Airnetz targets SMEs with low-cost charter planes Airnetz Aviation, a Mumbai-based business aviation firm, is seeking to expand the scope of business aviation globally by gunning for small and medium enterprises for its private charter service. Atul Khekade, co-founder and chief executive officer, Airnetz Aviation, told “We want to make business aviation come within the reach of a large number of small businesses. Currently they may be using business class in airlines, but for a small premium we want to make charter aviation affordable to them. None of these companies would be able to spend Rs 1 crore on other business models like fractional ownership. Business aviation makes sense when the audience is broader.” “Indian SMEs do not charter planes that cost Rs 3,75,000 per hour. Airnetz offers turboprops at Rs 65,000 per hour for 6 passengers. These aircrafts can fly to even the smallest airports. Chartering turboprops is the biggest growth market in India, increasing at over 50%. Big jets are only used by some billionaires in India.” Khekade said.

Ritesh Kakkad tying up with owners of small jets, which will then be marketed through Airnetz. Its fleet will consist of both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. Khekade said, “We have letters of intent from seven owners. The investment for the planes would be put in by the franchises. We would be putting in over $2 million in the business. The franchisees would have the option to go for very light jets (VLJ) to a small business jets. They would then be marketed under our brand on a revenue sharing basis with the aircraft owner.” Ritesh Kakkad, Co-Founder of Airnetz, said “Airnetz Charter Inc is our First Virtual Airline. We Control Online GDS (Global distribution system), Customer care, In-flight Service and Ground Service. We are also into innovative concept like where customers can book tickets per seat basis which are near business class tickets." With the online GDS booking system at you can have a quick quote between any two airports in the world and you can send a booking request as easy as you order Pizza”.

Airnetz also has the different business model of not owning aircraft but just marketing them. The company is creating franchisees by

The brief summary guide below is prepared after some independent research to assist those potential investors as to the differences and eligibility for both. M.I.L. Overseas Property Tips

Overseas Property Investments With the UK Property market affected seriously by the credit crunch, Asian investors are looking to invest in overseas property markets looking for good returns or simply purchase it as a second or retirement home. European countries are all suffering badly from the global downturn and it is only a question of time when the cycle is back into good years. The Indian economy is also feeling some effects from the global recession but the real estate market in India is still resilient and there are a lot of developments still in full swing. One cannot go much wrong if there is really a long term view on such projects. For many projects in real estates, location remains still the key to investment and when new projects are normally launched the entry level is much lower for investment since these prices are soft launch prices before developments are underway and on completion you begin to see appreciation of your real estate property grow two times or three folds even. India is a huge country with most regions encouraged to develop especially remote regions attracting investors. Other investors are mainly investing in places like Goa for retirement or holiday homes or the more developed regions for rental income. Paul Overseas Properties is a UK based company specialising in properties overseas especially in Cyprus, Dubai and India. Paul Overseas Properties has been set up specifically to provide services in relation to overseas properties and cater for the needs of the speculative investor or someone who just wants to have a second home be it for holiday use or a more permanent residence. Mr Naveen Paul who is a director of the company emphasised there are many players in the market these days so one has to be very careful in the selection process. His company provides a very personal service, different from others with full backup and after sales service. Some of the Services are listed above:

Baroda/Vadodara Investments (Baroda Correspondent - Pamela Dey) Vadodara formerly known as Baroda has in recent times shown a huge inflow of Industrial investments from various sectors with IT parks and commercial complexes around and there is now a growing interest of Real Estate developers, retailers and IT Giants moving in to build a better infrastructure.

The other key factors are the proximity of the city to Ahmedabad and Surat which are key investment areas and in India the property action now is no longer limited to Metro cities but slowly penetrating into the emerging smaller towns and cities which over few years will lead to India’s booming economy.

The Vadodara Urban Authority has recently signed MoUs with Real Estate developers to develop housing colonies and complexes with IT hubs and with such prospective developments taking place the Real Estate market in Vadodara is set to accelerate in times to come.

The establishment of large industrial units in a region automatically brings into existence a number of smaller enterprises. Vadodara is no exception and the city and the surrounding areas are today humming with industrial activity. The industrialisation of Vadodara has attracted entrepreneurs not only from Vadodara but also from all over Gujarat and the rest of India.

Vadodara is also famous for its palaces, parks and temples and the Gujarat government is working on a plan to develop this as a knowledge city attracting companies like Infosys and Satyam. Both residential and commercial properties in Vadodara have increased considerably over the last year or so. Vadodara is home to almost 2 million people, the beautiful Lakshmi Vilas Palace and the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (M.S.U.) which is famous for various departments, including the Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Technology, Management, Psychology, Social Work and Medicine streams. It has a high literacy rate by Indian standards and major industries include petrochemicals, engineering, pharmaceuticals, plastics and Forex. Famous companies such as Reliance Industries, Larsen and Toubro, IPCL, ONGC, Sun Pharmaceuticals and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation all have a strong presence in this city.

In line with the 'Knowledge City' vision of the Confederation of Indian Industry, Vadodara is gradually becoming a hub in Gujarat for IT and other development projects. Vadodara is also home to the Vadodara Stock Exchange (VSE).

WHY KARJAT? The Next Bollywood town of India Karjat is within Mumbai-Pune-Nasik triangle - It gets benefit of all development activities in all three places. Karjat-Neral-Matheran area is very picturesque with mountains all around and nature at its best. The winding road takes you through the hills, rivers and waterfalls with greenery all around. This is away from the hustle and bustle of the city and you are in the lap of pristine blooming nature.

Distance of Karjat from various places are as below. Mumbai Bandra - 67 kms Vashi - 48 kms Neral - 14 kms Panvel - 27 kms

Pune - 77kms Matheran - 20kms Khandala - 27kms

Karjat, an Idyllic town in the vicinity of Navi Mumbai is emerging as preferred investment destination. The sanctioned new International Airport at Navi Mumbai is approximately 27km away from the various Real estate projects. It is also a town slated to become the Bollywood town of India with N.D.Studio where “Slumdog Millionaire” was partly shot. Hollywood Film production companies have already started outsourcing their film producing to N D Studio, including Michael Douglas’s “Palace On Wheels.” This makes Karjat as a prime Real Estate Investment Destination. Developments like these with a new township, designed to deliver a superior quality of life and allowing those who live there to achieve the ultimate work-life balance with modern amenities. Many projects are underway for real estate development and one such good project already underway is the Sun Valley Desire located on the Panvel-Bhimashankar Highway & Karjat Kothimbe Road close to foot hills of Matheran. This project offers real scope for investments and growth with soft launch prices from as low as Rs 10 Lac onwards and Plot size 3,000 Sq Footage and above with easy instalment payment plans. A choice of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom Villas can be built for the investor, starting from Rs. 30 Lacs, inclusive of the plot. Each villa will have a modular kitchen, built-in wardrobes in all bedrooms and marble or wooden flooring. The investor will also have a personal lawn and car parking. The company will aesthetically design the villas to the investors taste, with regard to the colours, materials and finishes, so that the investor can enjoy modern living in the simplicity of nature.

REASONS TO INVEST IN KARJAT: • A Mumbai suburb in the near future, with the upcoming development. • Local trains to Karjat - Currently Karjat and Neral are linked by the local trains via Thane and Kalyan and there are direct trains from VT to reach Karjat. Railways have built new track between Panvel and Karjat which is being used by Passenger and goods trains. A local train service is expected to start shortly. Once this starts Karjat will become suburb of Mumbai and people working in other parts of Mumbai/ Navi Mumbai will start staying there as travelling time will reduce to a great extent. • Sanctioned International Airport at Panvel - It will be around 27kms from Karjat. The impact of business boom due to airport will certainly be felt at Karjat. The demand for housing in nearby areas is bound to go up sharply. • Three SEZ (Special Economic Zones) near Panvel will be around 20 kms from Karjat. Again the business boom will have impact on Karjat and its housing needs. • Santioned Trans-harbour link of 22kms between Sewri and Nhava Sheva (near Panvel) will reduce the distance and driving time to Karjat substantially. • New Panvel-Neral-Bhimashankar-Pune state highway-Currently Panvel to Neral is around 40 kms and the route is circuitous. Another highway is being constructed through, which will reduce the travelling distance and time by almost half • A 5 star hotel, an international standard Golf Course is being planned in this area. • Karjat area has been declared as Green residential zone. • Excellent weather throughout the year. • Largest Railway terminal is being built at Panvel to cater to traffic towards Pune and South India. • Film industry shifting towards Karjat - The largest studio in Asia, N. D. Studio, in Karjat is where “Jodha Akbar” and the TV series “Big Boss” was shot. Some big industrial houses are investing large amounts in studios around Karjat. Few other domestic and international film companies are planning to set up studios. • Tourist locations - Many tourist places like Matheran, Khandala, Lonavala, Bhimashnakar Temple, Malsej Ghat, Alibaug beach. • Price appreciation - The land prices of Karjat has appreciated sharply in last few years. The supply of land is reducing and the scenario is likely to continue due to the factors listed above.

Traditional Chinese Medicine - Acupuncture Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a complete health system comprising of herbal remedy, acupuncture and acupressure (massage and reflexology). It considers the human body as a holistic whole and the Chinese medicine has its own comprehensive theories: Yin Yang, Five elements, Viscera and Bowels, Qi and Blood Fluid, Channels and Collaterals, Pathogenic factors as well as unique therapeutic methods. Emphasis is more on balance between mind and body with prevention of disease using TuiNa massage, Qigong moxibustion and healthy diet practiced as part of the treatment in curing and preventing the disease. Acupuncture from East to West Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of healing in the world, beginning in China thousands of years ago. It remains the primary source of treatment in Asia. Acupuncture has rapidly become an accepted treatment alternative in America and in UK Acupuncture has been in the national news recently also as an effective therapy to cure many ailments. Nowadays, in seeking an alternative way to cure disease, to avoid side effect of conventional medicine, to obtain a better life or to maintain an optimal health, people start to choose acupuncture. As NIH (National Institute of Health Consensus in Acupuncture in 1997) consensus indicated: “One of the advantages of acupuncture is that the incidence of adverse effects is substantially lower than that of many drugs or other accepted medical procedures used for the same condition”. Recent reports indicated acupuncture and Chinese medicine is becoming more and more popular in this country.

The therapy is to insert fine sterilized needles in the strategic points of the body, ears, scalp, abdomen, hand, and feet to stimulate invisible channels of energy running beneath the skin. By activating the body’s own healing mechanism, the magic needles can help clear pathogens, stop pain, build up energy and improve many other physical and mental conditions. The Chinese acupuncturists have used this therapy successfully in treating many conditions and the treatment can be surprising gentle whereby you only feel a mild sensation when the needles are inserted.

Medical Tourism Recover then Discover… Medical tourism has attracted a great deal of attention in the UK press recently. If you are considering going abroad for surgery or treatment then you may find medical tourism of great interest where after your treatment whilst you recover then amidst exotic surroundings, you begin to discover tourism and enjoy a health break with facilities around you. Ten years ago virtually no one had heard of health tourism but now there is such a great interest with the main motivation for visiting any of the countries that offer such a concept is not the excellence of their care but cost savings also. The treatment abroad in recent surveys reveals increasing confidence among British people in standards of cleanliness and clinical efficiency of foreign clinics, alongside disillusionment about British hospital hygiene standards. Nearly 40 per cent of those questioned said that worries about hospital infections in Britain influenced their decision to seek treatment abroad. But an impressive 83 per cent said that they were satisfied with the surgery they had received abroad and only 5 per cent said that they were dissatisfied. Nine out of ten respondents were very satisfied or quite satisfied with their experience of treatment abroad generally. (The Times Oct 2008). Clinics and hospitals from all over the world offer packages and treatments in dentistry, cosmetic surgery, fertility treatment and conventional surgery, from heart bypasses to knee replacements, and many of them will be selling their services at the first Medical Tourism show to be held in London on 27th & 28th June 2009 organised from India by Indus Exhibitions under one roof with participators from India. The idea behind Medical Tourism is to aim to help tourists who visit India for any kind of medical treatment like organ transplant, implant, joint replacement or health surgery services by organising hassle free health travel and health treatment for them. All the basic needs of the medical tourists are taken care of by arranging best medical tours and treatment packages suiting their budget.

Why is India most suitable? India has one of the best qualified professionals in each and every field, and this fact has now been realized the world over. India has the most competent doctors and world class Medical Facilities. With most competitive charges for treatment, India is a very lucrative destination for people wanting to undergo medical treatment. Significant cost differences exist between U.K. and India when it comes to medical treatment. Accompanied with the cost are waiting times which exist in U.K. for patients which range from 3 months to over a year. Patients can’t wait for treatment by the National Health Service but also can’t afford to see a physician in private practice. For others, becoming a medical tourist is a chance to combine a tropical vacation with elective or plastic surgery. With world class healthcare professionals, nursing care and treatment cost almost one-sixth of that in the developed countries many foreign nationals are tempted to make a trip to India. According to experts their numbers are growing at 30 % per annum and by 2012, medical tourism will generate $ 2.3 billion annually. According to a CII-McKinsey study, medical tourism can contribute Rs 5,000-10,000 crore additional revenue for up-market tertiary hospitals by 2012. A two-year study by US based healthcare researchers Deloitte Centre for Health Solutions revealed there’s always been an inflow of patients from neighbouring countries and West Asia, but now there’s a significant rise in patients from the US, UK and Europe. Some tips: • Do as much research as possible. Read all you can and talk to people who have had surgery abroad. • Compare the costs, credentials and services of clinics. Ask how they measure success rates. • Ask to speak to former patients. Good clinics will allow you to do this. • Question the clinic on possible complications. If you are having cosmetic treatment, ask to see before-and-after pictures of other patients. • Check the qualifications of the doctor or Surgeon. Find out the requirements in the country where the treatment is carried out. M.I.L. MatchMaker • 13 ®

M.I.L. Finance Tips

MONEY MATTERS… BEAT THE CRUNCH! Bust, Crunch, Crisis, Recession, Inflation, Stagnation – what should you be doing to survive the latest financial turmoil? Simple, the same as what you should have been doing when enjoying stable, growing or booming times! Financial Planning is a strategic activity for life, not a one-off deal arranged by a salesperson. How to prioritise the goals of lifelong financial planning? try looking at it through a PRISM: P = Protection R = Retirement I = Investment S = Savings M = Miscellaneous

Sanjeev Shah Retirement Isn’t that something that only happens to old people? Basic state pension (currently £95.25 per week) would easily cover…erm…yes, the answer’s not a lot for most people. Anyway you’re young now, need to live and can’t afford to be putting money aside – the kids will be more than delighted to help out if you fall on hard times. Plenty of time to make up shortfalls later in life eh?

Protection Life assurance is generally speaking, cheap – great so most people have some – do you?

Well, saving £100 per month (ignoring all tax reliefs) from age 23 for just 10 years and then stopping, growing throughout at a rate of 6%, gives a pot of £106,804 at age 65. To get the same size pot, also growing at 6% by investing for 20 years (so twice as long!) from age 45, requires a monthly saving of £230 (and more than double the amount!). Makes sense, does it?

However you’re more likely to suffer from heart, stroke or cancer and survive (!) than to actually die from any cause if you’re a working adult, so you’re insured of course? No?

Investment & Savings If life is for living, do you have any goals or ambitions that might need money, perhaps lots of it and either now or in the future?

What if you need to care for someone full time? Up to £119.45 per week for Disability Living Allowance if entitled, you may receive up to £53.10 per week as Carer’s Allowance. So are spouse and parents covered?

Rather like retirement, things like holidays-of-a-lifetime, spoiling grandchildren, starter home deposits for children, school & university fees, emergency / rainy day funds etc are more easily handled the earlier you start.

You’re even more likely to face some lengthy time off work due to any number of causes such as stress, musculo-skeletal pains than to contract heart disease, stroke or cancer – got good cover from your employer?

Miscellaneous Always stay on top of spending – live within your means & shop around to lower the cost of any borrowings (long term as well as short).

Or why not rely on the state (currently up to £95.15 per week for Employment and Support Allowance)? So you’re insured of course, and if so you’ve taken Waiver of Premium as a benefit? No?

Make sure potentially expensive losses e.g. to house or contents, are well covered by good policies – cheapest is no use if the claim is denied!

Not going to be made redundant? That’s good, because you may only get Jobseekers’ Allowance paying up to £64.30 per week and there’s limited support for mortgage interest relief if you qualify.

Legally minimise tax liabilities to leave more money in your and your dependents’ pockets through thoughtful tax planning that uses reliefs, allowances and tax-exempt vehicles where appropriate.

Other state benefits are available, further conditions are likely to apply and the above is not intended to be exhaustive nor specific.

For truly objective, independent, ongoing and professional Financial Planning, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

THE POINTS BASED SYSTEM Priti Patel Immigration is once again in the headlines. There is increasing pressure on the Government to control migration into the UK. The Government is under pressure to limit the number of Non-EEA nationals entering the UK especially in this economic climate. As a member of the European Union, UK cannot regulate the number or selection of nationals from the EEA area entering the UK. It is understood that the large influx of eastern European workers in the UK, will be able fill many of the employment posts in various sectors, including the hotel and catering industries. However there are certain posts which cannot be filled by eastern European nationals and an employer will have no choice but recruit from overseas if no resident worker is available. The New Points based system which has gradually been introduced is a way of controlling immigration to the UK. The Rt. Hon. Jacqui Smith M.P., Secretary of State for the Home Department said in February 2008 “The introduction of our Australian-style points system will ensure that only those with skills the country needs can be able come to the UK.” The Purpose of the Points based system The System is supposed to make migration to UK easier to understand and use, but only time will tell if this system has achieved its purpose. There were 80 routes available previously for entry to the United Kingdom be it for study purposes, to work or to train. The new points based system covers most of these routes. There are five tiers with different conditions, entitlements and entry-clearance checks. The first of the new system, Tier 1, was introduced on 29th February 2008 Tier 2 was introduced in November 2008 and Tier 4 March 2009.

Points are awarded according to objective and transparent criteria for all tiers .Those applying will need sufficient points in order to gain entry to the United Kingdom. More responsibilities for employers under TIER 2 The category relevant to employers who recruit staff from overseas is Tier 2. The Government is of the view that as employers and educational institutions benefit from overseas migrants they ought to take on the responsibilities associated with migration. Licensed Sponsorship and Compliance Under the new system employers are required to firstly register as a licensed sponsor before they sponsor a migrant from overseas. The employer can register on line to be become a sponsor by completing an application form. The Border Immigration Agency will carry out checks before deciding to grant the license. The BIA will then issue an A rate or B rate license to the employer. The Sponsors must comply with certain duties. They must also keep proper records of the migrants they have sponsored, including contact details and soon details on the migrant’s ID cards. Now that Tier 2 is live the message to all employers is to ensure that you have proper procedures in place in your business including your record keeping ,recruitment process employment and tax obligations .Ensure that you carry out the necessary checks when employing non EEA nationals . These verification checks are a must in order to avoid heavy fines. Any records for non compliance may affect your license. A restaurant in North London was recently fined £30,000 for employing illegal workers. M.I.L. Legal Tips

Business Assets and Divorce Divorce is seldom an easy business, but the problems are compounded when there is a family business involved. The division of the spoils has traditionally been the subject of a great deal of argument, but recent cases have at least clarified the thinking of the highest judges in the land. The leading case, which was decided in the Lords, involved a Mr and Mrs White, who were farmers. The ruling established the principle that there has to be a good reason for the division of assets to be unequal. Unequal splits of joint business assets can be proper in some circumstances. For example, in a case in which the husband’s business did not have sufficient liquidity (ability to generate cash) to finance an equal split, Mr Justice Coleridge awarded the wife a 39 per cent share of the total assets, which included the family home. Because of the financial circumstances of the business, the balance of her settlement was ordered to be paid over a period of years. The judge commented that the “…old taboos against selling the goose that lays the golden eggs have been largely laid to rest…but if it is necessary to sell her, it is essential that her egg-laying abilities are damaged as little as possible in the process.”

Ritu Sethi In a more recent case, a husband who argued that his ex-wife’s settlement should be reduced, because she had taken up with a new partner and had a luxurious lifestyle, failed in his attempt. Similarly, a husband's attempts to persuade the court that the settlement required for his daughter should be reduced was rejected when it was considered that she would have to change schools, which was not in her interest. The needs of the child, not the father, are paramount in such cases. One important factor in the division of 'marital assets' generally is the relative contributions of the two parties to the creation of the assets. This need not be direct, as a 'stay-at-home' spouse can be awarded a substantial proportion of the assets if they were instrumental (ie by supporting the 'wealth creator') in the creation of the family's wealth. Where there are no 'surplus assets', the courts will look first to the housing needs of the parent who looks after the children, with any additional assets being fairly apportioned by reference to the needs of each party and their ability to provide for their needs. M.I.L. Bridal Tips

Hot Summer Weddings 2009 is forecast to have one of the hottest summers that we have seen in a long time. Asian weddings are usually during the summer months so it is important to able to still look cool, calm and fabulous during your big summer wedding. Maintaining a look can be difficult, so here are some tips to help you whether you are the bride, groom or are a guest at a summer wedding. Asian weddings are always very bright and colourful but unfortunately not ideal for the hot weather. Our clothes are usually heavily embroidered. This along with the jewellery can make for a very uncomfortable day. This also applies to the men. These days even the men have to dress up in heavy outfits and even jewellery and sometimes even make up. Yes I know that’s a bit of a shocker but its true. However the good news is that you can make sure that even in the heat you can keep your cool whilst still looking good. TOP TIPS 1. Make sure that your outfit fits well and if possible is slightly loose. This will allow your body to move without too much restriction and allow you to breath. (some peoples bodies get a little swollen in the heat) 2. Make sure that you choose a good antiperspirant and deodorant. (nobody wants a smelly bride or bridegroom) 3. Try the outfit and jewellery on a few days prior to the big day to make sure that there are no bits that are irritating the skin. If you find that there are bits that are irritating you may wish to sew some material or plaster where it does irritate your skin. (red patchy and itchy skin is the last thing you want to deal with on your wedding day)

Seema Ladwa

4. Ensure that your make up artist can apply the make up and waterproof it. Waterproof mascara is a good idea. The top layer of the make up should be a loose powder. This will absorb any moisture. 5. Carry a loose powder compact to touch up any parts of the face that begins to shine. 6. Drink plenty of water. The heat will dehydrate you and your skin will loose its natural elasticity. 7. If you suffer from hay fever the take an antihistamine on the morning of the wedding day. This will help prevent watery eyes and red noses. (nothing worse than a bride with red eyes and runny nose) 8. Keep a fan in the room whilst getting ready. This will prevent your skin from sweating during the bridal makeover. 9. Allow plenty of time to get ready. 10. Try not to loose your temper. Sometimes there are things that happen on the wedding day that is beyond your control. Remembers other can deal with it. (Nothing worse than a bride who is on the phone during her make over) Switch your mobile off and delegate. After all it is your big day. Enjoy it. So as you can see there are plenty of ways to help you through the heat wave summer that has been predicted. Whether you are the bride or the groom or if you are a guest all the tips can help you still look fantastic.

So look cool, calm & collected on your big day!
