TRAGIC TARA WAS A TROUBLED SOUL Over the past few days we’ve spent a lot of time talking about Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, whose untimely death last Wednesday came as a huge shock to us all. Whatever you thought of her, one thing has become abundantly clear – behind her bubbly, eccentric persona hid a truly troubled soul. Tara was a classic example of a celebrity who on the surface seemed to have everything, but was in fact hiding a deep sadness and insecurity. Sure, she had invitations to all the best parties and had friends in high, even royal, places. After all, Prince Charles was her godfather. But despite those trappings, she struggled to find her place in life and ended her days lonely and ravaged by illness. At the height of her wild child ways, Tara – who once

described herself as the “black sheep” of her high-achieving family – was famously pictured arriving at her 27th birthday bash wearing a white bikini and a snorkel. As hilarious and headline-grabbing as it was, inside Tara was falling apart, crippled by a £400-a-day cocaine habit. In recent years, Tara retreated from the spotlight, saying, “I don’t have the confidence I once had. I get frightened. I like my safe places – my comfort zone.” Sadly, it seems she never found it. PANICKED PO WORRIED TH MORE BECK ictoria Beckham is terrified her “perfect family image” has been ruined in the wake of the Beckileaks scandal – and fears there is more to come, an insider has exclusively told new!. The furious star had a face like thunder as she arrived in New York ahead of Fashion Week last Tuesday, wearing a blue shirt underneath a red two-piece. And now a source close to the Beckhams has told new! that Victoria is feeling the strain following the leak of a number of private emails which have brought shame on David, 41, and threatened his squeaky clean reputation. “Victoria is upset as it’s an invasion of their privacy and it does rock the perfect family image they’ve worked David so hard to achieve,” allegedly our mole explained. slagged off The source added, “It’s Katherine in the scary to think about how much emails information the hackers have

got and Victoria is worried that even more personal information could come out.” National treasure David’s reputation was called into question last week after a series of damning messages between him and his publicist, Simon Oliveira, went public. The emails – which Simon claims were “hacked and doctored” – revealed that Becks appeared to be banking on his charity work with Unicef securing him a much-wanted knighthood. Fans were shocked by the alleged content of David’s correspondence, which included colourful language and appeared to show hostility towards Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins, who was awarded an OBE in 2014. The shocking emails revealed that the reason David – who was awarded an OBE in 2003 – was blocked from becoming a “Sir” during the Queen’s 2014 honours was because a “red flag” warning was issued by HM Revenue & Customs due to his apparent participation in an alleged tax avoidance scheme. The furore couldn’t have come at a worse time for the former Spice Girl, who was already under intense pressure for

On Katherine Jenkins receiving an OBE: “Katherine Jenkins OBE for what? Singing at the rugby and going to see the troops plus taking coke. F***ing joke.”

On being approached by Unicef’s ambassador relations manager Chloe Edwards about making a donation: “Chloe asked me outright which I was pissed off about… I don’t want to do it and won’t do it with my own money.”

On postponing a charity event in the UK because he allegedly wanted to avoid paying tax by staying in the US: “The problem for this one is that I cannot go home.”

Pals reveal the fashion designer is concerned more of David’s private emails will go public her latest fashion collection to be a hit at New York Fashion Week. The stress was written all over her face while she attended business meetings in the Big Apple last week, while shamed Becks stayed at home in London with the kids – although our source told us he was intending to jet to the city to watch her show. “Victoria is always stressed out in the run-up to Fashion Week but she could have done without the added worry,” our insider said. “All eyes have always been on her, but she feels as if things are ten times worse now.” Victoria also had the added pressure of having to deal with a deluge of tweets about David’s scandal after she plugged her eponymous fashion line on social media. “Fake people like you and your husband make me sick! You are what’s wrong with society today,” scolded one angry critic, while another commented, “Tell David its about time people can now see what he is really like.”* Sharon Osbourne, 64, also waded into the row, calling Becks “shallow” for his apparent relentless quest to be knighted. “I just think, really, is that what you were working towards, really?” she ranted on US chat show The Talk. “It’s like, shame on you – get a life.” Piers Morgan, 51, also stuck the knife in, branding David a “fraud” over the scandal. “Real heroes don’t use charity work to secure knighthoods and throw tantrums when they don’t get one,” he explained. However, David did have some support from his fans, with one writing, “Why so much hate? David isn’t a bad man.” Unicef also defended goodwill ambassador David, who has worked with them since 2005. Poppy and David left The Friend bar looking the worse for wear

£6,685 business class flight from the charity while apparently privately writing in an email that there is “no way it should be costing me anything”, the organisation said he’d donated “significant personal funds” over the years. Meanwhile, Posh is sure to be embarrassed that Katherine has been dragged into the scandal. The opera singer – who David apparently branded “a f***ing joke” in the emails – denied having an affair with the footballer in 2012 after they were romantically linked, a move which left Posh fuming at the time. Katherine’s manager, Professor Jonathan Shalit, hit back at David’s insults, saying, “Katherine was awarded an OBE for her services to music and charity.” To add to Posh’s humiliation, pictures of David enjoying a Sharon recent boozy night out and Piers with married model Poppy Delevingne, 30, in LA emerged slated last week. The pair, who were Becks pictured leaving The Friend bar together looking bleary-eyed, also partied with Rita Ora and Poppy’s sister Cara.

“Although it is completely innocent, Victoria will be furious that he put himself in that position, allowing people to speculate what went on,” an insider revealed. “She doesn’t really know Poppy but she certainly won’t be happy that David was partying with her, Cara and Rita in LA while she was at home with the kids. “She hates the fact that people comment on their relationship and question how genuine it is. They have a strong marriage and she won’t let it be ruined by any of this.” The power couple are said to be determined to ride out the storm after facing such an intense backlash. Our insider explained, “David and Victoria are keen to protect brand Beckham, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see lots of nice family shots soon because they will want to show everyone how happy they are.” The source added, “The public love David and it will take a lot more than this for his halo to truly slip. But it has shaken him. He works hard on his public image and wants to be relatable.” Looks like you’ve got some making up to do, Becks!

“David Beckham’s emails have shocked many people, because it seems like surprising behaviour. In my opinion, David is very competitive and ambitious, to the point where he is quite ruthless, but we haven’t seen that because he has such a gentle manner. In spite of any negative rumours over the years, he’s never fallen from the pedestal we’ve put him on. David’s always seemed like the ordinary boy made good, but he’s pretty tough and he’s always done what he wants throughout his career. It seems to me he feels invincible – he saw the knighthood as inevitable, and when he realised that wasn’t happening I think he didn’t like it. He believes he’s proved himself enough to have the privilege of the knighthood. He’s probably feeling incredibly sheepish now, because some of the tide is turning against him. But I don’t think he’d have got to where he is today without being ambitious and highly competitive.”

Joel Cooper

‘BECKS SHOULD BE HONEST’ “Brand Beckham will undoubtedly be affected by the leaks, but we are talking about a couple who have climbed to stratospheric levels of superstardom, in spite of the Rebecca Loos scandal. If they can come back from that, they can certainly handle this. They’ve made no denials and that’s the right thing to do. Reminding

Psychologist Jo Hemmings gives us her take on the shock scandal…

the public of David’s charity work is key, but I think fans will be unwilling to accept this as a payoff for his alleged foul-mouthed rants. The only route to go down, if he was my client, would be to make him the victim and emphasise the act of cyber hacking, particularly in defence of celebrities and the invasion of their privacy.

Celebrity PR guru Scarlett Short reckons David still has time to turn things around…

Being honest and admitting your weaknesses just like any other human being earns you respect. I suspect this is just the tip of the iceberg and the beginning of other damaging revelations. But the irony of this saga is that I think his desperately wanted knighthood is now out of the question.”

Lonely Tara’s hidden demons As the showbiz world reels from the shock of her sudden death, we give an insight into Tara Palmer-Tomkinson’s final months…

ragic Tara PalmerTomkinson became a lonely recluse who spent her final months cut off from her close friends, new! can exclusively reveal. Our columnist Amy Childs opened up to us last week about their close friendship, but told us that after initially staying in regular contact with Tara following their appearance on The Jump together in 2014, she hadn’t heard from the star for six months. And Tara’s close pal Ivan Massow revealed he feared she was back in her “dark place” as he hadn’t spoken to her for “over a month” before her shocking death last week aged 45. Amy grew close to the bubbly socialite during training for the Channel 4 ski show, but Tara quit before it aired because she “felt under a lot of pressure”. Amy exclusively told us last week, “I’m absolutely devastated by the death of my good friend. I loved her! She was hilarious and would always make me laugh.

problems. The recurring issue was that it was very hard for her to stay off drinking and things.” In an interview with This Morning the day after Tara’s death, he added, “I hadn’t seen her for over a month. It’s been very hard to reach her. With people like this, you have to sort of let go with love. You can’t badger them, especially because Tara and Amy I could see through her were on The behaviour. I was the last Jump in 2014 person she’d call when she was misbehaving.” We stayed in And after being asked contact and by host Phillip Schofield would FaceTime if Tara could have gone Pal Ivan on each other. He pal, “I’m doing everything I can said, “She was facing a lot of to stay clean, but therapy isn’t

enough any more. Every day I want drugs.” There were also reports that Tara had a “mystery boyfriend” in his fifties who was “very difficult”. It was claimed she was seen with him on the Saturday before she died. A worker at The Bottlery restaurant near her home said, “She looked thin and ill, but she was always happy.” Last Thursday, Tara’s older sister Santa paid a touching tribute to the socialiate on Twitter, writing, “My darling sister. I miss you,” alongside a stunning black and white snap of her sister. As new! went to press, the police were not treating Tara’s death as suspicious, but said it was unexplained and awaiting the result of a post-mortem. A death notice in a newspaper said she had died “peacefully in her sleep”. Last November, Tara revealed she’d been battling a nonmalignant brain tumour for 11 months and admitted she felt she was “not the person I was”, but she bravely vowed to fight it.

Tara attends Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall’s wedding blessing at Windsor Castle Chapel in 2005. The star looks pleased to receive a kiss from her godfather, the Prince of Wales, who is hosting an event for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 2003.

She chats to a youthfullooking Kate Middleton at a book launch in London in 2007. The former It girl is pictured in 2006 following £6,000 surgery to correct her septum, which caved in after years of drugs use.

Tara looks stunning as she arrives at Westminster Abbey for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011.

The star is snapped at an event hosted by Wounded Veterans and Skiing With Heroes last October wearing a wig, possibly to disguise the effects of treatment for her brain tumour.

NEWSFLASH She said, “I’m 100 per cent determined to get better. I’m like Alice In Wonderland. I fall down a rabbit hole… then just as I poke my head out the top, I fall back down again. But I will get out.” Tara was also suffering from a potentially fatal auto-immune condition and a friend revealed last week that her ongoing health issues led to her becoming obsessed with death. They said, “Her health had left her in a really bad way and she was very low. She thought about death a lot and even discussed her own funeral at points.” Ivan also confirmed the tumour was a huge worry for Tara, as well as her collapsed nasal septum, which caved in in 2006 after years of drug abuse in the 90s. He said, “There was lots of surgery. Her nose was giving her problems. She was terribly conscious of it and she always knew her angles. And there was this tumour on top of everything. She was very frail.” Tara’s battle with drugs and alcohol was well documented over the years, but she appeared Tara on The Jeremy Kyle Show in 2014

to beat her demons following a stint in rehab in 1999. She went on to be a successful reality TV star, appearing in I’m A Celebrity in 2002 – coming second to Tony Blackburn – and Comic Relief Does Fame Academy in 2007. She re-entered rehab in November 2012, reportedly to battle anxiety and depression, but denied she was back on drugs, blaming her erratic behaviour on a form of autism. In August 2014, she revealed, “I was diagnosed as having a high degree of autism. It was a shock but could explain why I’ve always lived my life at such a frantic level.” Earlier that year, she appeared on The Jeremy Kyle Show and confessed that her £400-a-day cocaine habit led to an overdose that almost killed her, but said, “I don’t have any temptation to take drugs any more. No, no, gosh no. Drugs absolutely terrify me.” She also revealed she’d seen a therapist “every single week for the last nine, ten years” and that regular attacks of anxiety had made her “a recluse”. But months later, tragic Tara was back in the headlines again following a meltdown at Heathrow airport, where she was arrested for causing a scene after being refused entry into the first-class lounge. Again, she denied drink or drugs were to blame, insisting she’d had a panic attack. “I wasn’t drunk,” she said. RIP, Tara. You’ll be much missed.

TARA’S EX FILES Kris Thykier Tara was briefly engaged to the PR guru in 1997, but Kris reportedly ended the relationship because he was scared off by her presence in the media. He went on to marry Claudia Winkleman in 2000.

Sid Owen Tara met the former EastEnders actor at a London nightclub in 1997 and it was alleged they had a secret – but short-lived – fling while he was still dating Lucy Braybrook.

Tara’s colourful love life grabbed plenty of headlines, too. Here, takes a look at the men she loved and lost… Jamie Hargreaves Greg Martin Greg proposed just five days after meeting the star at Mick Jagger’s 56th birthday party in 1999. But she dumped him after it was revealed he had four other fiancées. He said of their fling, “Tara insisted on hanging upside down by her legs from a steel, four-poster bed frame wearing nothing but a G-string like some kind of sexy, exotic, upper-class female chimp.”

Nick Rhodes Tara dated the Duran Duran keyboardist for a year in 1999, having known him for years. The pair remained pals, with her saying, “I was fortunate to go out with guys like Nick, who’s still a friend.”

Anton Bilton Tara dated the millionaire businessman for 11 months, from 2000 to 2001, but was heartbroken when he left her for her former BFF Lisa B. She said at the time, “I’m totally appalled at how they behaved.”

The Matalan heir, who she split from in 2005, was the “love of her life” and her “soulmate”. She said, “He broke my heart and you don’t get over it, you just get used to it.”

James Blunt She said she got over her split from Jamie by listening to James Blunt’s music – then went on to date him! They had a fling in 2006, reportedly while he was still in a relationship with Camilla Boler.

Duncan James Tara and Duncan were rumoured to have dated between 2008 and 2009, and remained BFFs. Last week, he said, “I know deep down Tara would have loved nothing more than to meet someone, settle down and be happy. We joked we would grow old together and be the best of friends for life.”

LA-based Sierra, 21, who hasn’t followed Mark in return, models bikinis for Boutine LA and boasts 1.4million followers on Instagram. That I don’t take on the roles? That wouldn’t happen.” Michelle is set to spend months away from her hubby again this year while she films the third series of Our Girl, although the location is yet to be decided. Jeremy: ‘Steph needs to step up’ S

tephanie Davis was put under immense pressure by her Celebrity Big Brother ex, Jeremy McConnell, last week, to go ahead with a DNA test to determine if he is the father of her month-old son, Caben-Albi. After taking a test live on This Morning, Jeremy said in an interview later that day, “She needs to step up. She’s saying that I’m the one that’s neglecting the child, she’s the one by not giving me a DNA test so I can potentially give this child a loving father and a happy life.” Jeremy also claimed the former Hollyoaks actress, 23, has tried to make him sign a “life-changing” contract before allowing a DNA test to go ahead. Attacking the way his ex has handled the situation, he added, “It was in hand but she was asking me to sign something that I cannot sign. So the only way for me to find out if I’m the dad is either bringing her to court or if she just does the DNA test, because there’s no way I can sign under her terms and do a DNA that way because it will restrict me from living my life or having a relationship with my son if that’s the case.”

During his stint on This Morning, Jeremy garnered sympathy from host Phillip Schofield who had read the contract and branded it “unreasonable”. But Stephanie hit back at Jeremy in a statement from her agent that read, “Stephanie has felt humiliated by Jeremy denying his own son and foolishly announcing publicly his request for a DNA test. Jeremy has caused Stephanie massive amounts of stress, pressure and upset throughout her pregnancy, ruining what for most women is one of the most special times of their lives.” Steph also maintained that plans for a paternity test were already in motion, and accused Jeremy of having “little concern” for Caben by making their drama so public – despite the fact she has given multiple interviews about their turbulent two-month relationship. The statement continued, “It is upsetting to think that Jeremy would stoop so low to challenge the mother of his child to a DNA test live on TV when it was already in hand. “Caben and Stephanie have only been out of hospital for a few weeks. However, after spending nine months denying that

he is the baby’s father, we cannot believe that Jeremy has the audacity to turn the situation around and bring all of this very much into a media circus, on his terms only.” She also called Jeremy out on his claim that he “never said once that I wasn’t the father” by posting old tweets from him in which he said, “She’s not pregnant with my child,” and, “It’s all lies.” Drama!

Catherine Tyldesley, who plays barmaid Eva Price, wrote, “Laughing my head off at #Rosie #corrie... so good to have you back @helenflanagan1.” And Katie McGlynn, aka Sinead Tinker, said, “Lovely to see the beaut Rosie @helenflanagan1 back on our cobbles xx.” The backlash came in the same week that Helen, 26, admitted she felt “mum guilt” about being a working parent. She revealed, “My mum is doing most of the childcare, but I did get a bit of ‘mum guilt’ when I first had to leave her to go back to Corrie. I’ve never felt anything like that before.” She added, “Then I thought, I’m not doing anything wrong – just because I’m going to work doesn’t mean that I’m a bad mum. Pete tells us about wife Emily’s bumpy flight and defends “battered” David Beckham…

Party time! one and she had no idea that sitting sideways is not a good idea. I knew what was going to happen, which is why I had the camera ready to film. It was hilarious because she kept falling over as the plane was taking off. If you haven’t watched it, take a look! No one could believe how good Theo was on the plane. He was the best he’s ever been. They were like, “He’s a dream. He doesn’t make a noise. What are you on about?” We were like, “Ummm…” Maybe it was the jet that knocked him out? We’ll just have to buy one!

DAVID’S DRAMA The furore surrounding David Beckham’s leaked emails and his apparent desire to get a knighthood has got really messy. I heard Phil and Holly defended him on This Morning last week, with Phil saying it was a private email conversation that should’ve stayed exactly that. I agree. Right or wrong, it’s David’s opinion at the end of the day. I’ve always liked David and I feel kinda bad that he’s getting battered at the moment. I’m sure he’s feeling pretty crap. But hey, everyone makes mistakes, so I think this backlash against him needs to chill.

Apparently, Adele has turned down £40million in sponsorship deals for her four-year-old son, Angelo, in the past year because she wants to protect him from the limelight. Each to their own and good on her if that’s what she wants to do. I totally respect her decision. Obviously, some of my children are in the public eye and it’s generally been reality TV-based. And any money they earn goes directly into a trust fund so they can use it to go to university, buy their first car, put a deposit down on a house etc. It’s well known Emily’s not keen on Amelia and Theo being in the public eye, which I totally respect. With J and P, I realise they were born into it. The way I look at it is, if I can help provide for their futures, I will. But, like I always say, there’s no right or wrong way. If you’re thinking of your kid’s future, you’re doing well.

How much?!

KEEPING IT SIMPLE Kourtney Kardashian shared a never-seenbefore photo of her youngest child Reign’s bedroom last week, and I was told a lot of people were surprised by how minimalist the décor is. Before we moved to our house, J and P’s bedrooms were full of murals of superheroes and horses, but they wanted their new bedrooms to be plain and clean. I’m sure it won’t be long before Junior has posters of his favourite footballers up, though. And Bista’s a fan of Little Mix, which I’m all right with. Mills has a really girlie room, and her shelves are filled with books. I was thinking of setting up a little science lab in there so she can proceed with inventing time travel!

Emily and I had a wicked time in Leeds with Gino and Jessie D’Acampo, Mr and Mrs Schofield, Holly Willoughby and some other wonderful friends last week. We all travelled up to go to Gino’s newest restaurant opening, Gino D’Acampo – My Restaurant. As you know, Gino’s one of my best friends so it was nice to be able to support him. We brought Theo with us as Emily’s breastfeeding, and all the wives fell in love with him. The girls bonded really well with Emily, too, which was great. I couldn’t go mad because we had the baby, but I had a great time. We even stayed over for the night. I posted a video of us on a private jet. It was the first time Emily had ever been on

So our dear Queenie made history last week by becoming the first British monarch to reach their Sapphire Jubilee, having reigned for 65 years. That’s almost as long as my parents have been married – how crazy is that? God love our Queen. She’s stood the test of time and I don’t think she’s in any hurry to go anywhere either. I kind of feel sorry for Prince Charles, though – at this rate, he’ll never be King!

harlotte Crosby and Stephen Bear should be enjoying the honeymoon period, but last week fans were desperately urging the former Geordie Shore star to stay away from him! Charlotte and Celebrity Big Brother winner Bear confirmed their relationship when they were pictured leaving the MTV Brand New gig at Camden’s Electric Ballroom recently. But while it should have been an exciting night for the reality stars, they faced a torrent of online abuse as their followers voiced their concerns about the relationship by dragging up Bear’s chequered history with women. “He looks like he is treating her the same way as the rest before, barely acknowledging her and she looks so insecure walking behind him and trying to get his attention in ridiculous heels and a far too short dress,”* wrote one fan before adding, “She is a glutton for punishment and he will never ever change. At the time, Char was dating Big Brother contestant Ash Harrison, 28, but their five-month romance ended in December.

The exes both posted cryptic tweets about their split, with Ash writing, “If someone purposely, constantly disrespects you, they aren’t a good person. Simple.” On the same day, Charlotte tweeted, “Sometimes everything just… Changes.” Days after his date with Charlotte, Bear told fans he’d seen her private parts in a crude Snapchat video. He said, “She has a pretty nunny,” and, “Hasn’t shaved” – what a charmer! No doubt pals of Charlotte were hoping she’d hook up with someone a bit more reliable after she was left heartbroken last year when her on/off relationship with Geordie Shore co-star Gaz

‘I feel the best ever’ Former Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby tells about her fitness drive but plays it cool when it comes to Bear…

harlotte Crosby is definitely a girl after our own hearts. When we get together with her for a catch up, the former Geordie Shore star admits that the end of 2016 was stuffed full of food and drink – so, unsurprisingly, at the beginning of this year she decided it was time to get active and eat well. And, it’s clear her “huge detox” paid off, with Charlotte telling us how great she’s feeling thanks to her diet and exercise overhaul. Go Char! We can’t help wondering if Charlotte’s fitness drive was inspired by her new romance with Vicky Pattison’s ex, Stephen Bear, 27, but unfortunately, we’re told by the PR that Char’s relationship is a no go area. Sad times. But it’s clear during our interview that Charlotte, 26, is super happy, and here, she admits it was a compliment when Bear said she was marriage material and reveals when she’d like to have a baby…

Charlotte has been on a new year health kick

Can you believe your pal Binky Felstead is pregnant? I know! I’m so happy for her. Are you broody at all? No. I look at my friends from school on Facebook and they’re married and having babies. I bet if you were in that position, you’d be sick of your life. You’d want to be free again, so you’ve got to make the most of your free years. When do you think you’d like to have a baby? About 29. Normally I go along with it, but I can’t be bothered today.

Vicky blasted: ‘Stop taking us for fools!’ Vicky Pattison is accused of airbrushing her latest sexy selfie

hey say the camera never lies, but sadly for Vicky Pattison, that appears not to be true. The former Geordie Shore star was accused of another Photoshop fail last week when she posted a snap on Instagram to show off the results of her new year weightloss mission. Displaying a noticeable thigh gap and an incredibly tiny waist in a black zip-up swimsuit, Vicky claimed, “I woke up like this,” adding that she was “Channelling my inner Kardashian.” She also included her boyfriend John Noble’s Instagram tag on the snap and wrote, “Yours” with three lipstick kiss emojis. But fans were convinced her slimline curves were down to some very clever airbrushing. One disgruntled fan said, “No one believes your photos any more – give up,” while another

ust days after Kim Kardashian jetted back to America following her holiday to Costa Rica without her husband, Kanye West, the pair put on a united front in the face of rumours their marriage was under strain. The troubled duo were pictured last week leaving a spa, Epione, in Beverly Hills, before going out for dinner then heading to Baskin-Robbins for ice cream. But far from looking like they were basking in a post-massage glow, the couple were quickly accused by fans of looking more miserable than ever. One noted, “Always walking behind her looking glum, never looking like a loved up couple, never holding hands or photographed having fun

But body language expert India Ford says there is obvious tension between them. “Looking at previous pictures of a loved-up Kim and Kanye, the contrast could not be more dramatic,” India told new!. “In the beginning, their love was almost palpable – they couldn’t take their eyes or hands off each other – but now, this has been replaced by a look of emptiness and overwhelming sadness.” She continued, “Kanye used to be known as an egomaniac, a macho, charismatic and supremely confident rapper, and it was clear he was the one who was in full control of their relationship. Kim seemed more than happy for him to take on that role. This has now been replaced by a tentative, slightly lost, nervous, submissive, even childlike

You could be forgiven for thinking he’s actually one of her employees.” The pair have been dogged by rumours of a rift ever since Kim, 36, was robbed at gunpoint in Paris last October. The following month Kanye, 39, was hospitalised after suffering a breakdown. And now India thinks that Kim is the one in the driving seat. “It’s possible he is on some form of medication, which would explain the dramatic difference in his ‘energy’ – but whatever the reason, here is a couple who appear to be extremely unhappy

and in a very different emotional space to each other. Kim looks to be the one who is now in charge.” As new! reported last week, the couple may have been at loggerheads over their differing opinions on President Trump. While Kim made no secret of the fact that she was a huge Hillary Clinton supporter, Kanye posed for pics with Donald Trump back in December and tweeted about their meeting at Trump Tower in New York. and spending every moment together, as you might expect, the pair had in fact decided to take things slowly. “We’re just going to see how it goes,” she tells us. “We’re not going to rush into anything. He’s busy, I’m busy. We need to just take it step by step, have the first date and go from there.” So, obviously, when we hear Jamie’s bombshell the following day, we have to get hold of Bianca to find out how she’s feeling about the split. Here, the gutted star opens up to us about being unceremoniously dumped by Jamie and her body issues…

with Jamie, we arrange to meet her for a totally unairbrushed photo shoot and an interview just two days after she leaves the CBB house. Little do we know, however, just 24 hours later, Jamie will publicly call time on their budding romance, saying he needs to “focus on other things in his life”. Ouch! But perhaps the signs that all’s not well are there when Bianca arrives at new!’s photo studio. Indeed, we can’t help noticing that she seems a little subdued, although the 5ft 5in star – who trained five times a week prior to CBB and dropped from 10st 5lbs to 9st – puts that down to being a bit “scared” at the prospect of getting her kit off for our shoot after indulging in the famous house. And, as talk turns to Jamie, Bianca tells us that instead of immediately hooking up after the show

Hi Bianca. Sorry to hear the news about Jamie. How are you feeling? I’m fine and have been making sure I keep busy. I’m really disappointed, but I understand his decision and, of course, family and Her “secret children should boyfriend” CJ always come first. NEW-MAGAZINE.CO.UK

EXCLUSIVE How did you find out? I found out through a newspaper article! After everything in the house, I do think it would have been more respectful of him to actually tell me before it came out in the press. We agree! Do you think he used you in the house for a showmance? I have no idea. All I can say is I’m really disappointed. It wasn’t a showmance for me. I don’t even feel comfortable talking about it. Will you keep in touch or have you lost respect for him? I wish Jamie all the best. He was a great friend to me in the house. Do you regret throwing away your relationship on the outside? Things weren’t right and I believe everything happens for a reason. Had you met Jamie before CBB? No, that was the first time. What was it about him that you liked? Was he your usual type? Yeah, because he’s a lad’s lad and he’s a bit cheeky. He was always swearing and I don’t know why, but I really liked it. We just really got along and it was nice to have him there. At what point did it click that you were more than friends? At the start, he said I was like a sister to him. Then the more we spent time with each other, the more we really liked spending time together.

He’s someone I thought I would hang out as I came out, Jamie said she’d been really with on the outside. lovely about me and I really appreciated it. Were you living with him? No. Have you spoken to him since you left the house? No. There’s nothing to say. Would you ever go back there with CJ? No! What does your mum, Sheryl, think? Was she Team Jamie? I think she just wants me to be happy, so it’s not team anyone. I think she’s disappointed in CJ, because I know he was really trying to get into the house to confront me. She was really worried. What would you have done if CJ had gone in the house? I kind of expected him to. It’s been a wake-up call for me because I’ve always had a fear of people wanting to be with me for those reasons, and he’s just gone and proved that. In the house, Kim Woodburn called Jamie an “adulterer”… I do think Kim was totally bang out of order to even bring that up, because people make mistakes. Do you think Kim was putting on a show for airtime? I’m not too sure because she was so lovely to me, so I can’t understand

No. I’ve got body dysmorphia, so… But you look amazing! I don’t feel it right now. So I have to get back in the gym and start eating healthily again. I was eating more carbs than I do normally. How much do you weigh? I’m too scared to weigh myself after CBB!

‘I’ve always had a fear of people wanting to be with me for fame’ it. She’s obviously TV gold, but to live with, it was difficult at times. But 90 per cent of the time she was lovely. Were her mood swings real? No, they were fake. We heard rumours you could be signing up to Big Brother in the US. Is that true? Well, I hope so! I’d do it! How would you describe your CBB experience overall? One word – mental! All the tasks felt like they were personal attacks! Let’s talk about our shoot today. How do you feel about posing for unairbrushed pictures? I’m very scared! Before I went in the house I lost

Do you think you put on weight? I wouldn’t even like to think. What’s your ideal size? I’m a size 10 and my ideal size would be an 8. Exercise is key. Have you always struggled with body confidence? I’ve never really been confident. I was a bit of a chubby kid and I think it stems from that. You’ve had two boob jobs. Would you ever have anything else done? I’d have everything done. Have you seen Linda Nolan’s facelift? It’s unreal. I’ll definitely be having that when I’m older! GEORGIA FARQUHARSON

It was a joke.” Sure it was! And if, like us, you thought their short-lived romance was just a publicity stunt, we’re all wrong! “Of course it was real. Taylor is an amazing woman,” he said last week. “She’s generous and kind and lovely, and we had the best time.” Of course you did!

Sofia Richie & Lewis Hamilton

T? We didn’t see this one coming! Formula 1 driver Lewis, 32, is said to be dating Justin Bieber’s 18-year-old ex, Sofia. The model seemed to confirm their romance when she was spotted taking one of Lewis’s beloved bulldogs for a walk in West Hollywood. Tongues began wagging about the pair becoming close after they were seen going into a Beverly Hills sushi restaurant recently. Lewis, who split from X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger in 2015 after years of on-off dating, will resume racing in March in Australia. We hope this one goes the distance!

Music’s hottest couple have reportedly put the brakes on their whirlwind relationship – for now. Pals of J.Lo and Drake have revealed their busy work schedules were to blame for the split, with one saying, “She likes Drake. They’re just busy, so it has fizzled. She’s a mum with an insanely busy career. He’s touring in Europe. Who knows what will happen in future when they’re more able to be in the same place.” Earlier this month, J.Lo, 47, who began dating Drake, 30, in December, posted a cryptic message on Instagram, which read, “Timing is everything. If it’s meant to happen, it will, and for the right reasons.” She’s not wrong!

Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two presenter Zoe has moved on from ex-hubby Norman “Fatboy Slim” Cook with Antiques Roadshow cameraman Billy, 40. The pair were snapped leaving a London pub together the day after Zoe, 48, helped him move house. Her TV veteran dad, Johnny, said, “We’re happy that she’s finding a new lease of life.” The pair met at the BBC after Zoe‘s 18-year marriage to DJ Norman, 53, ended last September. Cracks started to show in their relationship when she was snapped snogging singer TayTay Starhz, 23, at a party in 2015. We hope Norman finds his happy ending, too.

Tom’s had a difficult year with Linda’s death and Priscilla’s been an amazing support.” Tom said recently, “We’ve been friends for a long time. She’s a lovely lady. We do enjoy our nights out together.” A spokesperson for Tom told reporters, “They’ve known each other for many years.” Sweet!

‘Vogue and I will be fri A tipsy Spencer Matthews takes a break from The Jump to share a pint with and talk about those Vogue Williams romance rumours… e made his name by bedding lots of glamorous women and partying hard. Now ex-Made In Chelsea star Spencer Matthews claims he’s putting his lothario past behind him to concentrate on The Jump. However, just days into the competition, rumours abound that Spencer, 28, has already had flings with fellow contestants Vogue Williams, 31, and Jade Jones, 23. And when new! jets over to Austria to meet up with him at a hotel bar in Innsbruck, near the Jump training ground, Spencer doesn’t seem to be taking training all that seriously – knocking back several beers in just a couple of hours. Louis said I could have been an athlete if I’d picked a sport as a child and stuck with it, which is the nicest compliment I’ve ever had. Bradley Wiggins said I could have been a good cyclist. I was like, “Is that a joke? Bradley, you’re a legend.” What’s the poshest thing you’ve done while you’ve been out here? I did show Jake Quickenden my gilet collection. That’s quite posh. I called him up and said, “Mate, can you come over and check out my gilet collection, as I don’t know which one goes best with this shirt?” Actually, I’m getting less posh. I’ve started speaking like Jake. I’ve started calling everyone “bruv”. I’ve never said that in my life. I usually say “brother”. I don’t know what’s happening. What do you think of your former MIC co-star Binky Felstead expecting a baby with Josh Patterson? I think Binky will be a wonderful mother. He didn’t tell me, she didn’t tell me. I found out in the papers like everyone else, which was surprising. They’re a nice couple and I hope they make it work. You know, Made In Chelsea makes everything very tempestuous. Everything always seems worse than it is. They’re probably very happy and if I don’t get the call to be Uncle Matthews, I’ll be pretty furious, to be honest. Would you like to be godfather? No, just Uncle Matthews. I’ve got eight godchildren already and I don’t need another. I’ve already got one too many. I had seven and I called them the Seven Dwarves and I loved it. Then I had another and that ruined the joke. Would you like another go at I’m A Celeb? Yeah. I’d do it. I thought it was best to let it cool off. Everything was twisted and turned quite weirdly last time. It wasn’t what it seemed. I didn’t leave on my own accord. Is this the best interview you’ve done? What do you want to ask next?

I feel like I’m on The X Factor and if I have a shit voice I’m going to be nailed, so I want to make sure my interview is as good as it can be. So this [points to his beer] is giving me a bit of courage. Have you had the chance to discuss Louis’ sex video with him? Yep. I don’t think he cares. He laughs it off. He’s a good lad, he made a mistake when he was younger, just like loads of people have. It’s funny, let’s be honest. Do you worry about being caught out like that? No disrespect to Louis, but I would never wank myself stupid in front of a camera. Are you a reformed man now? What was I before? Look, I’m not going to go as far as to say that Made In Chelsea isn’t real, but I think a few things are exaggerated from time to time! EMMA COX

e’re used to seeing the Duchess Of Cambridge dressed up to the nines, but last week Kate swapped her Louboutins for trainers during an energetic day out with her hubby, Prince William. The 35 year old took on her other half in a race at the Olympic Park in London, as part of a training day for the London Marathon. And while she may not have beaten Wills to the finish line, she certainly won our approval for her casual – yet still stylish – attire, comprising a striking red ski jacket, black skinny jeans and running shoes. In fact, we couldn’t help wondering whether Kate’s fresh look had been inspired by the latest addition to the royal circle, Prince Harry’s girlfriend, actress Meghan Markle, also 35. It wouldn’t be a surprise, as last week sources claimed the “Meg effect” could soon take over the “Kate effect”, after sales of a ring the star was pictured wearing rocketed. So, with Meghan being snapped out and about in London last week, clad in a classically British Barbour jacket and wellies, we decide which royal WAG rules when it comes to casual chic…

Jorgie: ‘I should be married by now!’

When we approached Jorgie Porter at the glitzy fashion event, we were taken aback that we had to chat to her in front of a TV crew. The actress was filming for Celebs Go Dating and we couldn’t wait to grill her on her hunky new man – sales exec James Mitchell – who she met on the show, and who was her plus one at the event. “So far it’s really fun,” Jorgie, 29, told us between giggles. “We’ve had three dates, this is our fourth. It’s going well.” And while the star told us she thinks she “should be married by now”, she admits she easily loses interest in men. “Once I dumped a boyfriend because he was slurping up a Pot Noodle in bed!” Hope James isn’t a fan of midnight snacks!

Former TOWIE star Billie, 27, appeared to make a dig at Paul after Sam revealed he dictates what she wears. Speaking at the launch of their new Minnie’s Beauty range, Sam – who’s mum to one-year-old baby Paul, who was named after his dad – explained, “Paul loves fashion and he’ll send me pictures of women’s clothes and say, ‘I like this.’ He really likes me in casual clothes, like a tracksuit.” But a shocked Billie, who’s expecting her second child, said her fiancé Greg Shepherd was different. She revealed, “Greg’s the opposite to Paul. He’d never send me pictures because he just wouldn’t know what to suggest.” Perhaps hinting that Paul criticises Sam’s style, Billie added, “Greg compliments me. He wouldn’t dare say I shouldn’t wear something.”

depend on people you might not need in the real world. I don’t think it was a showmance. I think it was real for her.” The former US X Factor star also said she gave Bianca, 30, a warning about Jamie, who has three children with ex-wife Danielle Lloyd. “I think he comes with a lot of baggage and she’s too young for that,” she said. “There was a lot to deal with.”

Looking slim in shiny leggings and an oversized pink jumper, the mum of two posed in the photo booth and had her blonde hair braided to celebrate the new Ultimate Blends Maple Healer haircare range. But in a sign she’s left her party days behind her, Fearne, 35, avoided the champers and left just after 8pm – probably so she was fresh for her chat GLG Olivia Lorraine the next morning. There aren’t many stars we’d brave the February freeze for, but Jamie Dornan is one of them! Speaking at the premiere of the latest risqué Fifty Shades film, the hunky actor told GLG he and co-star Dakota Johnson couldn’t stop giggling while filming kinky scenes. He said, “We make each other laugh very easily and when she starts she doesn’t stop! There are days where we have to take a bit of time out!” Meanwhile, a visibly cold Dakota also gushed about their bond, saying, “We have a very unique friendship built fundamentally on trust and respect.” We’re not jel at all, Dakota!

ROSAMUND PIKE A UNITED KINGDOM PREMIERE NEW YORK, FEBRUARY 6 This Giambattista Valli dress is so pretty but the 38 year old’s hair and make-up are too severe for this red carpet look. It’s a mismatch of styles that doesn’t cut it for us.

OSCARS NOMINEES LUNCH BEVERLY HILLS, FEBRUARY 3 This one-shouldered Louis Vuitton dress is definitely edgy but the delicate 36-year-old actress is better suited to a softer look. Also, the colour is too close to her skin tone. WORDS: Stacey Moors PHOTOS: FilmMagic, Getty Images, Wenn, Wireimage

b – y l i m a f a e v o ‘I’d l n o t ri g h t n o w ’ Former TOWIE star and fitness fanatic Lucy Mecklenburgh tells why she’s not broody…

ere at new!, we always love catching up with Lucy Mecklenburgh – she’s easy company, fun and honest. But when we get together with the star following her recent sunshine break to Abu Dhabi, she tells us she won’t be answering any questions about her relationship with tattooed dad-of-two and plumber Nathan Sharpe, 36, who new! first revealed she was dating last September. Perhaps it’s no surprise that Lucy is taking this new approach given how burned she has been in the past. When she rose to fame on The Only Way Is Essex back in 2010, her rocky relationship with former fiancé Mario Falcone was well documented, and having publicly declared her love for Olympic gymnast Louis Smith, she was left humiliated when he dumped her after their romantic holiday in Thailand last February after 15 months together. Here, the 25 year old, who’s promoting Boux Avenue’s new lingerie collection, discusses her worst Valentine’s Day and reveals why she’s not annoyed about her She’s eased BFF Lydia Bright being herself back friendly with her ex into her gym Louis on The Jump…

Hi Lucy, how was your recent trip to Abu Dhabi and Dubai? It was really fun. I flew over with a couple of friends for one of their birthdays. I was quite lucky because my dad is out there at the moment and it’s pouring down with rain and there are sandstorms! Your social media snaps looked amazing. Do you feel in your best ever shape? I’m really happy and content with my body at the moment. I’ve got a good balance. I enjoyed Christmas, New Year and my holiday. I’ve not been training an extreme amount but I feel confident. How many days are you training? I’m doing three to five hours a week in the gym at the moment. I think it’s really important for people to remember rest days. In January people dive into training and forget you have to let your body recover. I hurt my back by

Are you eating healthily again now? Yes – I started this morning. I’ve just made some homemade dark chocolate and banana cookies. I had cocktails when I was away so I’m craving sugar and these healthy snacks are easing me in. I feel like such a domestic goddess! Do you have any Valentine’s Day plans? I don’t, but anything will be better than last year. What happened then? I spent Valentine’s Day on an aeroplane with a creepy man coming on to me and I had a hangover so I kept running to the toilet to be sick. And my TV didn’t work. The man asked if he could take me out when we landed in Dubai and I was like, “No, go away!” How’s it going with Nathan? [Pause] Basically, I’ve decided to keep my private life a bit more private. I was on reality TV when I’d just turned 19 and I didn’t know all my relationships would be shown. I was a bit naive to it. I’ve done a lot of growing up. Dating and relationships in the public eye are tough. Also break-ups aren’t nice. So you like dating someone who’s not in the public eye? I like getting to know someone away from the diving back in after having public eye. It’s a lot easier and less pressure. so much time off and not How do you juggle your busy work life with stretching as much as I should. having a relationship? Lucy has been enjoying some winter sun in Abu Dhabi

Do you have any other holiday plans? I’m going to Paris next month for a few days, which I’m excited about. All the girls and gays out together! Will you fly out to Austria to see Lydia in action on The Jump? If I can, I will – I’d love to support her. But I don’t know if it will work out in terms of timings. She’s coming back for a few days in between filming though, so we’ll go out then. Have you been nervous watching her? I’ve been watching all anxious and thinking, “Please don’t hurt yourself, Lyd!” Would you ever do the show? Never say never. I love skiing, although I love skiing at my own pace! I’ve done gymnastics with Tumble and cycling on Tour De Celeb but I don’t want to push my body to the absolute limit. With Results With Lucy and modelling, I can’t afford to break a leg. Are you supporting Louis on The Jump too? We’re civil and I support him, but we’re not in touch much. I think he’ll do really well. He’s wanted to do that show for a long time. Is it a bit awkward that your best friend is on a show with your ex-boyfriend? No, I’m not like that. I want the experience to be nice for Lydia. I don’t want her to feel awkward. I know he gets on really well with her, which is fine with me. Gemma Collins recently filmed the ITV show Sugar Free Farm. What are your thoughts on extreme dieting? I think it’s all about education. At school I was taught how to make a shepherd’s pie and apple crumble with tonnes of sugar in it. I think if you learned a few healthier options it would really help in future life. Tell us about your latest collection with Boux Avenue… I’ve always loved wearing Boux because it’s great quality. I modelled for them in the summer and the range did really well. It was flattering for them to ask me to model the Valentine’s Day range. I love the black body with floral designs on it – I’d wear that out! OLIVIA ADAMS

Our mum-to-be hits back after prawn-gate and reveals Sam Faiers is giving her pregnancy advice…

i, honeys. I had a 4D scan at Window to the Womb in Essex last week and it was so amazing! We saw our little baby’s face for the first time – it felt so surreal. The baby has my nose and Brad’s eyes and it has lots of hair already. At first the baby was hiding and covering its face – they said maybe the baby is camera shy, so it doesn’t take after me then. Ha! But after a walk and a cup of tea we went back and the baby was in the

PRAWN-GATE! I was having a lovely meal with my mum at Alec’s in Essex last week and posted a picture of my prawn cocktail. OMG, I still can’t believe the abuse I got! So many people were having a go at me for eating prawns, telling me I’m harming my baby. Just for the record, the NHS says it’s fine to eat cooked prawns during pregnancy! It was so horrible to read those comments – as if I would do anything to harm my baby (not that prawns cause harm!). I’m learning about pregnancy as I go along, so it really wasn’t nice being attacked like that! People need to think about what they write – and maybe do a little research too. I was also trolled for buying a stair gate in Mothercare last week. People

were saying, “Does she realise the baby doesn’t come out walking?!” Erm, it’s actually for my dog, Leo, so I can keep him in one area of the house when the baby arrives!

My placenta plans! So, call me mad, but I’m thinking of turning my placenta into pills! Apparently it’s all the rage and celebs like Coleen Rooney and Kim Kardashian took them after they gave birth. It’s all very clever – they take all the nutrients out of your placenta

right position – and it was sucking its thumb. So cute! We are so excited now – I’m 29 weeks so it won’t be long. I also had a midwife appointment and all is measuring well. My blood pressure was a tiny bit low so I’m taking some iron tablets. It’s very common, but they’ll still keep an eye on me.

My friend Sam Faiers has been giving me lots of parenting tips, like which pram to get. One of her top bits of advice was to try breastfeeding so I’m definitely going to give it a go. I don’t want to put pressure on myself, but Sam has been in the salon with baby Paul and she makes it look so easy. She’s written a book called My Baby & Me and gave me a copy. It’s so interesting and I’ve learned loads already. As you know, Sam’s sister Billie is also pregnant and I’m going to her baby shower soon. I can’t wait!

once it’s out, turn it into pills, and then you just take them with water like a vitamin! It’s better than cooking and eating it. Ugh, no way would I do that! I still need to properly look into how it all works – like, where do they take the placenta and when do they make the pills? – but I think I’m going to try it.

Everyone keeps saying that once the baby arrives me and Brad won’t have any time for ourselves, but we don’t go out all the time anyway. We prefer to have a bit of dinner at home and watch TV. We have been thinking about a babymoon, though. It’d be so nice to have a few days away, just the two of us. I wouldn’t want to go too far, but a little trip away in the sunshine would be perfect.

James Dunmore The former Made In Chelsea star tells whether he’ll follow in girlfriend Lucy Watson’s footsteps and go vegan… HEIGHT 6FT 1IN

You’re in great shape! What kind of training do you do? I’m about to start training for a Tough Mudder event in May. I tore my knee ligament before Christmas, so I’m really starting from scratch. Do you exercise regularly? I go to the gym probably five times a week. What kind of stuff do you do at the gym? It’s a mixture, but mainly weights. I also run once a week and swim sometimes. I play tennis, too. Do you and Lucy ever work out together? I can’t work out alone – I’m the worst. I go with Lucy sometimes, as there’s a gym in our building. Would you say you’re body confident? I’m not shy, so yeah, I guess. I don’t agree with people who think you have to keep your top on. Do you feel more pressure to look good because you’re in the public eye? Unfortunately, social media has made everyone feel more pressure. But I go to the gym because I can go in a bad mood and come out in a good mood. I go for my whole lifestyle. What’s your favourite part of your body? I enjoy working out my back, but I don’t turn in the mirror and think, “That’s a lovely back!” Moving on to diet, are you vegan like Lucy is? I’m not fully vegan, no, but I’ve made a few changes going towards that way. I actually get my food sent to me by a company called Gold

Standard Nutrition. When I’m not eating their products, I eat a lot of rice, a lot of chicken and a lot of vegetables. Does Lucy try to persuade you to go totally vegan? She would like it if I was fully vegan, but she understands that everyone has their own journey. She’s very passionate about what she believes in. I imagine I will one day. Do you ever have cheat days? It’s not necessarily a day – I’m not very strict. I don’t believe in starving yourself as you crave something and then binge on it. What’s your vice? Sweets are my biggest downfall. I could eat about four bags of sweets a day. Lucy buys vegan sweets for herself and she’ll go to the cupboard and find I’ve eaten them! How often do you drink alcohol? I probably go out for one big night a week. I like to think that being healthy and living your life is a balance. I don’t think it’s healthy to be super gym-honed and only eat broccoli.

WORDS: Georgia Farquharson PHOTOS: Getty Images, Rex Shutterstock

BREAKFAST “The first thing I have is a shake in the Nutribullet. I use 100g of oats, a banana, one scoop of protein powder and one teaspoon of peanut butter, then water. Then I’ll have a five-egg omelette with broccoli.” NUTRITION CONSULTANT IAN MARBER SAYS, “Training for Tough Mudder requires dedication and plenty of first-rate fuel. A shake followed by protein and vegetables supplies enough calories, but with just 100g of oats, it’s a little light on carbs, so James should add a piece of toast to the second breakfast.” LUNCH “I had a Gold Standard Nutrition Pot O Gold, which is basically a pot of chicken, rice and vegetables.” IAN SAYS, “Getting a good ratio of the macros – that’s protein, carbs and fat – is important for everyone, but more so for someone training hard. This lunch ticks all the boxes.” SNACKS “I’ll have a portion of chicken with a Gold Standard Nutrition Pot O Mash, which is sweet potato and kale mixed into mash, with some vegetables.” IAN SAYS, “James had chicken for lunch so he could have salmon here instead, which offers omega-3 fats that can combat inflammation associated with heavy gym work.”

DINNER “I had vegan spaghetti bolognese, made by Lucy. She puts soya mince in it, with loads of vegetables.“ IAN SAYS, “Soy is a great source of protein and is low-fat too so it’s an ideal choice for a vegan main course. Tomato-based sauces provide lycopene, an antioxidant that gives the red colour. It’s also found in watermelon.”

‘I’m cursed real life Sle t 15, Annabelle Hutt had the world at her feet. But following a routine swine flu vaccination, she developed narcolepsy – a rare, long-term brain disorder that causes sufferers to suddenly fall asleep at inappropriate times. Unable to stay awake, Annabelle lost friends and even her boyfriend. Worse, she also developed cataplexy, which causes her to collapse if she experiences strong emotions. Here, Annabelle, 21, a personal trainer from Buckingham, tells new! how she’s learning to live with her disorders – with the help of her very own Prince Charming…

Doctors think Annabelle will have narcolepsy and cataplexy for the rest of her life

Jolting awake, I glanced around at my family and saw my fork was still in my hand. I realised what had happened and felt my cheeks burn. I’d fallen asleep at the dinner table. Again. Aside from the embarrassment I felt, I was fine, but this wasn’t a one-off. My condition, narcolepsy, means I fall asleep up to 15 times a day – and I have no control over when or where. Growing up in Thame, Oxfordshire, I was close to my parents Andrew, 52, and Debbie, 51, and my sister Francesca, 23. I had great friends and plenty of interest from boys. I dreamed of becoming an interior designer, falling in love and living happily ever after. However, in February 2009, when I was 15, I had the swine flu vaccination at school. It was given to all but two students who’d already contracted swine flu. Our parents gave their consent and after having the jab we were sent home for a week because two students had already contracted swine flu and the school wanted to stop it spreading. There was no mention of potential side effects, but nine months later, I found myself getting really tired and I began to doze off during lessons. “Late night, Annabelle?” scoffed my teachers when they caught me yawning. But I was getting eight hours’ sleep each night, so even I couldn’t understand why I was always so sleepy.

With my GCSEs on the horizon, I was studying hard. Concerned about my tiredness, Mum even asked if I could take coffee into my exams. In June 2010, during my biology GCSE, I found myself drifting off. Suddenly I woke up and realised ten minutes had passed. Then, looking down, I saw I’d written “I love you, Daddy xxx” as an answer to a question on genetics. “Why can’t I stay awake?” I wondered, embarrassed and confused. I fell asleep during my French exam too and, unsurprisingly, my results suffered. I’d expected B grades but instead I got Ds and Es. My classmates couldn’t understand what was wrong and started to tease me. One girl even threatened to put my head down the toilet because she thought I was weird. During girlie nights in, I fell asleep as soon as I sat down. In the end, I was invited to fewer and fewer gatherings. I felt miserable, so in February 2011 I went to my GP. “Have you had the swine flu vaccination?” she asked. “It’s been directly linked to sleep problems.” I was referred to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for tests to determine how my brain functioned when I slept. I was monitored for four days and later got my diagnosis. “You have severe narcolepsy,” my consultant told Mum and me. “It’s a rare, long-term brain disorder that causes patients

Annabelle aged 17, fast asleep after a game of lacrosse at school

She regularly passes out at mealtimes

to suddenly fall asleep.” I sat listening, terrified. “Is there any cure?” Mum asked. “Unfortunately not,” the consultant replied. “The condition will only get worse.”

A BLEAK FUTURE We had no idea what it would mean for my future. The consultant recommended I keep a regular sleeping pattern and take regular naps. As I tried to get my head around my diagnosis, we looked into chasing compensation but, overwhelmed by the paperwork, we gave up. My condition continued to deteriorate. Every time I sat down, I found myself falling asleep for five minutes. Mealtimes were a nightmare. My head would be on the table within seconds. The driving authority assessed me and said as long as I take regular breaks I’m OK to drive. But whenever I got behind the wheel, I kept stopping for naps to make sure I was safe. Once, I was left with a massive bruise when an episode came on suddenly and I walked headlong into my car. The embarrassment became harder to bear. At a wedding, my head drooped during dinner. When I woke up, I was piling broccoli on my phone and everyone was looking at me. I was mortified.

Finding work after college became impossible. I was unable to sit at a desk without falling asleep, so my dream of working in interior design was crushed. I discovered I felt more awake when I was working out and, as I’d always been interested in fitness, I decided to study sports science instead, as it was less desk-bound. At college in October 2011, aged 17, I met Liam*, who became my first boyfriend. He was really sweet about my condition. He understood when I excused myself from dinner if I felt an episode coming on. But although we enjoyed cinema dates and romantic meals, they were always cut short by my inability to stay awake. Just a few months into the relationship, he phoned me. “I want to be with someone who can go a whole evening without falling asleep,” he moaned. “I’m sorry, it’s over.” I was devastated. “I’ll never get a boyfriend,” I sobbed to Mum. To make matters worse, I also developed

cataplexy aged 19. The condition, which is triggered by strong emotions, causes sudden muscle weakness and is linked to narcolepsy. It’s hard to remember the first time it happened, but it first began with my head falling when I started laughing.

Cataplexy affected my speech, and even laughing too much meant I’d fall to the floor. When an episode began, my head would start to droop and my limbs would feel weak. It made everyday things impossible, and I’d regularly drop to the ground. I was desperately unhappy. My life had changed so dramatically – I had no idea whether I’d be able to hold down a career and was convinced I’d never find love. But in February 2015, while on holiday in Austria, I got chatting to a Dutch student named Maikel, who’s now 26. He was tall, dark and handsome, and seemed sweet and charming, too. He invited Boyfriend Maikel me out to exercises with dinner where, Annabelle (left), of course, which eases I fell asleep her conditions mid-meal.

Mum had mentioned my narcolepsy to his parents so while Maikel was aware, it still came as a shock. When I woke up, I was convinced I’d scared him off. But I couldn’t believe how supportive he was. “We can nap together during the day!” he smiled, reassuring me it wasn’t a big deal. We started a long-distance relationship and in March 2015, I flew to Maikel’s home in Groningen, Netherlands, for a surprise visit. His brother told me where to find him playing football with friends. But as I approached, I felt a cataplexy episode coming on and my knees went weak. Excitement overwhelmed me and suddenly I collapsed. I was so embarrassed, but Maikel rushed over, picked me up and carried me to a bench. It was like a fairytale – I felt like Sleeping Beauty and Maikel was my prince! Since then we’ve devised ways to cope with my condition. During emotional goodbyes, Maikel holds me so I don’t collapse, and he stops my head lolling while we kiss. We currently see each other once every five weeks, but in March he’s moving to the UK. Knowing that exercise helps me control my sleeping episodes, I’ve recently set up my own personal training business, so I’m finally getting somewhere with my life. As far as doctors can tell, I’ll face this struggle forever. I will never be able to sit down for dinner without falling asleep, but now I’m on medication that stimulates my central nervous system and minimises how many episodes I have per day. One day Maikel and I would love to start a family. I’ve read that it’s possible to have children, but I’ll have to come off my medication and I have no idea what might happen. But at least I’ve found my Prince Charming, and I’m determined to treasure every second with him! Jess King

fter strutting down the catwalk for Chanel, wowing as a Victoria’s Secret model and being made an ambassador for legendary skincare brand Estée Lauder, it’s safe to say that Kendall Jenner is something of a beauty icon. However, the 21 year old hit the headlines recently when she was snapped in New York suffering from a nasty breakout of spots, proving that acne really can affect anyone. Kendall has admitted her skin troubles have made her self-conscious in the past, saying, “I felt like such an outcast. When I spoke, it was with my hand covering my face.” Acne is a common problem among adults. According to, the numbers of enquiries about acne treatments in UK and Irish clinics have shot up by 200 per cent in the past few years. But is it really possible to banish acne? new! speaks to the experts to learn how we can purge ourselves of pimples once and for all…

What is acne? “Acne is a skin condition characterised by red pimples on the skin, especially on the face, caused by inflamed or infected sebaceous – or oil producing – glands,” explains dermatologist Dr Ross Perry of “It’s the most common skin disease and people of all races and ages can get it, but it’s most prevalent in teenagers and young adults. An estimated 80 per cent of all people between 11 and 30 have acne outbreaks at some point in their lives.” Depressing stuff! The British Association Of Dermatologists says acne is starting to affect people earlier in life, and lasts longer, while statistics from the Acne Academy show about one in ten people suffers from adult acne – where the condition affects people over the age of 25 – with more than eight in ten cases occurring in women.

What causes it? “Unfortunately, the cause of acne is often unknown, but the build-up of a bacteria called

propionibacterium acnes plays a part and often the cause isn’t just down to one thing,” says Dr Perry. “Other triggers can include hormonal changes that can cause oil glands to plug up more often, greasy make-up, poor diet, air pollution and stress.”

Who is most susceptible? Acne can strike at any age, but hormonal fluctuations mean teens are most commonly affected. “Most people assume that blemishes only occur during their teenage years, yet due to stress, hormonal changes, diet and environmental factors, blemishes are becoming more frequent in women in their twenties, thirties and postmenopause,” says dermatologist Dr Howard Murad, founder of Murad skincare. “Teenagers tend to have breakouts on the forehead, nose, cheeks

Poor Char Snapchatted her acne woes recently, drawing a big red arrow pointing to her spots. She even labelled them “bad”.

Can we really beat acne? “Good skincare practice is key,” insists leading skin expert Dr Jonquille Chantrey. “Don’t over-scrub skin – use appropriate exfoliation techniques to ensure dead skin cells are sloughed away to stop blockages.” Much has been written about the acne “wonder drug” isotretinoin, commonly known as Roaccutane, but reported side effects include everything from dry skin, muscle pain and nosebleeds to depression and birth defects. There are plenty of over-the-counter products you can try first, though. “There are cleansers that contain mild salicylic acids or hydroxyacids,” says Dr Perry. “Stronger treatments can range from topical or oral antibiotics and degreasing products, such as benzoyl peroxide and azelaic acid, to vitamin-A creams to help

became. Desperate and anxious, I was even prescribed antidepressants. While my friends’ acne cleared up by their late teens, mine remained. Feeling like a freak, I became antisocial and depressed. I trowelled on make-up whenever I went out, but felt too self-conscious to go on dates. Finally, at 20, on a rare night out I met my first and only boyfriend. He used to have bad acne himself, so he understood what I was going through. I’d heard that the acne drug Roaccutane caused dry skin, dry eyes and cracked lips, but when my dermatologist told me it was my last hope I knew I had to try it. I started in August 2015 and my skin did improve, but two months later I was rushed to

prevent the acne formation. Other treatments include skin peels and laser treatments.” Ask your GP what might work best for you.

How else can we prevent it? “Diet and emotional self-care play a big part in how skin will look and feel, so try to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables that are packed with hydrating, anti-inflammatory and nutrient-packed agents to help your skin and body look and feel its best,” says dermatologist Dr Adam Friedmann of The Harley Street Dermatology Clinic. “Always cleanse your skin before bed. Without proper cleansing, bacteria can survive and thrive on your skin, leading to breakouts. And regularly clean make-up brushes and pillowcases to wash away bacteria,” he adds.

hospital, doubled over in pain. I was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, a rare side effect of Roaccutane. As a result I had to stop taking any anti-acne medication and my skin soon erupted like a volcano. It was so bad I’d wake up with blood all over my pillow from the burst pustules. I felt desperate. But in June last year my mum read an article about a new acne treatment called Sebopure. It contains an ingredient derived from wild mustard leaf oil that’s supposed to decrease the amount of sebum, or oil, that the skin produces. She ordered some and I started using the face wash and cream morning and evening. Two weeks later the soreness in my skin had eased. Soon

LORDE Spot-prone singer Lorde Instagrammed a photo of herself captioned, “In bed in Paris with my acne cream on,” and later encouraged her followers to remember that “flaws are OK”.

Dermatologist Dr Gary Goldfaden says picking spots or touching the face should be avoided to prevent the spread of bacteria. “Always wash after working out, as sweat left on the face and body is a breeding ground for bacteria,” he says. “And avoid foods that cause inflammation in the body and skin such as fried food, sugar, fatty meats and alcohol.” Although acne isn’t life-threatening, British Skin Foundation spokesperson and Consultant Dermatologist Dr Anjali Mahto says we shouldn’t underestimate the damage it can cause. “It can lead to scarring in addition to having profound effects on self-esteem,” she says. “It’s important to deal with these early to prevent lasting physical and psychological effects. As it’s largely still viewed as a teenage disease, it can lead to social anxiety in adult sufferers who feel they should have grown out of it.” Caroline Benjamin

afterwards, my skin started looking better, too. Unbelievably, by September my skin had cleared. I was ecstatic. These days I use the wash twice a day and the cream once or twice a week. I’m on no other acne treatments and my skin is as close to perfect as I could dare to wish for. I can happily go out without make-up on. The inflammation has gone and even my acne scars look less red. Meanwhile, my confidence has gone through the roof. I’m still with my boyfriend and I’m socialising again. I’m determined to make up for all the good times I missed when I was hiding away from the world.

LAUREN This week, Lauren talks Valentine’s Day plans with Joey and reveals she’s joined Snapchat…

Follow my Joey!

I set up an Instagram account for Joey last week. I run it for him because I thought it would be good for him to get a bit of a following going and have photos for him to keep and look at, ready for when he comes out. You know when people set up Insta for their dogs and babies? Well it’s kind of like that because he can’t actually run it himself from prison! And before anyone asks, Joey obviously knows I’ve set it up. He told me I could do what I want. He’s chilled. He’s already had about 5,000 follower requests – people are obviously nosy!

I got quite a response to my belfies on Instagram last week. Even Joey’s sister Charlotte commented, saying, “Easy now,” with a horny devil emoji. In one where I’m posing in my white pyjamas, someone commented, saying I had a fake-tan fail, but you can clearly see it’s a shadow from the plant in front of the light. I couldn’t resist setting them straight – after all, I do know how to fake tan! I also posted one of me in a white robe and pink knickers and was asked why I took it down. There’s no reason – I took loads and just put up a better one. And for the record, I didn’t Photoshop any of the belfies. They’re not that amazing! They could actually be better if I wanted them to be.

CATCHING UP WITH KATIE Last week, a magazine reported my pal Katie Price reached out to me on Instagram, saying she misses me and had lost my number. I sent her a direct message that day and she sent me her number, so I rang her and we had a good chat. We were both a bit drunk at the time and then my battery died, so I messaged her the next day and said we have to arrange a date to meet. There has been no falling out – we’re just both so busy at the moment. I need to make the effort though.

Lady Gaga was body shamed after her performance at the Super Bowl. Trolls claimed she had a pot belly and wasn’t fit enough, but she hit back on Twitter saying she’s proud of her body. So she should be! She was performing for God’s sake – of course she’s going to have creases when she’s dancing and bending over. It doesn’t matter how skinny or ripped you are – trolls will be trolls!

OUR LOVE’S ETERNAL Happy Valentine’s everyone! At the time of writing my column, I’m planning on spending the day with Joey, which will be lovely. I obviously got him a card – he always gets cards from me – and he can buy them in there for me. He always sends me flowers and gifts, too. We’ve spent every milestone holiday together since we started dating – birthdays, Christmas, New Year. The only one left is Easter. I was pictured wearing a diamond ring on my wedding finger when visiting Joey last week. He bought it for me at Christmas. It’s an eternity ring, which is why I like to wear it on my left hand.

Speaking of social media, I’ve finally joined Snapchat. You can find me on Laurenrgoodger. It’s not something that I’ve been into before, but it’s really good fun so far. I’m enjoying all the emoji filters but I think too many people are obsessed with that filter with the butterflies and flowers on their heads. I like the fact that I can talk to the camera and explain things that are going on in my life. I also like the fact that what I post disappears and isn’t there forever.

‘Please keep Mum’s evil killers behind bars’ Twelve years after her mother was murdered, Stephanie Davis is fighting to keep the men responsible in jail

tephanie Davis adored her mum Shirley, who had raised her single-handedly. She’d given Stephanie, now 32, and her little sister and brother a warm and loving home, bringing them up surrounded by laughter. But one awful night in 2005, the unthinkable happened. Shirley was brutally murdered by two brothers who were known to the family. Stephanie, who was 20 at the time, was devastated. Here, the trainee teaching assistant from Cardiff tells new! how she’s now

It was 12 years ago that my darling mum, Shirley, was brutally murdered, but it still feels like it was yesterday. It’s like a nightmare I’ll never wake up from. Mum was killed by two brothers who knew our family. I’ll never understand it, and with every year that passes I miss her more. Bringing up three kids by herself can’t have been easy, but my dad wasn’t on the scene and Mum seemed to manage it with ease. My siblings, Melanie, now 29, and Harry, now 25, and I adored her. The four of us would sing along to The Shoop Shoop Song by Cher and laugh till our sides ached. Mum adored rugby and loved wearing her Wales shirt while watching matches at the local pub. Everyone who knew her loved her. I studied hair and beauty at college, and when I fell pregnant at 17, Mum couldn’t have been more supportive. When my daughter, Amy, was born in July 2001, Mum was there beside me to cut the umbilical cord. As she held her newborn granddaughter for the first time, my heart melted. I was a single parent from the beginning, but my own mother helped look after Amy while I worked part-time. I couldn’t imagine life without her. NEW-MAGAZINE.CO.UK

beyond recognition. Convinced they’d made a mistake, I asked the undertaker to uncover her hands. And then I saw the tiny “M” tattoo on her finger. It was the initial of Mum’s childhood sweetheart… I could barely breathe when I realised it really was her. “Who did this?” I sobbed. But all I could do was wait for the truth to unfold. Police questioned Martin, who was the last person seen with Mum, but he was released without charge. For weeks I lived from moment to moment, surrounded by devastated family, just waiting for answers. Incredibly, 300 people came to Cardiff Crematorium for Mum’s funeral. As Ave Maria played and her casket was taken away to be cremated, I wondered how I’d carry on without her. As the investigation continued, police were building up a picture of Mum’s last hours alive. Eventually, they told me they’d arrested two local men – brothers Stewart and Christopher Jones – for her murder. I nearly choked in shock – our family knew them and they’d even been to Mum’s for tea. CCTV footage showed Mum and Martin leaving a nightclub in Cardiff

in the early hours of Sunday morning, then Mum going back in because she’d forgotten her coat. Somehow they’d got separated, after which Mum met the Jones brothers and got into their silver Vauxhall Corsa. I can only assume they’d offered her a lift home. The car headed down a main road before disappearing into an alleyway. When it pulled out and drove off again, the two men were in the car, but Mum wasn’t. Her dead body had been left in the alleyway. A passerby found her at 5.30am. The men were both remanded in custody, and Stewart wrote me a letter from prison. “I don’t know why we killed your mum, it shouldn’t have happened,” he said. So he’d admitted the crime, but where was the apology? “How dare he write, but not say sorry,” I sobbed to Melanie.

SHOE IMPRINT In December 2005, the case was finally heard at Cardiff Crown Court. Listening to the evidence

was devastating. I heard Stewart, then 31, explain that after Mum got in the front seat of their car, an argument had begun. We’re not sure what it was about, but he’d started to throttle Mum from the back seat. Christopher, then 21, denied murder, saying he’d been driving. Then I heard that he’d pulled into the alleyway, lifted Mum out of the car and dropped her on the floor. He said he’d done nothing to help her because he was afraid his brother would attack him, but after her body was found, forensic investigators discovered an imprint CCTV captured Shirley leaving the club soon before she was murdered

from his shoe on her chest, proving he’d been involved in the vicious assault too. They also said her bruises were caused while she was alive. She’d been battered beyond recognition and, horrifically, almost every bone in her body was broken. They’d beaten her without mercy, then left her and driven off. Stewart Jones admitted murder and was ordered to serve at least 15 years in prison. Despite his denial, a jury took less than two hours to find Christopher guilty of murder too and he was jailed for a minimum of 13 years. I felt distraught. Nothing would bring Mum back, yet these killers would start their lives again once they’d served their time. To me, the sentences weren’t remotely long enough. Strangely, just as the verdict was announced, the sun burst through a window and shone on our family. For a second, it felt like Mum was there. As life carried on, not a day went by that I didn’t think of

Mum. I went on to open my own beauty salon and threw myself into bringing Amy up in a loving home. But every day I felt so empty. As the brothers’ release dates loomed ever closer, I heard Christopher would spend the last part of his sentence in an open prison. “It’s bad enough they’ll be out soon, but why should he have the freedom of an open prison?” I raged. I don’t hear much from the probation service so I’m still not sure exactly when they’re due for release, but I felt compelled to start a campaign to keep Mum’s killers locked up. I’ve already got thousands of signatures, but I desperately need more to keep those evil brothers behind bars. Family and friends helped me get the word out – one friend even had T-shirts printed with Mum’s photograph and “Justice for Shirley Oliver” written on them. The campaign made the local and national news. Melanie has a family of her own now. I speak to Harry often and if I bump into Martin in town we’ll have a chat. I’ve since have two more kids, aged five and three. Six months ago I decided I wanted a career change, to do something that would work around my children, so I began training to become a teaching assistant. I take my children, including Amy, who is now 15, to the places Mum took me – conker picking and a local castle she loved. But the grief will live with me forever. I miss her beautiful smile every day, but if I close my eyes I can still hear her saying, “Hello, love,” in the way she always did. It’s memories like that I treasure. Imogen, who has daughters Ariana, three, and 14-month-old Siera with her businessman boyfriend Adam Horsley, also tells us her biggest surgery mistake and why she won’t let her children be famous on social media like Katie Price and Peter Andre’s kids…

Imogen has toned down her exercise regime recently

I bought a triple pack and told my boyfriend I’d bought them for the girls – I literally ate three whole packs in two days. I didn’t even feel sick. Easily done though! Does Adam join in with your binges? No. He won’t see me being naughty because he’s at work until 7pm [laughs]. What’s Adam’s diet like? He’s Australian so he loves salad. His perfect meal is chicken salad and avocado. Crazy. That’s my worst meal. When we go away my favourite part about staying in the hotel is the breakfast – he cancels his because he’d rather stay in bed. I set an alarm to go down! Are you concerned about the girls growing up and worrying about their body image? Absolutely. I’d never let Ariana see me taking photos of myself in my bikini, which I do for work. She came to me recently and said her belly was really big. Maybe a child in her nursery said that to her. And a boy said to her on the street “fatty fatty”. I didn’t make a fuss. She’s got puppy fat. Will you let your children have Instagram accounts like Katie Price’s kids? No. I get that people want to build a career for their kids, but I just want my kids to enjoy their childhood. What if Katie Price’s kids didn’t want to be famous? The girls will make up their own minds whether they want to have a private life and be a nurse, or a teacher, or be in the public eye. Hasn’t Siera been doing some modelling? She did a Tesco campaign but she got that off her own back because I didn’t take her to the casting, her dad did. She’s already earned a nice bit of money for when she’s older. It’s not building her an Instagram account. You previously told us you were worried about how Ariana would take to no longer being the only child. Do they get along now? She’s like a mother to Siera. She’ll say, “Siera, you’re not allowed to do that, you listen!” Then she’ll say to me, “I’ve told her mummy.” Would you like to have another baby at some point? I say I’m done, and then I get moments when I’m like, “Adam, shall we?” And he’s like, “No.” I’ll have to be sly about it and say, “Babe, I don’t know what happened, but I’m pregs!” I could go again and have another girl, another princess.

With her boyfriend Adam

You’ve had a boob job. Will you have any more surgery? I keep saying I want to get Botox, but I wouldn’t have surgery. I made the biggest mistake ever by having a boob job. I wish I’d never had it done. Hopefully in the next two months [the implants] will be out. I hate them. Do you have any plans to get married? If Adam doesn’t ask me this year, that’s it. He didn’t ask me last year because I asked him not to. I wasn’t ready as my dad had just passed away and it was too emotional to walk down the aisle without him. Will you have a long engagement? No. I know what I want – we’re going to get married abroad, probably in Italy. It’s all in the bag, really. The wedding body will be an extreme diet… Well we think you look amazing already! Tell us about your latest Chasing Summer collection… I’m really happy with it. There are more colours – like dark red, beige and chocolate brown – and the pieces are low-cut, which is good for your boobs. Last year I didn’t put my all in because I’d just had Siera and my lovely dad passed away. It was hard to concentrate on it. This year I’m focused and excited. OLIVIA ADAMS

ROB: ‘I LAUGH AT SHARON’S JOKES BECAUSE I’M NOT Catastrophe duo Rob AN ASSHOLE!’ Delaney and Sharon

t’s our favourite cult comedy, and following the big bombshell at the end of the last episode (no spoiler alerts here, but… gulp!), Catastrophe returns to our screens for a third series later this month. For those of you not fortunate enough to have seen the show (seriously, where have you been?), it follows the lives of Rob and Sharon, a couple whose one-night stand results in a baby, a marriage and a whole lot of problems. We caught up with the writers and stars, US comedian Rob Delaney and Irish goddess Sharon Horgan, to talk about working together on the forthcoming series, their feelings towards Carrie Fisher, who was filming the show before she passed away in December, and why having twins will essentially ruin your life. Let’s hope Beyoncé and Amal aren’t reading…

WORDS: Sarah Morton

Thurs Feb 23, 10pm, Channel 5 Considering we’ve seen way more of Marnie Simpson, Chloe Ferry and Jordan Davies than we ever wanted to, you can imagine our horror at hearing they’re heading for the Sex Pod to discuss all things sex (not pods). But we’re pleased to report they won’t be getting jiggy on TV again, but rather learning some actually very informative stuff. In the first of the new series, the gang talk bedroom tactics, Big Brother’s Andy West asks some sensible questions about STIs and Alex Bowen and Olivia Buckland get candid about their love lives. We’re all ears.

Tues Feb 28, 10pm, Channel 4 Why do you think Catastrophe has been so popular? Sharon: I think people like to see terrible things happening to people who don’t necessarily work it out, but are still OK afterwards. Rob: Plus I’d say it’s because every episode is written by the same two people and one is a man and one is a woman. How does that work, then? S: We sit side by side in a dark office in London. We work from 10am until 4pm each day and eat lunch at our desks – always the same thing – because we like to make the most of our time together. Rob falls asleep at 2pm – it’s routine. R: We usually finish a script and think, “That’s brilliant,” then we realise that is isn’t really

Horgan dish the dirt on the new series…

brilliant at all and we have to rewrite it all from scratch. Your characters often laugh at each other’s jokes. Is that natural or scripted? R: When you watch a show like Friends – which I love – someone says something funny and the other person just stands there. That is so not real! In real life, you’d be doubled over with laughter. These are gags written by worldclass joke writers, people! If Sharon makes a joke, I laugh at it because I’m not an asshole. Sharon and Rob aren’t the stereotypical husband-and-wife roles we usually see in sitcoms. Was that your intention? R: We didn’t really feel like we had seen a marriage represented in a sitcom in

TAKE ME OUT CELEBRITY SPECIAL Sun Feb 19, 7pm, ITV Wow, those lucky ladies on Take Me Out sure have their pick of the bunch, don’t they? Why anyone would put themselves up for a date with Arg of all people is beyond us, but this week, TOWIE ’s resident sad sack tries his luck with 30 willing victims who will decide if they want fame – er, sorry, love – enough to leave their light on for him. Also making their way down the legendary love lift are former Strictly Come Dancing star Melvin Odoom and Olympic gymnast Nile Wilson, who’ll no doubt be hoping to find a buxom beauty to balance on his beam. Sorry.

a way that we found satisfactory. People are actually way more dynamic than the couples you usually see on TV. In real life, those sorts of people would end up in a murder/suicide. S: There’s nothing interesting in playing a stereotype, like an eye-rolling wife. Your characters never seem to learn from their mistakes – is that deliberate? R: We would rather the audience said, “I know what’s wrong with them,” than the characters finding some big resolution where we learn the moral of the story. They learn and grow but we never want to wrap things up too cleanly. We want every series to end with a question mark rather than a full stop. S: We like happy stories but you don’t need one at the end of every episode.

What’s it like working with your on-screen children? R: Our son Frankie is played by twins because of the laws surrounding children working. I used to be bigoted against stage parents – I thought it was wrong – but I’ve learned that when twins enter your life, your life ends. As a parent, it’s a wonderful thing for them to bring their kids to work and get a bit of a break. This was the last show Carrie Fisher worked on before she died. What was she like? S: We didn’t have her for very long in the first and second series. She flew in and did her bit over a day or two and, of course, we wanted to get to know her better. During series three, we wrote a bigger part for her so we got to spend some quality time with her. She was truly amazing. Carrie was part

of the gang and we feel very privileged to have worked with her. How did she come to play Rob’s mum? R: We were at the Attitude Awards and Carrie was there to present Graham Norton with a lifetime achievement award and her speech was amazing. Sharon turned to me and said, “What if she played your mum?” I was like, “Sharon, you’re crazy!” We decided to get in touch, though, just in case. I tried to tweet her but she didn’t respond, obviously, so I looked up her agent and sent the script for series one and it went from there. S: She was funny all the time and incredibly witty company and loved saying asshole-y things to everyone, but she was also just a kind, lovely, supportive woman. She’s greatly missed.

CORONATION STREET In the same week that a devastated Michelle says farewell to her tragic baby Ruairi, Leanne goes into labour with ‘Chelle’s partner Steve’s love child. What a tricky web these naughty neighbours weave. In true soap style, the birth is anything but smooth – and kicks off with an almighty row between Leanne and Toyah in a lift, which comes to a juddering halt just seconds before Leanne’s waters break. It then becomes a race against time – will Baby Battersby be born in a dodgy elevator, delivered by a terrified Auntie Toyah? We’ll give you three guesses. NEW-MAGAZINE.CO.UK

THE BRIT AWARDS 2017! Weds Feb 22, 7.30pm, ITV

STAR PERFORMERS Step aside, Lady Gaga. If the rumours are true, the mighty Katy Perry will be making her big comeback at the awards, performing some of her brand-new material. Katy, who is certainly partial to a Brit man or two (hello Russell Brand and Orlando Bloom!), is thought to be the big star signing after last performing at the ceremony in 2014. Little Mix, Ed Sheeran and The 1975 are also set to take to the stage, and Robbie Williams may have to stock up on the hand sanitiser – he’ll be belting out his greatest hits to celebrate winning the Icon gong.

Stepping down after two years at the helm, Ant and Dec were officially replaced by Michael Bublé, who was due to present the show. But following his three-year-old son Noah’s sad cancer diagnosis, the singer bowed out – though bosses haven’t ruled him out of hosting duties in the future. Cue reality TV presenting legends Dermot O’Leary and Emma Willis stepping up to save the day. We can totally see Derms spinning his way onto the main stage, as Ems attempts to evict an unruly celeb from the audience. Our money’s on Biebs.

THE BRIT AWARDS 2017 ALBUM Those friendly folk over at Brits HQ understand that a massive awards ceremony means nothing without the accompanying compilation album – so here it is, the definitive Brits 2017 soundtrack. To prove just how good last year was for music, the three-CD collection (that’s 63 songs!), generously features ten No.1 singles. Granted, you only need to sell about ten copies of a tune to get to the top spot these

ext Wednesday sees the good, the bad and the ugly descend upon London’s 02 Arena for the most important night in the UK music industry’s calendar. With the likes of Katy Perry and Robbie Williams expected to perform, it’s looking like the Brit Awards 2017 could be the best one yet. To celebrate, here’s all the vital info you need before the big night…

GUEST LIST GUYS Everyone knows the Brits are just a big excuse for music industry execs to pat themselves on the back and congratulate each other on making tons of money for their record companies. Usually that equals a massive yawn-fest, but when Simon Cowell happens to be one of the said bigwigs, it guarantees us a little bit of juicy goss at least. That’s because he normally brings some of his harem along, including his partner Lauren Silverman and exes Jackie St Clair and the bonkers Sinitta, who is always worth looking out for.

days, but let’s not nitpick. Stand-outs include Zayn’s instant classic Pillowtalk, Little Mix’s girl power anthem Shout Out To My Ex and comeback king Rick Astley’s glorious Keep Singing (seriously, don’t knock it till you’ve heard it). And while it may be all about the Brits, US artists get a look-in too, with Justin Timberlake and Selena Gomez flying the flag for our American counterparts. Epic.

Beyond all the glitz and glamour, this is an awards ceremony at the end of the day, but who’s going to walk away with the big prizes on the night? The late, great David Bowie is up for a posthumous award for British Male Solo Artist, but faces stiff competition from the living in the form of Craig David and Skepta. Meanwhile, Emeli Sandé is the bookies’ fave to take home the gong for British Female Solo Artist, unless Ellie Goulding snatches the crown. But British Artist Video will be voted for by the public – if you fancy a flutter, Calvin Harris featuring Rihanna’s This Is What You Came For seems to be a likely winner.

THE OH! ZONE Ex-TOWIE temptress LAUREN POPE has a lot of love for Blake Lively, though not so much for Tess Daly…

The Brits are responsible for some of the most controversial moments in showbiz. Who could forget Jarvis Cocker’s bum wafting while Michael Jackson belted out Earth Song at the 1996 ceremony? Or Ginger Spice rocking up in that Union Jack dress just a year later? Or the sickening moment in 2015 when Madonna went from hero to zero, by falling off the stage and almost strangling herself with her own cape? Well, naturally we’re keeping our fingers crossed for more of the same this year. Although with the likes of Coldplay and Emeli Sandé up for gongs, we fear it’s all looking a bit safe.

Have you ever binge-watched a box set? The latest was Downton Abbey. I started watching it about a month ago and I did it in about two to three weeks! On a Sunday, I watched probably five or six hours. And then I did The Missing and that was really good. Who’s not on TV enough? Ricky Gervais – I love him. Is anyone on TV too much? Maybe Tess Daly. Although I’m referring mainly to when Strictly ’s on! Are you more team Claudia, then? I love Claudia Winkleman! She’s very natural and warm, but things are a little bit more forced with Tess. What was the last book that you finished? The Lean Startup. It’s story after story about how to start up a business. If you could have your own X Factor-style panel to judge your life choices, who would you have on it? Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl, Victoria Beckham and Joe Wicks. Then you’ve got a good balance of people for different reasons. Good choices! Have you ever walked out of a film before the end? No, never. It really frustrates me when you go to a film with someone and they want to do that. I always see it through to the end, because I think it must get better. Who would play you in a film of your life? Blake Lively. I love her and Olivia Wilde – they’re super cool. I just love Blake’s style and her hair. She’s the hair queen! Is there a song that reminds you of a sad moment? I’m not a very emotional person. Even through heartbreak, I’m not the sort to sit and wallow in music. I’d probably put on some house music and get on with it!

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2 STARRING: KEANU REEVES, COMMON, RICCARDO SCAMARCIO RATING: 15 WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT? If you’ve seen the first film, you’ll know the drill: “retired” hitman John Wick (Reeves) is forced to go around shooting a lot of people in glamorous locations. This time he’s compelled to do a hit in Rome, which means a lot of dangerous Italians want him dead.

WHAT’S GOOD? It’s a stylish, action-packed watch with a few memorable set pieces, including face-offs and shoot-outs in decadent parties, Roman ruins and the subway. Common is a deserving enemy for Reeves’ monosyllabic Wick.

WHAT’S BAD? The body count is out of control, so if senseless violence leaves you feeling a bit sad and empty, give this a wide berth.

TOOTOOMOO he very generous portions of prosecco may have swayed the vote a little bit, but when it comes to bottomless brunches, this darling little pan-Asian restaurant provides one of the best we’ve had in a long time. From just £35 per head, you can have anything to eat or drink from the entire menu for 90 minutes – (it’s £45 if you dare to stay for two hours) – and there are plenty of options. We loved the flavoursome Thai green curry and the tiger prawn tempura dish was delish. Signature plates such as the salmon teriyaki and aromatic duck with pancakes also come highly recommended,

THE FOUNDER STARRING: MICHAEL KEATON, NICK OFFERMAN, JOHN CARROLL LYNCH, LAURA DERN RATING: 12A WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT? Ever wondered about the story behind McDonald’s? Look no further. Michael Keaton plays Ray Kroc, an ambitious salesman who starts working with the McDonald brothers in the 50s. His big ideas could make their little burger joint a huge business: but at what cost?

WHAT’S GOOD? This rags-to-riches story is a fascinating insight into one of the most famous companies in the world. Keaton is terrific – and often funny – as the ruthless, self-made Kroc, while Dern is brilliant as his long-suffering wife (isn’t she always long-suffering?). There’s suspense when he and the McDonald brothers clash, too.

WHAT’S BAD? This may be about fast food but, at nearly two hours long, there’s nothing speedy about the story-telling.

as does the aforementioned prosecco, which FOOD proved to be just the hair-of-the-dogshaped cure we needed on a lazy Sunday. There are several branches dotted around the capital, so get down there and sample some authentic Asian grub to kick-start – or indeed finish – your weekend in style. Oh, and if you’re intrigued by the amazing name, Tootoomoo was a little girl who cooked wonderful food for hungry giants in Asian folklore. Her legacy lives on.

SYMFUNNY NO. 2 Some of the biggest names in comedy and music are coming together at the Royal Albert Hall to raise money for Parkinson’s UK – and we couldn’t be more thrilled to get behind such a brilliant cause. The likes of Josh Widdicombe, Jack Dee, Katie Melua and Collabro will all be taking to the stage in London for the second Symfunny event on April 19, and comedian Josh seems especially excited to be doing his bit for charity. “I’m delighted to be performing for such a great cause,” he gushed, but added, ”I just hope my set isn’t too similar to what Katie Melua and Collabro are planning!” Personally, we’d love to see him belt out a classical tune or two… QFor tickets and more info, see

Talk us through what’s happening in this snap… Ore Oduba was taking a selfie and I was walking down the corridor at the time, so I jumped in on it – I didn’t want to miss out! It was taken before the live show in Glasgow. How many attempts did this photo take? One! With photos like this it’s about capturing the moment.

That’s what makes photos special – it’s spontaneous. But a selfie can take bloody hours! In the caption you said you’ve learned from amazing people. What did you learn from Ed?! [Laughs] A lot. He’s so smart. He’s helped me with public speaking and how to handle a crowd. I couldn’t have wished for a better partner. Will you continue to stay friends with Ed? Yes, of course. We will stay close, especially as it was my first year and Ed was my first ever partner. It was a really special partnership. I also got really close to his family. Hopefully he’ll take me to see a few more football matches [laughs]! We heard he’s put some weight back on. Is this true?! He’s still in good shape! I wouldn’t say he’s gained a lot, but the catering on tour is out of this world… But we do two shows a day and rehearsals, so we dance it off.

KATYA JONES VIA INSTAGRAM Fun part for the tour is that you have all these amazing people to learn from, have fun with, share the dance floor with!!!! Don’t know what we gonna do when it’s over...but for now let’s enjoy tonight’s show in Glasgow! #strictly #strictlytour #timeofmylife #dance #Glasgow #performer #dreamteam Were you rooting for Ore to win once you were eliminated? I was. He sold and performed each number and that was amazing to see. Definitely a deserving champ. Who else are you close to? We’re all so close. We’ve still got our WhatsApp group going on and we often all go out for lunch together. We’re all different ages but get on so great – Leslie Joseph is wild!
