Intrado concept set to star at Geneva 2013 While the new i20 WRC rally car and new driver line-up took centre stage at the Hyundai WRC press launch last month, journalists were also given a sneak preview of an all-new concept car that is set to appear at the 2014 Geneva Show. The Intrado is a striking new concept car that confirms the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation by previewing future developments for the brand. Built around a super-lightweight structure made from a mixture of advanced materials, the Intrado will be the first Hyundai concept car inspired by Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. Peter Schreyer, President & CDO of Hyundai Motor Group, commented: “Hyundai Intrado envisages a motoring future that encapsulates the efficiency and freedom associated with flying. I believe in the power of mobility to deliver emotional as well as physical connections and this car helps us find again the joy of discovery. Intrado shows that future cars can be relevant and exciting.”
Hyundai’s new WRC team ready to go in 2014! Hyundai Motorsport unveiled its full WRC team line-up at a special launch event in Frankfurt earlier this month. With less than a month until the 2014 season kicks off, the excitement and anticipation surrounding Hyundai’s return to the World Rally Championship is really starting to build. The team has set realistic targets for its debut season with the primary objective of finishing each rally event with two cars. The young team will approach each rally with the goal of accumulating
vital knowledge and data in order to strengthen its foundations for subsequent years. Going up against vastly more experienced WRC competitors, the team knows that it has a steep learning curve, but it certainly relishes the challenge and will be aiming to compete for podium places during the season. The launch also gave the brand the opportunity to reveal its full driver line-up. Heading the team will be Thierry Neuville. The young Belgian is widely regarded as one of the rising stars of the sport,
Hyundai’s fab four: Thierry Neuville, Dani Sordo, Juho Hänninen, Chris Atkinson
having stunned fans with his speed this season. Neuville will be joined by Spanish asphalt ace Dani Sordo and flying Finn Juho Hänninen – two vastly experienced drivers who have a proven track record in the WRC. Completing the team line-up will be Australian Chris Atkinson, a driver known for his excellent technical knowledge and ability to develop the car. The 2014 WRC season starts in Monte Carlo on January 14.

Dear Guy Service with a smile...
Our in-house Agony Aunt, Guy Pigounakis, is on hand to answer any questions and problems. Pop your question in the PR pigeonhole if you’re shy! Guy prefers not to answer work-related questions, he is better trained for social and health problems. Dear Guy, I just don’t understand women at all and wondered if you could enlighten me. Last Friday I went out for a few beers with my mates. To be fair, it turned into a bit of a session and I eventually got back late on Sunday night. When I got in, my partner was in a really foul mood with me. Quite clearly something must have upset her over the weekend, but it couldn’t have been me because I wasn’t there! Could you explain? Anonymous from Fleet Sales Guy says... I think what upset her was that you came back! Good to see the spirit of Jeff PB is alive and well in Fleet! Dear Guy, I’ve heard that you won a silver medal in the ’64 Winter Olympic Games in Austria for Team Greece in the ski jump. Now, I’ve never been skiing or snowboarding but have always wanted to give it go. I’m a bit scared of falling and I hear you can get padded pants to protect your rear-end. Is this true, have you ever tried them before and what brands can you recommend? Anon Guy says... You need have no concern, with a backside the size of yours there is no risk of you sustaining any injury. I am glad to say it’s been many years since I have had the need
to wear padded pants of any description. Bit of advice though, make sure you put them on the right way around. Dear Guy, I wish it could be Christmas everyday because it is literally the most wonderful time of the year. Roast chestnuts on an open fire and dreaming of a white Christmas, do you hear what I hear? But, here’s my problem. On the 12th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, a partridge in a pear tree. Do you have any good recipes that combines roast partridge and pears? Anon
Tony talks... Another year over, well almost...... A great result again smashing all previous sales records. For those of you who managed to get to the Dealer Conference our message was very motivational as we look to use 2013 as a great springboard into 2014. Our target for next year is 80,500. This is the first time we will surpass the 80,000 mark and creep towards the 100,000 milestone. We mentioned at the conference that we have “Great Product”, “Great Brand” and “Great
The boss reflects on a great year, ambitious targets for 2014 and the upcoming festive period Facilities”, but the key to being truly successful is having “Great People”. Dear Guy, How do I protect my plums in the winter? I’m growing them at my house, but I’m worried the ensuing front is going to kill them off, meaning that they won’t be ready in time for next summer’s harvest. Need your horticultural advice. Anon Guy says... Why are you growing plums? The number of people I’ve heard say that you need to grow a pear I just assumed that would be what you would be cultivating!

Hyundai shows Christmas spirit with vehicle loan to Crisis charity New i10 scoops major BBC Top Gear award The New Generation Hyundai i10 has been chosen as BBC TopGear Magazine’s ‘Bargain of the Year’ in the magazine’s prestigious annual awards. Category winners were announced in the latest January 2014 issue of the magazine with the New Generation i10 keeping company with several other illustrious and exotic cars, which made an impact in their sector during 2013. The judges voted unanimously in favour of the New Generation i10’s ability to provide customers with small-car buying and running costs without any of the associated compromises to refinement, comfort and build quality. Piers Ward, Road Test Editor, BBC TopGear Magazine, said: “Customers might want luxuries and gadgets, but they expect refinement. The i10 absolutely delivers on the value-formoney premise. It is definitely not a car with the build quality of a biscuit tin. The fit and finish is excellent, it looks great and is comfortable and spacious and for these reasons it stood out as a worthy winner.”
Hyundai is supporting Crisis, the national charity for single homeless people, by supplying 15 vehicles for use by its dedicated team of volunteers in London over Christmas. The charity is taking delivery of 15 vehicles (a mix of Santa Fes, i40s and i30s) as it prepares for the festive period – its busiest time of year. The cars will carry supplies and transport individual guests and volunteers around London, supporting the ‘Crisis at Christmas’ campaign which runs from 23 to 30 Dec. Leslie Morphy, Crisis’ Chief Executive, said: “Homelessness can be an incredibly isolating and lonely experience, but at Christmas it can be doubly hard. Crisis at Christmas is only possible due to the generosity donors such as Hyundai, who have come together to make this happen for more than four decades.”
In this issue, Head of PR Natasha Waddington tells us about her amazing trip to Laguna Beach in sunny California
Laguna Beach is southern California’s premier, coastal destination, located midway between Los Angeles and San Diego. A year-round retreat for art lovers, nature enthusiasts and beachgoers, Laguna Beach features seven miles of award-winning beaches. It is a surfers and diving haven and at the weekends, it is heaving with LA city-dwellers that grab their boards and head for the sand. Located on the Pacific Coast Highway - one of America’s most famous highways (probably second to Route 66) and one of the best driving routes – the roads were also filled with the cars of dreams – Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Jaguar E-types and AC Cobras to name but a few. Hyundai helps: 15 vehicles will help Crisis volunteers over the Christmas period
The ‘Crisis at Christmas’ campaign will see a dedicated team of 9,000 volunteers at Crisis consulting with 4,000 homeless people over the Christmas period, helping them to take their first steps out of homelessness. The
charity will also provide shelter and care for 800 of those, offering medical services and emotional support. More than 6,000 people spent some time sleeping rough in London last year, an increase of 62% over the past two years.

What to expect Laguna was so far from what I expected – I thought it would be the epitome of brash, over-the-top California glitz – instead it was one of the most charming places I have ever been. Very understated, calming and relaxed – although they seemed to go a little over the top when it came to Halloween! The beaches are breathtaking, the shopping is fantastic and you haven’t lived until you have eaten a breakfast burrito at the famous Orange Inn – established in 1931 as the first juice bar in California.
Why go there? We travelled out to the O.C for a friend’s wedding. They moved from the Midlands to the beautiful and always sunny Laguna Beach two years ago – is it any wonder that they don’t want to come back?!

Employee name: Helen Phillips Charity: Child Bereavement Website: www.childbereavement.org.uk In the summer of 2012 my two daughters lost their Dad in very sad circumstances. He left a huge hole in all of our lives – Sophie and Emma were just 8 and 5 years old at the time. We were fortunate to be put in touch with Child Bereavement UK. They help children through the grieving process and help families try to re-build their lives. With trained professionals, CBUK provide Sophie and Emma with a safe and incredibly caring environment, so they are able to talk about Daddy, and are helped to make sense of the feelings and emotions they have no idea how to deal with. The girls very much look forward to their sessions at CBUK, it is their special time. The people at CBUK, many of whom give up their time voluntarily, are amazing. They help thousands of children deal with a situation that no child should have to handle. Every child shows their grief in different ways and as a parent, knowing what is ‘normal’ behaviour for an 8 year old with attitude and what is ‘grief’ can be tricky! It’s been tough watching my girls go through the process and CBUK have also helped me learn how to help Sophie and Emma.
Boxing champ Nicola Adams takes delivery of a new Veloster before launching the latest Street League Academy in Liverpool
British boxer and Olympic gold medallist Nicola Adams, MBE, has joined Hyundai as a brand ambassador. Adams, who competed at London 2012 and clinched the first ever Olympic women’s boxing gold, will support Hyundai’s CSR initiatives, including its partnership with Street League and its own Skills For The Future programme. The 31-year-old boxer’s ambition and fortitude have marked her out as an inspirational character,
and the perfect ambassador to reflect Hyundai’s commitment to supporting youth education, training and employment prospects. Nicola, who recently took delivery of a Hyundai Veloster Turbo, commented: “Being an ambassador for Hyundai will allow me to gain first-hand experience of how its initiatives help young people who are not in employment or education, to develop crucial skills to support them in the job market,
The girls and I are so pleased that CBUK won Hyundai Donates. The girls raised £172 earlier this year in a sponsored run and want to continue to help raise money as a way to say thank you for the fantastic support we have received, and will continue to receive, as and when we need that little bit more help. Nicola gets stuck in with players from the Liverpool Street League Academy
and to better themselves.” Her first job was to launch latest Street League Academy in Liverpool – an initative directly funded by Hyundai Motor UK. Hyundai has partnered with Street League to focus on developing the skills and leadership abilities of young people through a unique programme of footballbased activities. Established in 2012, the partnership includes Hyundai’s donation of £50,000. Nicola will also be involved with Skills for the Future – another Hyundai-supported scheme that aims to bridge the skills gap between education and the demands of the job market, supporting 15-18 year olds in vocational education.
Comedy duo star in new Hyundai online videos Hyundai has created two new films designed to create an affinity with the brand through humour, while also explaining the main benefits of two of Hyundai’s key models. In each film, the audience gets to hear what a potential buyer is really thinking as a member of dealership staff talks them through one of Hyundai’s models. Comedian and star of Lead Balloon, Anna Crilly, is seen alongside the New Generation Hyundai i30 in the first instalment whilst BAFTA Award winner, Darren Boyd, plays the role of would-be customer alongside the New Generation Santa Fe in the second. Hyundai recently invited the world’s press to drive the New Generation i10 in Sardinia. HMUK also organised a lifestyle media programme themed ‘The Secret of Longevity’ and involved a tour of the Nuoro Province of Sardinia in the New Generation i10. The Italian island is a remarkable place and has been classified by scientists as a ‘Blue Zone’ where inhabitants regularly live long, healthy lives. Journalists stayed in one of the agrituristi farms hosted by the owner, Constantino. Although the accommodation was basic, the warmth of the hospitality captured the imaginations of the journalists.
