In the world of SEO, there is a rather large set of skills that one must have so as to effect conversions or sales. Truth be told, we're all in this game to make money and that's the bottom line. Most bloggers and article marketers don't blog or write just because they LOVE writing or copywriting as some call it. We all have to make a living and for many, this is how they do it. But what separates those who can make a living online from those who can't make a living online? Well, for starters, let me just say that most don't make a living online. Earning income online is possible, but it is not as easy as many would have you believe. In fact, it is much more difficult than that. Unfortunately, many predators make their living telling others that they can teach them to make money in the virtual world by simply following or buying their "proven system" that guarantees fast cash, a tale that couldn't be farther from the truth. In my experience, making any money at all online entails the use of several skills including but not limited to: general webmaster skills such as acquiring domain names and hosting as well as setting up standard HTML sites or PHP scripts on them, effectively promoting your site through article marketing, press releases and forum marketing, building up your SERP ranking through aggressive backlinking from a variety of sources and PR levels...the list goes on and on. Don't get me wrong, all of the above items have the ability to give you a web presence, meaning that you may obtain a good SERP ranking for some nice keywords and you may even get you some nice traffic, but the question is: "Does that traffic convert?" Only one thing that I have found will get your traffic to convert and that is: convincing sales copy. If the articles that you produce are not coherent, well-connected in thought and purpose, grammatically correct with good punctuation and written in a way that is conversational and friendly, then all of the traffic in the world is useless to you. Many webmasters concentrate on the aforementioned skills without focusing on the most important one...copywriting. With the advent of content management systems such as Wordpress and Joomla, general webmaster skills have taken a back seat to copywriting. Making money online these days takes all of the above. Tons of quality content displayed on a well-designed easy to navigate website that is easy for search engines to crawl and index. Additionally, web promotion and branding as described above are in order. All of these things take work, effort and time. Good copywriting skills beget content that humans like and in the end, we are all writing for

humans...not search engines. Search engine algorithms cannot detect good sales copy, but they can observe the behavior of visitors on your site. If visitors land on your site and then immediately leave as per your Google Analytics, what does that tell search engines? It tells them one of two things...either they ranked the page for the wrong keywords, which they will gladly adjust, or that the copy on the page didn't hold the attention of the reader, so they bounced. Either way, a search engine will log this data and re-rank you accordingly. Bottom line...create high quality content. Get help if you have to. What you display on-page is your brand, even more than your name.
