My works wonder various interfaces occurring around us in our daily lives. New Design Method, New Definition and New Approach through creating and experimenting different physical-virtual integrated platform based on creative design process.


Ongoing: About the future servicescape with an advance of AI Designing Ethics for an Uncertain Future

AI and its related technologies will change everything . Along with that it would also change interactions and interfaces, which can be expected to enhance behavior-driven experience. Eventually, it will unlock the AI opportunity generating new service value in our daily life. Furthermore, with an appearance of an autonomous car and an advanced ICT, location-based service(LBS) market could be expanded to indoors. Eventually, combining AI and expanded LBS would enable human activities to generate new kind of value. Hence, my mission is about providing experience producing energy and sharing a value for the society with daily activities in your life borrowed by circular economy model. Your every single movement will have greater value! I consider to design physical product by using Tribo-electronic which could change kinetic energy to electric energy. Beyond that, it can allow every human activities to have greater value by producing electronic energy. Borrowed Idea from Museum: Low technology: Radio signal based on user interview BREESE is a low cost radio communication device that can be given to elderly patients by their GP w hen loneliness is suspected. Users are able to connect with others in their local area without the fear t hat comes with leaving the home. Our team got an insight via user interview and research that 41% of over 65‘s say that they feel cut off from society and 1.2 million people are chronically lonely. L oneliness is as harmful as smoking 15 cigarettes a day and doubles the chances to get Alzheimer. M any organisations offer different approaches to target loneliness, but our research showed that people who use these services are not lonely. New attendees are seldom. Technology-driven research Aerocene is a manifests as a series of air fuelled sculptures that will achieve the longest, emission-free journey around the world: becoming buoyant only by the heat of the Sun and infrared radiation from the surface of Earth. This hack looked at using a piezoelectric transducer to convert movement of the Aerocene Explorer tether into electricity. This could be used to pow er LED’s on the Explorer's surface, visualising the power of the wind, or other low energy compo nents of the hardware payload. At the Aerocene Hack, I proposed a power generation system by vibration by wind and it can make a energy to turn on LED as an advertisement, message and art. Understanding a principle of wind power and participating in Collective energy by their Windy Inspired by children’s imagination of flying and their sketch of ‘fan’ shape as flying gear. Through this exhibit, audiences can generate or collective wind energy. This encourages them to think about the environment, a sense of collaboration and alternate forms of energy creation. Soft Kinetic Media Skin Bio-kinesis is an interactive soft-kinetic media installation that consists of a hundred silicon rubber modules running on pneumatic robotics. This work continuously models the heterogeneous aesthetic patterns of living organisms, emerging from the numerous interactions between modules that are enabled by a self-organising evolutionary algorithm. The application of soft-kinematics that uses pneumatic robotics can be considered as an alternative to kinetic architectural facades. Collective Energy Platform User Participation Energy Saving & Generating Platform

Today, Energy Management Systems of intelligent buildings, based on ICT, have been developed to measure the status and amount of energy saved in buildings. However, these systems do not motivate users to save energy. This research was begun to propose a new concept of sustainable building based on user research and interview. It is expected to save core energy by reducing the amount of lift used. Using the Collective Energy Platform, the user moves up and down every floor and the reader reads the user data. The amount of energy used by an elevator to move one floor is converted into money and a certain amount of it is accumulated as donation coins under the user’s name. The accumulated donation coins are donated to a charity after being accumulated for a certain time, thus allowing the user to contribute to his or her society. Earning Economic Profit

Urban Media Platform Based on a Biological Paradigm

With the advent of ICT, urban components are becoming increasingly embedded with media devices and networked through the Internet. Urban media such as urban screens, bus shelters, and media facades are in turn affected by this development. Urban space becomes the site where new interactions are generated, going beyond traditional notions of interaction, and urban media are progressively shifting from a mechanical paradigm of “interactivity” toward a biological one, as in the cybernetician’s vision. Thus, this research aims to propose a new method for approaching and designing mobile urban media that support biological phenomena based on an emergent approach. Hybrid Monopoly

That bridges between the Physical and the Virtual Interactive media is being increasingly integrated into our daily lives with the advance of media, interaction and IT technology. This socio-cultural phenomenon is leading the emergence of diverse hybrid products beyond digital products, combining physical and digital products. In keeping pace with this phenomenon, we propose an interactive media game product called Hybrid Monopoly. The ultimate goal of this project is to increase the engagement of users through interaction and media technology. We expect that our hybrid product could increase the entertainment value of Monopoly by integrating the physical and the digital dimensions of the game. Drew out the parameter and designed conceptual model for the relationship in each steps by sorting the adaptable architectural system in built environment and type of interactions.

Hybrid Adaptive Interface

Focused on the Data utilized in the Built Environment Today, as the complex interaction in space is caused by the development of information and communication technology(ICT) and intelligent built environment the interaction method between each components in space has become more important. Design of space has been shift to the paradigm exploring the relationship between the components in the built environment based on various data. This study is aimed to define and propose the new intelligent interface and system which is able to provide user-oriented experience based on the interaction physical and virtual through the paradigm shift in space.

The architectural hybrid system and hybrid adaptive interface in this study realize the ideal service which provides user-oriented experience. This obtains the sustainability as an extended social value through the social interaction with a network in certain society. This approach is expected to be used as a framework presenting methodology for the research development and application in the study of built environment based on the interaction.

With the advance of ICT and supply of mobile device, spatial-context data which containing the information of space contextual information is required these days. Through the IoT and M2M, it has enabled to evolve into new service. Intelligent media platform which provides customised data by recognising the user's location, and to discern the situation of users based on it. This research provides the development direction of interactive intelligent interface. In addition, it is expected to be the framework of advanced service content and creation of idea which support user behaviour by having regard to user’s requirement and space contextual information.

It is characterized to pursue flexibility for flexible interaction, controllability and expandability for control and extends space and media based on information, and heterogeneous for combining the physical and virtual space on the basis of the information. Project ‘URBAN HYBRID’ was demanded to revitalise abandoned building by designing the part of building to propose space for social business differentiated spatial sense. This project performed to demonstrate how to change people’s behaviors by media. Proposed a sustainable urban media as a natural system through social culture trend which is creative, collaborate, personalise, share and voluntary.

DMZ Media Cube Memorial Hybrid Media Cube

In commemoration of the 60th Korean War peace regime, the education, promotion, and sightseeing fields produced real-time virtual experience contents of the live camera video service. The service can take a view of the dynamic infographic, interview based promotional video, and DMZ scene by considering natural ecology and regional resources, such as history and culture, targeting on the DMZ of the Korean peninsula that is being resurface as a region that symbolises peace and life by overcoming the war wounds. The region became an issue socially, and developed the DMZ media cube that people can experience contents in person at the exhibition site and an integrated web site that is remotely controlled and shared in the internet environment to make the mutual contact possible. Computational Geometry & Mathematical Shapes Research and Teaching Recursive Pavilion

This research pavilion was made as an intersection of research and teaching. The patterns in the nature have various types and these can be translated through mathematical geometry. Geometric of biological principles and algorithmic thinking have unlimited possibilities when they act with computational design process. Architecturally interpret various mathematical and geometrical figures, design them, and research realistic construction method by fabrication methodology. Taught computational design by using rhino, grasshopper(rhino plug-in), and python script. The final goal of this workshop is to construct physical modeling of modern architectural pavilion composed with complex 3-dimentional geometry processing into digital fabrication. The pavilion could be built exclusively with mdf(medium density fibreboard, 5mm).
