Summer semester Spanish Courses

The Universidad del Pacífico guarantees the academic contents of the courses, seminars and classes. At the end of the program, participants will receive an official grade transcript. We have an on-site coordinator in Cusco who orients students in everything they need during their stay in Cusco. This coordinator also arranges accommodation for students.

SUMMER IN CUSCO SUMMER IN CUSCO -TINKUYPATA The Summer Program in Cusco, the capital of the Incas, is a program that lasts 4 weeks. Students can choose elective courses taught in Spanish or English, as well as Spanish as a second language courses. These courses are for undergraduate and graduate students, who are interested in learning more about business and culture in Latin-America and Peru. Each course comprises 45 hours of class, equivalent to 3 local credits. The students can choose courses from one whole program or combine courses from different tracks. The summer in Cusco has two tracks, one in Business, and the other one in Peruvian Culture.

TRACK 1: Business Program

Dates

International trade and Policy in LA & Peru (3 Credits): This course introduces students to the study of international trade and trade policy. In this course students learn about the global trade environment and international business from the perspective of a developing economy. (Syllabus_ ITPLP)

Socioeconomic and political reality of Peru* 1 (3 Credits): This course is aimed to provide a space of knowledge, analysis, and exchange of experiences in relation to a set of social, cultural, political and economic characteristics of Peruvian society in the context of globalization and the information society and knowledge. TRACK 2: Peruvian Culture Program

Intermediate Spanish Grammar (3 Credits): This course is focused mainly on developing the communicative skills needed by students, so that they can efficiently perform in an academic context, both in written and oral form. (Syllabus, Intermediate)

An Introduction to Hispano-American Literature2* (3 Credits): Basic overview of Latin American Literature through the presentation of some of the classics and the most relevant figures of poetry and narrative in the continent, especially of the 20th century. (Syllabus, IHAL)

Advanced Spanish Grammar (3 Credits): The main objective of the Advanced Grammar class is to improve students’ knowledge of Spanish grammar, so that their oral and written expression is free of errors that impede or difficult communication. (Syllabus,Advanced)

A history of the Andean People (3 Credits): This course is a study of the Indian people of Peru from ca. 10,000 B.C. to A.D. 1700. It is intended as an introductory course to the history and archaeology of Peru’s Indian people for exchange students. (Syllabus, PCP)

**Calendar (Track2) Registration Fee: US$ 100 Tuition Fee: Students must choose 2 or 3 courses (6 or 9 credits) to participate in the program. 2 courses (6 credits): US$ 1080 3 Courses (9 credits): US$ 1620 Fees include course materials, official transcripts and participation in the extracurricular activities that are organized.

SPANISH IN CUSCO –TINKUYPATA Intensive courses of Spanish as a foreign language for students with little/none, intermediate or advanced mastery of the language. Students will take a placement exam upon registration and a second one upon arrival to Cusco to certify the level of proficiency of the Spanish language. Each course is worth 3 local credits or 45 hours of class. At the end of the program, students will receive an official transcript issued in English with the explanation of our academic system. This program also includes extracurricular activities.

Immersion Activities: Students will be encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities such as: Andean music, Pre-Columbine Art, Painting, and Quechua Language classes. These activities strive to preserve and pass on knowledge regarding the great diversity of the Andes culture in a creative and interactive way.
