CV My name is Michael Owen Lewis and I reside in Cardiff, Wales. I have played the piano since the age of 10, inspired after hearing Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. I started composing soon after. My first composition was a song about Eid, which opened with a rap. Eminem I was not! I completed my A-Levels in 2007, gaining an A in Music. Since then I have continued to compose. I recently wrote some music for a short film, which will be aired on BBC Wales in March. The director is Grant Scicluna and it is an Iris Prize Production. As requested I have submitted two pieces. The first is 'A Moment of Madness', which is a short chamber work for clarinet, violin and piano. It is a fun little piece that does not take itself too seriously. The second work is 'In Blue', which is a piece for string orchestra and is in two movements. It draws on inspiration from Gershwin and Bernard Herrmann, but hopefully my own musical personality shines through. It is a composition which is traditional in a melodic sense, but there is a certain modern clarity to it; just strings helps to achieve this. It is a clean sound.
