Ben,     th I  am  a  4  year  Masters  of  Architecture  student  at  the  University  of  Kansas,  and  I  attended  your  lecture   yesterday.    I  am  writing  in  hopes  of  securing  an  architecture  internship  position  for  Summer  2012.         I  am  confident  that  I  would  excel  as  a  member  of  the  MADE  team.    My  skill  set  and  variety  of  experiences   in  the  design  and  building  industries  have  prepared  me  to  become  a  productive  member  of  your  design   process.    I  have  a  passion  for  collaboration  and  I  am  eager  to  contribute  my  ideas  and  hard  work  to   develop  design  solutions  with  experienced,  high  achieving  professionals.       My  passion  in  architecture  lies  in  materials  based  design  and  detailing.    The  materials  chosen  help  bring   life  to  a  completed  project.    Texture,  color,  mass  and  form  work  together  to  inform  the  subconscious   experience  of  a  space.    MADE  has  used  its  understanding  of  material  composition,  connection  detailing,   and  light  modulation  to  build  a  reputation  as  one  of  New  York’s  most  innovative  young  firms.    I   particularly  appreciate  the  design  process  that  MADE  has  developed  over  the  past  9  years.    Through  its   careful  attention  to  detail  and  its  construction  of  full-‐scale  mock-‐ups,  it  is  clear  that  MADE  is  committed  to   both  its  clients  and  to  the  integrity  of  its  designs.    The  time  and  effort  spent  on  these  stages  of  the  design   process  are  evident  in  each  completed  project.         You  mentioned  in  your  lecture  that  MADE’s  current  process  typically  utilizes  a  group  of  three  employees   to  supervise  and  maintain  a  job  site.      When  I  asked  if  you  found  that  the  recent  integration  of  more   skilled  tradesmen  into  your  construction  process  had  inhibited  or  expanded  your  design  capabilities,  I  was   excited  to  hear  that  this  development  has  enabled  you  to  become  even  more  creative  with  your  designs.         MADE  prides  itself  on  achieving  innovative  solutions  to  design  problems  through  collaboration  with   clients,  community  and  colleagues.    I  have  researched  many  firms  around  the  country  and  I  am  certain   that  this  would  be  an  exceptional  environment  for  me  to  develop  as  an  architect.    With  my  passion  for   materiality  and  a  hands-‐on  approach  to  design,  as  well  as  my  skills  in  digital  and  physical  modeling  and   drawing,  I  would  excel  as  a  2012  summer  intern  at  MADE.    Thank  you  for  your  consideration.    I  look   forward  to  hearing  from  you.     Sincerely,     Michael  P.  Fahey   1137  Indiana  St.  Apt.  3   Lawrence,  KS  66044   402.881.1339   mpfahey@ku.edu
