About Summer Youth Programs
Since 1972, Summer Youth Programs (SYP) at Michigan Tech has offered students in grades 6-11 a variety of hands-on explorations focused on the needs of tomorrow. Our high-impact educational experiences provide an opportunity for students to experience college in a fun, engaging, and safe environment.
Each day, participants learn in our state-of-the-art labs and classrooms or in the field with Michigan Tech faculty, staff, and students. In the evening, participants can take part in activities, games, and outdoor adventures alongside exceptional young people from around the globe. Learn more at mtu.edu/syp 1,000+ 50+

Exploration Programs
Explore a topic that interests you by experimenting, making, and doing. Our weeklong Exploration Programs will have you both in the lab and out in the field learning from Michigan Tech faculty, staff, and graduate students.

The weekly cost of attendance varies by program and differs for live-in and commuter participants.

Pathway Programs
For over 50 years, generations of participants have been transformed and inspired through our Pathway Programs. Designed to allow for deep discovery of a particular area or career, you will develop foundational academic skills, forge lasting friendships with like-minded peers, and gain a better sense of personal and professional interests. An additional application is required.

Who can attend Michigan Tech Summer Youth Programs?
• Middle school programs—students completing grades 6-8 in spring 2023
• High school programs—students completing grades 9-11 in spring 2023
How do participants get to campus?
• Bus—An SYP Charter Bus is available in Michigan from Novi, Lansing, Bay City, or Gaylord
• Plane—SYP staff can pick up/drop off students at the Houghton County Memorial Airport (CMX)

Where and with whom do participants stay?
• Live-in students stay on campus in residence halls by gender.
• Gender-neutral housing options are available— contact us to learn more.
• 24/7 supervision is provided by trained SYP staff.
• Commuter students stay off campus with family.
What does a typical day look like?
• 7–9 a.m. Breakfast and walk to class
• 9 a.m.–Noon Academic immersion in classrooms, labs, or in the field
• Noon–1:15 p.m. Lunch and walk to class
• 1:15–4:30 p.m. Academic immersion in classrooms, labs, or in the field
• 4:30–9 p.m. Dinner and recreation time
