In 2022, during an episode of the NBC hit show, "Law & Order: SVU," WTAE-TV's Sheldon Ingram wasn't there doing any interviews. He was in the show, as an actor. When the play, "Two Trains Running," the August Wilson classic, was being put on by Pittsburgh Playwrights The-

Black women Lee, Mayes cruise to election wins by Rob Taylor Jr. Courier Staff Writer

Congresswoman Summer Lee and state Rep. La'Tasha D. Mayes both had challengers in the May 19 Primary Election for the Democratic nomination for Pa.'s 12th Congressional district and Pa.'s 24th House district, respectively. But in the end, there really was no competition. The two Black women,

fully entrenched in the communities they serve, went on to landslide victories in the May 19 Primary Election. U.S. Rep. Lee won with 81 percent of the vote to challenger William Parker's 18 percent. As for state Rep. Mayes, she won with nearly 88 percent of the vote to challenger William Anderson's nearly 12 percent. Both of the challengers to Congresswoman Lee and state Rep. Mayes were Black men.

“I want to express my gratitude to all of the voters in my district who overwhelmingly gave me their support in this Primary Election,” said Rep. Mayes, in a statement to the New Pittsburgh Courier. “Thank you for your belief and confidence in my leadership and for sharing in our collective vision of progress and prosperity for District 24.
