The General Purpose Packages that you will study in the Standard Grade Computing Studies course are… • Word processing –for working with text • Database –for organising information • Spreadsheet –for working with numbers • Graphics –for working with pictures • Multimedia –for presenting text, pictures, sound and video • Desk Top Publishing –to layout pages of text and pictures • Web Page Authoring –for creating web pages • Internet – for working with the Internet • Expert Systems – for solving problems This still means that the average computer user will likely need several software packages – but far, far less than before. The one area of computing which does not use General Purpose Packages is games – they are all unique!
