William Frederick Fagg (1923- 2017) It is with sadness that I write that William Fagg always known as "Joe" passed away on the 20th February aged 93 years. Joe was born and lived in Minster all his life starting work at the Old Laundry before moving on to Brockman's Farm and finishing up his working life at Manston Airport on the Ground Maintenance team. Sadly missed by all who knew him our thoughts and prayers go out to his son Trevor and grandchildren Daryl, Deborah and families.

PET FOOD Attwells Newsagents always welcome donations of pet foods for which they redistribute to Local Rescue Groups

We’ve really struggled to fill 32 pages this month, having completely run out of articles or letters to publish, something that Diane doesn’t usually happen. The article we removed last month has been superseded by another so we couldn’t even use that to fill a space. We’ve had reports that some find difficulty in reading the Diana magazine. If that’s you then please just ask us for an audio copy that you can listen to on your CD player or download a copy for your phone/tablet or MP3 player from our website. The images on our front cover of the group working in the area Kevin by the flagpole, were taken on the day some of us spent a couple of hours there clearing the border along the back fence line of weeds and planting over 100 plants and bulbs, which we purchased with the remainder of the money that was raised initially for the flagpole and surrounding beds. The plants we’ve put in were chosen for their ability to attract butterflies and bees and although it will probably be a year or two before they look anything like intended we hope they will eventually add a bit of colour to that area. The Parish Council have kindly seeded the bare patches around the wooden beds so that too should look much better once the grass has begun to grow. Speaking of the flagpole, we now have a small team of volunteers who will be raising a flag every day (weather permitting). The commemorative plaque hasn’t weathered too well so we intend to remove it, have it rebuffed and then lacquered to try to keep it looking better. Finally, my collection of plastic bottle tops is coming on a treat, thank you to everyone who has kept me supplied to date, but I’m still in need of a lot lot more so please keep saving them. Remember you can drop them in at the Library, Attwells or Jemima’s. Well that’s about it, except to say you may read elsewhere in this issue that Zac has been poorly but he is a fighter so fingers crossed - now there’s just enough space left to ask ‘Where’s Zac?’ Gel Polish on fingers and toes only £28 Book now to avoid disappointment

PATIENT LIAISON GROUP OUR NEW PROJECT To purchase a “C-Reactive Protein Rapid (CRP) Test Cassette” and associated cartridges. CRP is found in patients in association with acute infections, necrotic conditions and inflammatory disorders and this test is 99.9% accurate. It will determine whether patients would benefit from antibiotics and can also monitor whether antibiotics are helping to improve the patient’s condition. This equipment is relatively new in the UK and Minster has been chosen as a “pilot” location which should hopefully start within the month. We will then be one of the first surgeries in the country to purchase the equipment and have this complete facility available on site. The approximate cost is £1000 + VAT with an ongoing cost of £50 per month, dependent on patient demand. All monies raised at our Spring Fayre and raffle will go towards this project. SPRING FAYRE Our Annual Spring Fayre will take place on Saturday 13th May at Old Schools in Church Street as usual, and of course, as always it’s ‘Free Entry’! Tables remain at £7 for small and £10 for large and are selling fast, so please book early to avoid disappointment. We will be launching our raffle on 2nd April with our top prize being a handmade Child’s Rocking Horse plus many other prizes. DROP IN SERVICE FOR CARERS In response to a suggestion written on our notice board in the surgery, we are delighted to inform you that we are introducing this facility within the next couple of months. If you are interested in taking part please contact the surgery to register your interest. We would like to express our thanks to the patient who put forward this suggestion and we continue to welcome any other suggestions or comments that patients may have. “WALK FOR LIFE” ACTIVITY PROGRAMME The surgery have now launched this programme and we are inviting people to come and join us in a walk around the local area for about an hour or so, with the aim of meeting others, becoming more active and enjoying our community. These walks take place every Thursday at 10.30 so do please come along and join us, or if you would like further information please contact the surgery. MISSED APPOINTMENTS During the past month only 26 patients did not attend their doctor’s appointment and 58 did not attend their nurse’s appointment. Thank you to everyone who has helped us achieve such an improvement, please continue to do so. FRIENDS AND FAMILY SURVEY Thank you to all those who take part and please continue to do so. We welcome all your comments, because any feedback - good or bad - can help us improve our service to you. A total of 158 patients responded last month with the following results: Extremely likely/likely - 94%; extremely unlikely/unlikely - 2%; unsure/don’t know - 4%. SURGERY CLOSURE DAYS Please note that the surgery will close at 12.00 Mid-day on the following days for the purpose of staff training: Wednesday 26th April; Wednesday 24th May; Thursday 22nd June. BANK HOLIDAYS The surgery will be closed all day on: Good Friday 14th April and Easter Monday 17th April, Monday 1st and 29th May. Please ensure you have sufficient medication to last you during these periods. Should you need to see a doctor when the surgery is closed, please call the NHS 111 Service via the normal surgery number 821 333 where you will be transferred automatically, or you can call direct on 111 to receive non-urgent confidential health advice and information for all the family. For urgent/life threatening issues dial 999. LIAISON GROUP MEETING If you have any issues you would like to raise at our next meeting, or require further information on any of the above, then please contact either Ken Self on 821 200 or Jeanne Lawrence on 821 049.

It is the second time that The Corner House, which celebrates its fourth anniversary in June, has been presented the award, having been a finalist in the best restaurant category for the past three years. The award recognises the quality of the guest experience from arrival to departure. Matt Sworder is Chef Proprietor of The Corner House Minster and its sister restaurant The Corner House Canterbury, which opened in July 2016. He collected the award with Operations Manager Emma May, Head Chef at Canterbury Mark Cragg, Commis Chef at Minster Glenn White and Minster’s Housekeeper Abi Baillet. Unfortunately, Minster’s Head Chef Predrag Kostic was unable to attend due to personal reasons. The other finalists in the Restaurant category were The Mulberry Tree in Boughton Monchelsea, and Saltwood on the Green in Saltwood. Matt was bowled over with the award and says, “We were up against some tough competition and I can honestly say that the win was totally unexpected. The team has been working especially hard to ensure we maintain standards whilst opening up a second restaurant and this award is for them. It’s a real honour to work with such a professional and enthusiastic team and they thoroughly deserve this recognition. It’s also fantastic to have the spotlight shining back on our flagship restaurant, following the successful launch of Canterbury last year.” The Corner House restaurants are currently looking to add to their award-winning team. Please email: for details of positions available. Congratulations to Matt and Corner House staff from Ray and the team at Minster Matters - well deserved MAX CARPET CLEANING

Looping the Loop Festival Spring 2017 Adventures in performance. Live, local and yours for the taking 23 April - 1 May ~ Pre-event activities 11 March - 21 April Public Booking Opens: 1 March 2017 Season 8 revealed! In partnership with renowned theatre producers Battersea Arts Centre, Looping the Loop is set, once more, to fill Thanet with exciting pop-up performances and opportunities to get involved. Locally grown talent and internationally acclaimed visiting artists come together to entertain, inspire and engage through 5 star shows, sonic art, comedy, physical theatre, magical outdoor events, workshops and free activities across Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs. Join us for Looping the Loop Season 8, our biggest, brightest & best programme yet! Whether it’s 3D multi-sensory dreamscapes played out for the under 4s, intimate experiences of brain surgery delivered via headphones or ‘a smack in the face for all of us’ from Theatre Ad Infinitum in the form of a blistering tale of love, family and violent revenge...this spring’s festival is certainly not humdrum! Other Festival activities across Thanet include; the popular FAMILY EXPLORER DAY with theatre director Ellie Jones’ extraordinary treasure hunt in and around Theatre Royal Margate, workshops with visiting theatre makers in drama, writing and digital design, an invitation to get involved with Mischievous Theatre’s UTTER THANET that delves into local people’s stories. First in is pre-festival warm up, A PLAY IN A DAY on March 11, part of POW! Thanet’s celebration of International Women’s Day. This is a £15 crash course in the art of theatre-making where local industry professionals Will Wollen, Helen Stewart and Clive Holland lead you through the process of writing, directing, theatre design and acting leading to the creation and same-day performance of a brand new work made by you for a public audience. Looping the Loop Season 8 proper kicks off at the uber hip Ramsgate Music Hall (NME’s ‘best UK small music venue’) with a lively FESTIVAL LAUNCH EVENT where Margate based .dash theatre will lend their flair for ‘experimental theatre with a rock & roll style’ to a mash up of East Kent’s most cutting edge performers, poets, artists and musicians. Expect a night of camaraderie, fun, canapes and cocktails. Meanwhile, if milk and rusks are more your scene, the under 4s are very well catered for: Estelle Rosenfeld’s immersive multi-sensory INSIDE (a work in progress) takes you and child back to the womb and Tom Penn’s NEVERLAND with 360 video projections, original music and performance leads you both on a journey through the sky and beneath the ocean. REASSEMBLED SLIGHTLY ASKEW, ENTER THE DRAGONS and BUCKET LIST offer up different kinds of journeys to those aged 14 and over. In REASSEMBLED SLIGHTLY ASKEW artist Shannon Yee puts you not just in her shoes but in her hospital bed using binaural digital technology to convey a clever and moving story of her rocky road to recovery from a rare brain infection. With places limited to the number of beds (six), early booking is recommended for this show offering ‘humanity, insight, and a completely different theatrical experience’. Classic clown duo A&E Comedy return to Looping the Loop for one night only with a new frank, funny and fearless show ENTER THE DRAGONS, looking at the subject of female ageing. Expect stupid characters, ridiculous costumes, puppetry, songs, buffoonery and many, many wigs.

April 2017 Season 8 ends with a bang as BUCKET LIST, the ‘blisteringly magnificent play’ written and directed by Nir Paldi lands in Thanet for the final dates of its highly acclaimed UK tour. A Mexican woman’s fight for justice after the political murder of her mother forms the backdrop for a story about love, loss and murderous revenge that will have you on the edge of your seat. ’It is an epic magical story that makes you care deeply’ British Theatre Guide. Looping the Loop is part of the Collaborative Touring Network, a partnership between eight towns and theatre promoters across the UK. The joint aim is to inspire a new generation of theatre-goers and theatre-makers, navigating across the country, presenting a combination of acclaimed productions from Battersea Arts Centre and locally produced shows. Ramsgate Arts is the lead promoter here in Thanet working in collaboration with the Tom Thumb Theatre and freelance director, Ellie Jones. Support at home reaches over 1000 referrals Recently our Thanet Support at Home Service reached the impressive landmark of having received over 1000 referrals. To have achieved this in less than three years is something our Support at Home Team should be immensely proud of. Once someone is referred to us, Debby Turner our Support at Home Manager will make the initial contact, to see what help or assistance is required. The service is free short term help with practical tasks and emotional support, to help older people build confidence and reduce the risk of becoming socially isolated. It is available to people over 75, with significant health conditions and living in the Thanet area. Debby does the initial visit to assess the needs of the prospective client. Together they will agree an action plan, to provide the help and support required. Debby will liaise with her team to ensure everything is put in place. It is always very heart-warming to see the difference we can make to those most in need, by completing simple tasks like shopping, house work and ensuring basic essentials are in place. We aim to take away the worry and stress that not being able to complete these tasks can cause. Unfortunately due to the service being time limited Debby and her team’s time is limited, ideally we would like to stay in regular contact with everyone but unfortunately we can’t. However we try to arrange volunteer befrienders to visit the client, to have a chat, to offer friendship and companionship. If you would like to become a volunteer befriender in the Thanet area and have an hour or so to spare each week, please contact Gill Ball on 01227 749 570 or 07735 556 811 or email to find out more. To find out more about our Support at Home Service, please call Debby on 07718 974 179.

Kate’s Puddings – what’s cooking?

Minster Matters

For those of us who give up chocolate for Lent – the ultimate chocolate Easter treat! I adore salted caramel and chocolate, and the combination doesn’t fail to delight. The salt offsets the sweetness of both flavours, and this tart is one I found several years ago in a magazine. It is VERY rich and smooth, like the best sort of lover… First you have a decadent chocolate pastry, then caramel, then the chocolate top. Dive in! Salted Caramel and Chocolate Tart Pastry: 8oz/220g plain flour 4oz/110g butter 2 tbsp cocoa powder 2 tbsp caster sugar 1 egg yolk 1 tbsp water Caramel: 9oz/250g granulated sugar 3.5floz/100ml water 3.5floz/100ml single cream 4oz/110g melted butter ½ tsp sea salt flakes Chocolate: 4oz/110g dark chocolate 3oz/75g butter 1 egg, 2 yolks 3 tbsp caster sugar Make the pastry – blend dry ingredients, add water/egg. Chill for 20 minutes. Line a 9” loose bottom flan case. Chill again. Bake blind (see page xxxx) Make the caramel by bringing the water and sugar to the boil and keeping going until it smells of caramel and turns brown. Remove from the heat and add the cream, butter and salt, stirring. Leave to cool. Pour the caramel into the baked, cooled case. Put the oven to 180 deg C. Melt the chocolate and butter together, stir. Whisk the eggs and sugar until light, well risen and fluffy. Stir in the chocolate mix, spoon it over the caramel. Sprinkle with salt flakes and bake for 12 minutes. Serve hot or cool. For more decadent recipes, go to Upcoming Events

Saturday 1st April at 7.30pm The Pantaloons present PRIDE AND PREJUDICE It is a truth universally acknowledged that Jane Austen’s witty and romantic masterpiece is one of the best-loved stories of all times, dealing with the most important questions in life… Will Mrs Bennet manage to offload her numerous daughters in record time? Will Lizzy and Darcy actually get together? Will creepy Mr Collins just go away please? The literary classic gets the full Pantaloons treatment in this beautifully hilarious and delightfully innovative new adaption. £14 paid in advance. £16 on the doors. Friday 7th and Saturday 8th April at 7.30, Sunday 9th April at 2.30pm Broadstairs Dickens Players present ENTERTAINING ANGELS BY RICHARD EVERETT Set in the garden of an English vicarage, Entertaining Angels is a glowing, warm but deceptive comic play. Grace, a recently bereaved vicar’s wife faces unknown secrets about her late husband when her eccentric missionary sister Ruth arrives. Meanwhile the new female vicar reveals some un-clergy-like credentials of her own to Grace’s therapist daughter Jo. Entertaining Angles asks if God can be trusted to get anything right. “Or is the whole thing a divine exercise in trial and error” £9 paid in advance. £11 on the doors. TWO WEEKS – TWO PLAYS – Directed by Michael Friend. “A GARDEN FETE” and “A GAME OF GOLF” From “Intimate Exchanges” by Alan Ayckbourn Can Toby a headmaster with the largest collection of empty whisky bottles in the country stop his wife, Celia, from throwing herself into the arms of Lionel, his school’s handyman? Can Celia keep her husband safe from the clutches of young Sylvie who wants an education – and more? Add in Lionel’s father Joe a man with a poem for every occasion, Irene Pridworthy and her redoubtable team of lady golfers, and Rowena wife of the school governor working her way through her husband’s entire squash team. A tour de force for two actors, A Garden Féte and A Game of Golf from the series of plays, Intimate Exchanges, which Alan Ayckbourn has described as a ‘a piece of theatrical lunacy’ involve the characters in a roundabout of mischance, misunderstandings and choices based only on the merest chance. “A GARDEN FETE” Friday 14th April at 7.30pm. MONTHLY ‘ZAC BAG’ COMPETITION As we said last month you won’t find Zac hiding in the magazine this month as we are giving him a rest, but hopefully he’ll be back around July. ‘SPOT ZAC’ COMPETITION Zac’s been found in the Post Office by Rowan so he’s off to find another hidey hole somewhere in the village, keep a look out for him. Here’s his picture so you know who you’re looking for (He’s only about 150mm tall) - OH AND ZAC HAS ASKED US TO REMIND YOU THAT HE’S A DOG AND NOT A RABBIT!! Our competition for the youngsters who attend Minster and Monkton schools or Tadpoles. Zac has moved on to another Minster business and the last time we saw him he looked like he was learning to fly!! All you have to do is find him and submit your answer to us, at the library, on the back of an envelope stating where you saw him, your age, your school and your address. Then whoever is drawn first from our bag will be our winner. The monthly prize will be a cash award of £5, so well worth entering.

ZAC’S MUSINGS I’m writing on Zac’s behalf this month as the poor little lad has been under the weather of late (he is 16 and a half -that’s nearly 116 in human years!!). Zac went to the vet for his annual jabs a couple of weeks ago where it was found he had a heart murmur and some bad teeth. We were worried about how he would react under the anaesthetic which he needed for his dental work, but after a pretty worrying day we were thankfully able to bring him home, albeit in the new knowledge that blood tests they’d taken had shown he possibly had a kidney that was failing. Then I had 4 sleepless nights whilst I sat up with him. We were back at the vets after a week for further tests, which confirmed the kidney problem. Now he’s on a new Renal diet and daily tablets. So what with his existing cataracts and deafness he’s feeling pretty sorry for himself, but nevertheless he’d like me to say a big thank you to George, Keith and all the staff at Eagle Vets who have been have been really good to him.

Minster Matters Minster Parish Council Meeting Summary of Key Points 7th March, 2017

● The Community Warden’s report confirmed that a male has been arrested in connection with damage to motor vehicles in Tothill Street, but there are no leads as to the identity of offenders who damaged the public toilets and CCTV equipment. Speedwatch is being revamped and volunteers are to complete further training in the near future. ● County Councillor Latchford reported that KCC have now balanced their budget; there is council tax rise of 3.99% which includes 2% to contribute to care of the elderly. Elections are now 2 months away and Cllr. Latchford stated that he will not be standing for re-election. ● District Councillor Gregory reminded everyone to be aware of people knocking doors in the area asking for money, purporting to be deaf; this is a scam, do not give them money. If in doubt always ask for official identification. The idea of a unitary council is still being considered and in addition another option of a Thames Gateway group is being discussed. There is a great deal to be considered and consultation will eventually take place. ● Chairman Bob Grove reported that the TDC budget has been agreed by all parties, quite an achievement! He has signed a further letter of objection to send to the Planning Inspectorate on behalf of the Thanet District Council Planning Committee in relation to the appeal on the planning application at 66, Monkton Road. ● A number of residents attended the meeting to raise concerns about vehicles using the pedestrian access paths as a cut through to Thorne Road from Heronsbrook, posing a risk to pedestrians. The Clerk reported that she had liaised with KCC and it was agreed that some 106 funding from the development would be used to install bollards as traffic calming measures. The residents indicated that they were satisfied with this resolution. ● The Chairman spoke on the matter of anti-social behaviour in Tothill Street in the early hours of the morning. In view of the absence of police patrols or wardens overnight it was suggested that consideration be given to members of the public providing a high visibility presence as a deterrent. This matter will be on the agenda for the next Parish Council meeting. ● The Parish Clerk reported that there is a proposal to change the venue of the dog training classes from the area in front of the Pavilion to the land adjacent to the

April 2017 MUGA which will allow an extension of the classes during the summer when cricket is being played. Cllr. Gimes expressed concern that this area is adjacent to all of the facilities aimed at young people; if a section was cordoned off this could reduce the open space for children and families during summer weekends. Further consideration is to be given to the matter. ● Cllr. Gimes raised the issue of correspondence sent on behalf of the Parish Council being agreed by all members. The matter arose from a letter from Minster Parish Council to the Planning Inspectors objecting to 66, Monkton Road in which it was suggested that the land to the west of Tothill Street is more suitable for development, and would take over 250 houses rather than the 150 set out on the Local Plan. This letter had not been seen prior to despatch by all councillors and at least 2 would not have agreed to its contents. It was proposed that all correspondence relating to planning, highways and other significant matters be circulated to all councillors for consideration. This proposal was agreed. ● Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air ambulance wrote to the Parish Council explaining that they rely almost entirely on public contributions and were seeking a grant of £250 from the council. (No doubt similar letters have been received by parish councils across the area.) It was agreed that the air ambulance provides an invaluable service and that, as we are a larger parish, we would donate £1000. ● Quotations have been received to address the drainage issues around the skate park, car park and play area. It was agreed to go ahead with the necessary works.

THANKS FOR LOOKING FOR SUZIE Dale and Julie Martin would like to thank everyone who turned out to look for Suzie who had done a runner from the Minster Rec on Saturday 4 March at around 1pm. Thankfully she was found and caught near to the Cliffsend roundabout. It’s lovely to think there are still some wonderful people who are willing to give up their time to help out people they don't know.

Minster Parish Council staff work tirelessly to keep the village to the standard we are all used to seeing, but unfortunately, with government cutbacks, it is getting increasingly difficult. Minster has a small group of volunteers who look after and maintain two footpaths in the village. An even smaller group is working on the High Street car park to make it a nicer area. We are now looking to enhance the cemetery area. Do you love Minster and would like to help out? Do you have a few hours to spare per week/month? 07938 104 594 Are you aged between 15 and 100? Would you like to have volunteering listed on your University application? Are you embarking on a Duke of Edinburgh Award and require a community scheme to join? If you would like to join any of the above groups, or have another area of the village that you would like to see improved, then please contact The Clerk, Kyla Lamb at or ring 821 339.

Articles published on these pages are written by pupils from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 who attend Journalist Club and write about subjects they are interested in or that they’ve been studying in class

April 2017 Minster’s New Green Minster Church of England Primary School is all about making everything and everyone safe. So we thought it would be nice idea to make a hard patch of land in our playground and replace it with a big chunk of artificial grass. It’s definitely a nice soft place to sit down read a book or just have a chat with your friends. It’s soft enough for people to take their shoes of and sit down (but honestly I find it a whole lot nicer to walk around on it). By Evie Nutley FIRE! FIRE!

Road Safety Officers At Minster Primary School we have two year 6s that are our Road Safety Officers. Every year they are different people from year 6. The Road Safety Officers regularly inform us on different things to do with the road. Every year the Road Safety Officers hold a competition for all year groups. This year KS1 are coloring, cutting and sticking, KS2 have to write a poem about seatbelts and everybody is guaranteed to have fun. KS1 have a piece of paper that has a teddy bear, seatbelt and a booster seat they have to colour all of the items in then cut everything out and finally stick it all together. On the other hand KS2 have to write a poem specifically about seatbelts it could be any type of poem just keep it on the road. Thank you for reading my article. By Annabelle Boucher yr3 Red Nose Day Red Nose Day is on Friday 24th March, anyone can participate in this event and of course they can get a red nose (in my opinion the red nose is the best part of the day!) you can do a series of fundraisers here are some examples : cakes, running, dress up in silly red outfits etc. At Minster Primary School we are dressing up in as much red as possible and making our hair look crazy (and as silly as possible!) Have a good Red Nose Day! By Scarlett and Evie

On the 23rd February 2017, there was a Firefighter who came to our school. He comes every two years and teaches us what to do in a house fire. He makes it more advanced as we go up in years. Part of his job is coming to schools and teaching younger pupils. He teaches us lots and lots of fire safety knowledge and tells us stories about past fire missions. This would help us year sixes because we are soon going to go to a secondary school in September, this would make our parents give us more responsibility. We have learnt a lot of ‘got to know’ stuff, such as: Stop Drop and Roll, making a fire safety plan for your house, what to do when you’re trapped in a bedroom, don’t leave matches and lighters around the house, don’t make hoax calls and more importantly, leave your pets inside and the firefighter will go and save them. The part that we learnt the most of was the fact that when a house fire starts the smoke rises and you can crawl to find more oxygen. The amount of breaths of smoke it takes for you to pass out is 3. By Milly Sparham Ed Sheeran Ed Sheeran has recently released his new album Divide. Some of his songs are already known such as: Castle on the Hill, Shape of You, Galway Girl, What Do I Know and How Would You Feel. Most of his songs have gone worldwide and are known by most of the world already. By Lili Tarling

April 2017 Famine Crisis A few of you may know that we are now in the world’s biggest famine crisis since 1941 [when food donating companies were first founded!] Over 6 million children are starving! Compare that to England’s population, which is 54 million! Compared to England, that isn’t a lot but that’s six million children just in Africa! If you include the adults that’s roughly about 18-24 million! If you include all over the world, the sum will add up to about 50-100 million! However there is a way to decrease this crisis! Donating food of course! A few food [and drink] funds include: Team Tanzania, Water Aid, Oxfam and more! So next time you’re watching television and you’re sitting impatiently through the adverts, keep an eye out for companies advertising world hunger, when you find one, hit pause when you see what number to call. All you need to do then is pick up a phone, dial, and make your donation! Even if it isn’t millions, thousands or even hundreds, every penny could save a life! So please, find it in your heart to give money! If you wanted to be a superhero when you were 5 or 6 or whatever age, well now’s your chance! Even 2 pounds can make a difference! By Charlie Miles Katy Perry !!! Katy Perry was born on October 25th 1989, after having 3 record deals not go very good in the music industry she signed with Capital in 2007. Katy’s career did not fully start until the release of her next song , “I Kissed a Girl “. Three fun facts about Katy Perry 1 . Katy’s full name is Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, but her stage name as we all know is the wonderful Katy Perry !!! 2 . “ Perry “ is actually her mother’s maiden name ! 3 . She has an older sister, Angela and a younger brother, Dan. By Lois Barnes Easter Service Easter is a time to celebrate. By celebrating I mean we go to Church and have something called an Easter Service. Before then we have a lot of practices for our Easter Service, so if you come I hope you like it. The day that we do our Easter Service there will be a lot of people in Church and we do it to help some charities. At the back of the Church there is a collection box so I hope you will at least have a little rummage through your wallet or purse and put a few pounds in the pot. By Ruby OBrien

MINSTER BOWLS CLUB Since the last issue we've had two funerals those of Margaret Griffiths, and of past member Roger Davies. On a happier note we have now had three sessions with the pupils from Minster Primary School on the short-mats. They are enjoying it and in such a short time are showing improvement. During the summer term Alan Razzell will be in charge of the outdoor bowling with the children. On the competition front the Mixed Triples finalists are Sue Jones, Brian Hedges, and Paul Churchley who will play Elaine Symonds, David Ormerod, and Alan Blake. The Men's Singles finalist are Brian Hedges and Paul Churchley. The Mixed Pairs finalist are Barby West and Paul Churchley who will play Sylvia Davis and Mark Lendrum. These finals will be held over the weekend of 8th/9th April. Anyone who would like to watch these finals will be welcomed. In the East Kent Short Mat Leagues all three of our teams are in the top 4 in their respective leagues. The pre-season meeting for the outdoor season is on Thursday 6th April, and it is at this meeting that annual fees are due. Any member of the public who is thinking of joining the club is welcome to attend. Non-bowlers receive three free tuition sessions, from our qualified coaches, when they join. Brian Morphew, Hon. Secretary

DRY CLEANING & LAUNDRY Following the acquisition of Ben’s by the Southern Cooperative the facility for dry cleaning and laundry in the village was very nearly lost. However our great local newsagents
