LIFE & WELLNESS

Seated Tia Chi Mondays & Wednesdays, April 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23 5:30-6:30 PM Shelly Berndt, $40, MC201 Tai chi is a series of low-impact, slow motion movements strung together, each flows into the next. Tai chi differs from other types of exercise. The movements are gentle, and is suitable for almost anyone and can be easily adapted for anyone’s need, from fit to those with limited mobility. Tai chi is sometimes described as “meditation in motion” since it promotes tranquility through gentle movements - connecting the mind and body. Although tai chi is often described as “meditation in motion,” it might well be called “medication in motion” because of its growing evidence of this mind-body practice, and has usefulness in treating or preventing many health problems. With regular practice, tai chi can help improve health & flexibility, and help relieve pain & stiffness. It can also help improve quality of life, help decrease stress, help reduce high blood pressure, and help develop tranquility & inner balance. Seated tai chi can be suitable for Arthritis, Fibromyalgia & Diabetes as well, or for those who prefer practicing tai chi sitting down. As always, check with your doctor as you would with starting any form of exercise.

UPCOMING CLASSES B U S I N E S S & C O M M U N I T Y E D U C AT I O N Adult Mental Health First Aid Training Monday, May 14 8 AM-5 PM (lunch on your own) FREE, MC213 Sometimes, first aid isn’t a bandage, or CPR, or the Heimlich, or calling 911. Sometimes, first aid is YOU! Someone you know could be experiencing a mental illness or crisis. You can help them. You are more likely to encounter someone – friend, family member, coworker, neighbor, or member of the community – in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack. Mental Health First Aid teaches a 5-step action plan to offer initial help to people with signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social, or self-help care. Anyone can take the 8-hour Mental Health First Aid course – first responders, students, teachers, leaders of faith communities, human resources professionals, and caring citizens. Sometimes, the best first aid is you. Take the course, save a life, strengthen your community. This project was supported in whole or part, from state and federal funds received from the Division of Behavioral Health of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. To register, please call 308-534-6029 x152.
