entral Willamette Credit Union is not just a credit union.They are part of the communities they serve. They are committed to working hard for their members and equally hard for their communities by participating in a number events, many of them aimed at helping women and children.They are active in a variety of civic organizations, both financially and through in-kind services that benefit those in our communities. Over 1,000 volunteer hours were put to good use last year alone as employees spent time throughout the area making communities stronger and better places to live.

From Walk for the Cause to United Way and many other organizations and events in between, Central Willamette Credit Union steps up to the plate to help where and when they are needed. “It’s very important to support the community,” said RebeccaTolentino, the assistant vice president of Real Estate/Business Services. In early October, a group of 20 Central Willamette employees gathered at the Linn County Courthouse to participate in the Soroptimist International of Albany Walk for the Cause. Proceeds from the event support detection and treatment of breast cancer as well as providing support services for other diseases affecting women. The Central Willamette team is made up of a variety of employees - from tellers and underwriters to a number of support staff. Families of employees

Central Willamette also lends a helping hand to the Boys and Girls Clubs in the area. From teaching financial education to event sponsorship and planning, it’s not all about writing a check. During the Christmas holiday season, Central Willamette also helps by being the presenting sponsor of Celebration of Trees at the Albany Boys and Girls club as well as participating in giving trees. TheYMCA, Albany Public Schools Foundation, United Way, and SafeHaven also benefit from Central Willamette’s generosity. “We like to be part of something much bigger than ourselves,” Susie Plowhead said. Some staff members take volunteering one step further by serving on an organization’s board. The other major event Central Willamette participates in is Credit Unions for Kids (CU4Kids). “We have donated for over 20 years,” Tolentino said. Credit Unions for Kids is a collaboration between credit unions that supports the Children’s Miracle Network, which includes Doernbecher’s Children’s Hospital in Portland and Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield. In just over 20 years, Central Willamette and other credit unions who are part of CU4Kids, have raised $160 million.

United Way benefits from the generosity of Central Willamette employees who contribute through payroll deductions. For many Central Willamette employees, the United Way drive is much more than just a commitment. It is a way of life and a way to help their communities. Employees can often be found visiting SafeHaven Humane Society to help care for the animals there. Sometimes it might mean cleaning cages. Other times, it might mean sitting on the floor and snuggling with a cat or kitten or two. Central Willamette has five locations to serve their members and to serve their communities.
