MODULE 4: KNOWLEDGE – Breed Standards (Breed/Type)

All Judges must strive to preserve and protect the integrity of a breed and always encourage excellence in the show ring.

Each breed standard is the guideline that describes the ideal characteristics, temperament and

appearance of a particular breed. Animals that do not meet the minimum breed standards should not be placed by the Judge in the show ring regardless of how good the conformation might be.

A Breed Standard must ensure that the breed is fit for function with soundness for longevity essential. Judges are mindful of features that could be detrimental in any way to the health, welfare or soundness of any given breed.

Animals at ALL times must exhibit beauty, cleanliness, style and regardless of coat type, the animal must be prepared to look like it should be in the show ring.

GENERAL APPEARANCE - BREED CHARACTER – they must look like the breed.
