Facts about our trees eTwinning project: Tree Detectives Across Europe

This is how we prepared our presentation about the trees we will observe in Lesaka: The teacher created an example of a presentation about a tree species using Google Slides. A copy of that presentation was shared via Google Classroom with each student, so they could use it as a template to create their own presentation. The students were asked to search for copyright free images in Photos for Class or using the built-in search function in Google Slides. When all presentations were finished, the teacher compiled them in this presentation.

Common ash


1. Description Fraxinus excelsior: (eu) Lizar arrunta, (es) Fresno de Bizkaia, (en) Common ash, (fr) FrĂŞne commun. Up to 40m high. It flowers in March-April-Mai. It fruit is called ash keys, some keys stay on the tree when the lives have fallen Its wood is used to do, toys and wooden spoons It leaves fall on October or November


2. Origin and habitat The common ash it grows on the south Europe. In the Basque Country is on the northern part of Navarre


3 . Distribution It grows on the edge of the houses, farms or roads. Is on the centre of navarre and the north of navarre.


Hornbeam Hornbeam


1. Description 1. Cientific name: Carpinus betulus L. 2. Up to 15 and 20 metres high. 3. Oval leaves, 5 to 8 cm long by 3 to 4 cm wide, dark green on the beam and a little lighter on the reverse. 4. The flowers 3,5 to 6 cm in March. 5. Their fruits called winged fruits become on autumn. 6. This wood is not used


2. Origin and habitat. 1. In its natural state, the hornbeam lives on the edges of forests and roads. 2. Forming part of the hedges and edges of forest.


3. Distribution 1. In Iruña can you see in gardens of Taconera and some streets of Iruña, like Monasterio de Irache and pío XXI 2. Can you see these tree in center and south of Europe and Asia.

1. Description Malus sylvestris; Sagarmina (eu), Manzano silvestre (es), Apple tree (en), Pommier (fr) Up to 2-10 metres high. Oval leaves. White and pink flowers; it flowers in March/April


2. Origin and habitat It’s a native species in Europe and Asia. It grows in any metres in altitude


3. Distribution It grows everywhere in Europe.

1. Description Quercus robur; haritza(eu), roble(es), pendunculate oak(en),chene pedonculè(fr) Up to 20 metres high Leaves with a long shape and green Green and yellow flowers The fruits are acorns and also the cork


2. Origin and habitat It’s native of navarre It grows below 500 metres in altitude It prefers humidity air,but not in the soil


3. Distribution In navarre, it grows in wet mountains and Pirineos.

1. Description Prunus cerasifera ; Gerezi-Aranondoa(eu), Ciruelo japonĂŠs (es),Cherry plum(en),Prunus cerasifera (fr) Up to 5-6 metres high Round leaves with purple colour Pink or white small flowers; it flowers in february and march. Nutty fruits that become ripe in autumn.

Description Corylus avellana; hurritza (eu), avellano (es), hazel (en), noisetier (fr) 5-10 metres high Oval leaves with slightly hairs, glossy and dark green Green hanging flowers; it flowers in March Hazelnuts fruits that become ripe in september Its wood is used to make chopping blocks and charcoal.


2. Origin and habitat It’s a native species in Europe . It requires a lot of humidity in the air, but not in the soil. It grows well on any soil.


3. Distribution In the Iberian Peninsula it is mainly found in the northern half. It grows in the mountain at ravines, boundaries, hedges... It grows in all Europe in humid places.
