arfield Re-2 School District is located 180 miles west of Denver, Colorado along the I-70 corridor and serves the Garfield County communities of Rifle, Silt, and New Castle. Surrounded by fertile agricultural lands, plateaus, and high mountains, the area enjoys a temperate year-round climate. Retail trade, agriculture, natural resource development, services and construction compose the majority of the district’s economic base.

The spectacular natural beauty of the surrounding area makes western Garfield County a haven for outdoor recreation. The 1.9 million acre White River National Forest offers a multitude of year-round recreational opportunities, and Rifle’s own Rifle Mountain Park has become a premier location for world class rock climbing. The Bureau of Land Management’s Roan Plateau offers top-notch single and double track mountain biking. For winter fun, alpine skiing opportunities abound with the world renowned ski resorts of Aspen and Vail just 90 minutes away, and more intimate, family skiing fun available with a mere 45 minute drive to Sunlight Mountain in Glenwood Springs or Powderhorn Mountain near Grand Junction. The Western Slope of Colorado is also known for its hunting and fishing. You can see trophy elk and the world’s largest mule deer herd thriving in the meadows. World class rainbow trout are often swimming in our gold medal streams.

Highland Elementary -

Highland Elementary is a 394 student PreK-4 school in Rifle, Colorado. • Highland is a new, well planned facility. • Highland encourages parent involvement in all aspects of student education. • The faculty is deeply committed to student achievement and works hard to reach all students. • Highland serves a population with nearly 45% ELL students.

Wamsley Elementary -

Wamsley Elementary is a 289 student PreK-4 school in Rifle, Colorado. • Wamsley Elementary School unites with the community to build confident educated self-motivated Students • Wamsley Elementary staff believes reading is the foundation for lifelong learning and the gateway to all knowledge • Wamsley Elementary staff is committed to our wonderful students and families. We strive to ensure success for each and every child. • At Wamsley Elementary all voices are heard and included in making decisions in the best interest of our students. • Wamsley Elementary provides an incredible amount of help, support, and encouragement for all staff, both at a building level and a grade team level. We believe in, and practice teamwork on a daily basis.

Graham Mesa Elementary -

Graham Mesa Elementary is a 364 student PreK-4 school in Rifle, Colorado that celebrated it’s first year of operation in 2009-2010. • Graham Mesa Elementary School believes in the vision of Garfield Re-2 School District; “To encourage, nurture, and challenge every student, every day!” • Our mission at Graham Mesa Elementary is: “The Key is Me, The Key is We !” • The staff at Graham Mesa Elementary works in strong partnership with colleagues, parents, and students to ensure success, safety, valued purpose, community, independence, and fun. • Graham Mesa is committed to do whatever it takes for the students we serve and work as a trusting family to provide an exceptional, memorable, educational experience.
