The 128th Aviation Brigade works out to remember fallen soldiers By Senior Airman Delaney Gonzales

The 128th Aviation Brigade hosted a Remembrance Workout of the Day event at the 128th AVB Rehab Facility May 22. The event was designed to honor the service and sacrifice of fallen Army Aviation Soldiers through a series of high-intensity workouts. “Our goal is to participate in an hour hour-long workout. As we hurt and sweat, it reminds us of the hurt that is continuing from the family members who lost a loved one,” said Capt. Brandon Johnson, 128th AVB, 1222 Aviation Regiment chaplain. The workout was structured with five different stations. Each station had a unique workout that the Soldier had to perform. Groups of Soldiers rotated between the five stations. Participants received instruction on how to properly perform the exercise; then, a chaplain or a religious affairs specialist read the memorial biography of the soldier being remembered at that station. “We understand the exercise, we understand why we are doing the exercise and then we commit to doing the workout as an act of honor and remembrance to that soldier,” added Johnson. Some of the workouts performed during the event included kettle bell swings, box jumps, burpees and hand release push-ups. The exercises symbolized the importance of a national holiday, Memorial Day. “It benefits our organization and the whole Fort Eustis community by focusing on the true meaning of Memorial Day,” Johnson concluded.
