mind that background noise is present whenever we step out of the front door (and even at home when we have more than a couple of people to visit), and you’ll see why this technology is needed. Hearing and Tinnitus Care is based at a clinic in central Brighouse, and covers Mirfield via home visits for those who need them. I am Sally Jackson, an audiologist and registered hearing aid dispenser who has needed hearing aids myself since my mid 20’s. I started training as an audiologist in 2014, and after time in the NHS and high street chains, I began my own company,

as I wanted to do hearing care better. I can offer the technology you need to improve your life, but I also offer a better standard of service, because without great service the hearing aids will never work at their best. I offer advice openly, and give every customer, every appointment, the time necessary to get the optimum hearing result. Last but not least, I also specialise in tinnitus, specifically how to habituate to tinnitus. This is a service I offer at no extra charge to my hearing care customers. The company line is Hearing Care The Way It Should Be, and I am proud to be entering my third year of business doing just that. If you have been let down in the past, please let me show you how it should be.

SIMPSON DENNIS ROOFING SERVICES Simpson Dennis is a family run business located in Mirfield. Customer satisfaction is the key to their success and many contracts are the result of word-of-mouth recommendation from many satisfied customers, who have been delighted with the prompt service, attention to detail and high standard of work that they have received from this firm. Their reputation has been built on strong foundations. Dennis has worked on major contracts around the country including restaurants for the Little Chef Chain, before starting his own business in Mirfield, 30 years ago. Simpson Dennis are approved by many leading insurance companies across the country, to not only carry out work on their behalf for insurance claims, but also to inspect new claims and produce a full report on their findings – a testimonial in itself to their excellent workmanship. “When searching for a roofer, people are often searching for the most competitive price, and when costs are under quoted for the job, you are often compensating in other areas such as quality of materials, service, time taken on the job and the

after care service. In my 30 years in business I have seen many companies come and go meaning that there is no aftercare provided and no guarantee on the work carried out” quotes Dennis. “It is a real shame when someone has made a long term investment such as this to their home; they find that when a problem arises, the firm they have used is nowhere to be seen. The old saying of “Pay Cheap, Pay Twice” unfortunately does mean just that when it comes to these things”. Simpson Dennis is quick to dissociate themselves from businesses like this and have often been called to fix problems for customers when the firm they have used originally have gone out of business. They cover a whole range of roofing services from small roof repairs, lead and chimney work, guttering and pointing, to large re-roofing contracts for the domestic market and only use the highest quality of materials. They are qualified and insured, which gives you the peace of mind needed, that they will carry out all work to a very high standard and can fulfil their guarantees.

Return of The Mirfield Show! It was back in August 2019 when we had our last Mirfield Agricultural Show. Little did we know what was in store for us in the coming months and years! Along the way we have kept the Mirfield Show alive through virtual competitions but now, at last, it is time to do it for real! Show Chairman Jonathan Evens says “It’s been a very tough couple of years for everyone, and some lives have been changed forever.

But we in the committee are focusing our minds and attention on putting on a great Show for you on Sunday 21st August.” We will have many of the usual, much-loved attractions for you including the live music stage, Pinxton puppet show, soft play area for little ones, chicks hatching in the marquee, and much more.

Win a pair of tickets for Mirfield Show! Q: What are the Four main residences of the Queen? Q: How many Prime Ministers have served under the Queen? We have 5 pairs of tickets to give away to 5 lucky readers! Please send your answers to the questions above via email to Winners will be drawn at random and contacted via email

In this special Royal Year, the main theme of the show is, of course, the Jubilee. There will be a jubilee flavour across the show, including many of the competitions.

Ramsden’s Butchers in the town centre. There will be a packed “high street” of stalls for those who like a bit of retail therapy and, of course, there will be a range of food vans to tempt all tastes. In the Made in Yorkshire craft tent there will be a pot throwing demonstration. In the Kids Zone there will be a bungee trampoline, circus skills and a ride on train.

The main marquee will be displaying the competition entries with classes for children and adults in handicraft, baking, flowers, and vegetables. Other competitions elsewhere on the field will be the Fun Dog Show, Horse and Pony Show and Baby Show.

The main ring will once again be hosting our featured attractions. This will start with the horse and pony show competition. The Stannage Stunt team will be performing stunts with motorcycles. They have appeared at the Show before and proved very popular.

The schedules and rules of entry for all the competitions can be found on our website and they can also be picked up at

The Rockwood Harriers will be bringing their hound pack for a display in the main ring. Also performing will be our local dance troupes – Sutton School of performing arts

and Katie Philpott school of dance. There will be a special “End of the Show Show” for all to join in at the close. Show Chairman Jonathan says “It takes a lot of dedicated people to put on the show. It can be hard work – especially on the day. But it is immensely rewarding watching people

enjoy themselves. We are always looking out for volunteers to become committee members or just to volunteer on show weekend. If you think that you would like to be part of our Show, please visit and follow the link to volunteer.” Tickets are available in advance via the website and at selected shops and are priced at £6. These will be available until midday the day before the show and up to midnight online. You can pay on the day for £10. And remember, as always, children under 16 accompanied by an adult are FREE!

Roberttown in Bloom This year Roberttown in Bloom will finally realise it’s dream, when the judges from Yorkshire in Bloom arrive in mid-July to judge their entry into the Large Village category of the awards. As part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s 50 year old Britain in Bloom campaign, Yorkshire in Bloom attracts many local groups who have come together to form lots of ‘bloom’ groups across the region, in their quest to win the coveted gold award status. Back in 2019, a small group of Roberttown residents met at the beginning of Autumn with the idea to form Roberttown in Bloom. Ideas started to flood in, and after a consultation with the Roberttown Residents group and

Yorkshire in Bloom coordinators, the group was keen to get started. Then, in February 2020, disaster struck.. COVID 19 was to put a stop to the Yorkshire in Bloom campaign. But that wasn’t going to stop the team from carrying on in a safe, and determined compromise to bring some colour into the village. After a Ceilidh fundraiser, some generous donations and planter sponsorships, slowly the village started to transform into a kaleidoscope of

colour. Throughout the first lockdown, villagers, passers by and local businesses who were able to open were given a real boost as the flowers started to bloom. A real sense of civic pride and joy had been achieved in spite of such testing times.

practices, recycling, and tackling litter and graffiti are high on the agenda. The group meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 PM for an hour’s weeding, feeding, dead heading and general tidying. Everyone is welcome to join in.

Further fundraising and donations meant that all year round planting could be done with the addition of winter flowers and spring bulbs. With the arrival of the beautiful cart opposite the church, the pyramids and railing planters, the village was starting to look really smart.

Thank you to everyone who supports Roberttown in

Bloom, and we hope you enjoy the summer blooms as you pass through our lovely village as much as we do. From all at Roberttown in Bloom

With 2022 judging now only a matter of weeks away, new displays have been put together, with more work to do to give the judges the real “Bobtown Wow Factor”. Embracing environmental good

Although the awards still couldn’t go ahead in 2021, the Roberttown in Bloom team carried on building more displays, engaging with other groups, businesses, schools and preschools from the village, businesses and local supporters. The knitting group from the Roberttown and District WI quickly joined in with their “yarn bombing” of the village centre with their wonderful 76

New Mayor Of Kirklees Masood Ahmed Pays Emotional Tribute To His Parents As He Becomes District’s First Citizen A respected and long-serving councillor paid an emotional tribute to his 92-year-old father and his late mother as he was elected Mayor of Kirklees. At a ceremony in Huddersfield Town Hall Clr Masood Ahmed, 54, spoke of his pride at becoming the district’s first citizen. Former youth worker Clr Ahmed, a Labour councillor who has represented Dewsbury South for 16 years, described the mayoralty as an “honour and a privilege.” Speaking at the mayor-making

and watched by his father Abdul and family and friends, Clr Ahmed said: “This is a very special day for me and my family. A day I never imagined. “A local boy, born in Dewsbury & District Hospital from a poor, migrant family becoming the first citizen of Kirklees. I owe my parents everything. “My father came to the UK in the early 1950s as an economic migrant leaving behind his own family to help build our great country after the Second World War. “Along with 21 others he lived in a single terraced house

when he worked at Wormald & Walker’s blanket mill in Dewsbury working double shifts to provide for his young family. My dad is 92 years old and he is at the back of the hall. I love you, dad. “While my father was working, me and my four brothers were raised by my beloved mother who passed away in 1995. She taught us the value of family, community, faith. I am the man I am today because of my mother. “My parents instilled in me the virtues of being a voice for the voiceless, being an advocate for the meek, being

a representative for the forgotten.” Clr Ahmed, who will be joined by his daughter Iram as his mayoress, has chosen the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Huddersfield as his charity for the year. He said: “Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice is very close to my heart. As a parent who has lost two children I can personally relate to the fantastic work they do at a time families are going through a terrible tragedy. “Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice supports children with life-shortening conditions and their families in West Yorkshire. “They are here for any family confronted with the news their child has a life-shortening condition. They help families make the most of every moment they have together. I would urge you all to support the mayor’s charity so we can support families when they need it the most.” Clr Ahmed said he wanted to champion all charities during the year and added: “Kirklees families, communities, charities and businesses went through a very difficult time during the pandemic. “We are slowly coming out of the pandemic and we still need to be cautious but the road is becoming clearer and safer. “As the mayor I want to reach out and visit as many families, communities, charities and businesses as possible to let them know we are here for them and to support them in getting back to normal, whatever the new normal is.”

Clr Ahmed replaced former Holme Valley South Tory councillor Nigel Patrick as mayor. Mr Patrick retired from the council after 20 years. Speaking about his year as mayor impacted by the pandemic Mr Patrick said: “It was no ordinary year. It was difficult yet fulfilling and I am a richer person for the experience.” Mr Patrick revealed that his charity appeal over the year had raised £30,000 for Holme Valley Mountain Rescue. Deputy Mayor for 202223 will be Lindley Lib Dem councillor Cahal Burke, who

was proposed by his friend and fellow Lindley councillor Anthony Smith. Clr Smith described his colleague as a “people’s champion and pillar of the community.” He said Clr Burke was an “outstanding” councillor who was the “epitome of someone who aspires to public office for all the right reasons.” Clr Burke paid tribute to the outgoing mayor and congratulated Clr Ahmed and added: “I look forward to supporting you in the year ahead and carrying out the duties to the best of my ability.”

Mirfield Junior Football Club Hello, we are MJFC and we are a new and exciting junior football club which has just been established for the 2022/23 season We as a committee learnt that nearly 200 children were sat on football club waiting lists in our area and decided that our time and dedication would be spent getting these children into the field playing football, making new friends, and having fun. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity and support of local businesses in getting the Club up and running financially by sponsoring our website, football kits and pitch side banners, without these sponsors we wouldn’t be able to start so thank you to Newlay Concrete, Newlay Asphalt, Newlay Readymix, The Children’s Family Trust, Yorkshire Industrial Tyres, Nightsafe Glass, A Mind

Great Pictures Of Huddersfield Town Fans At The Town’s Big London Sporting Weekend It was a big weekend in London for fans of Huddersfield Town and Huddersfield Giants. Sadly, the results didn’t go the way we wanted them to but while there was much at stake in the capital, both teams can be proud of their achievements in reaching their respective finals. The Giants were edged out by Wigan Warriors in the Challenge Cup final at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday but gave it everything they’d got and can use their performance as a springboard to more success. Town’s season ultimately ended in disappointment after two controversial penalty decisions went against them against Nottingham Forest in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Sunday. Once the dust – and the emotions – have settled players and fans alike will realise it was a great season for Town and a season which not even the most ardent of supporters expected to end at Wembley Stadium. The results apart, this was a great sporting weekend for the town of Huddersfield and here are some of photographs which sum up a memorable weekend in London for Town and Giants fans.
