Pacific Northwest District: Key Club of Vancouver Westside !1
KEY CLUB 101 What is Key Club? KEY CLUB IS A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT-LED VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION SPONSORED BY KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL. MEMBERS OF KEY CLUB PERFORM SERVICE IN THE COMMUNITY WHICH RANGES FROM SHORELINE CLEAN UP TO ORGANIZING FOOD DRIVES TO PLANNING SERVICE PROJECTS. STUDENTS LEARN MORE THAN JUST GIVING BACK TO THE SOCIETY, THEY ALSO BUILD CHARACTER AND LEARN LEADERSHIP SKILLS BY RUNNING MEETINGS AND HAVING LEADERSHIP POSITION ELECTIONS AT THE CLUB.
What makes Key Club of Vanwest different from all the other Key Clubs of its district? KEY CLUB OF VANCOUVER WESTSIDE IS A COMMUNITY BASED KEY CLUB WHEREAS THE OTHER KEY CLUBS ARE SCHOOL BASED. THIS MAKES MANY FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE NOT ALLOWED IN SCHOOL DUE TO ADMINISTRATIVE RESTRICTIONS POSSIBLE IN OUR CLUB. IN ADDITION, KEY CLUB OF VANCOUVER WESTSIDE IS ONE OF THE TOP CLUBS THAT FUNDRAISE THE MOST IN OUR DISTRICT. ONLY LAST YEAR, WE FUNDRAISED A TOTAL OF $20, 045 FROM JUST A FEW EVENTS.
HARMONIES FOR HOPE CONCERT Our annual Harmonies For Hope Concert turned out to be a tremendous success. Many had come out and supported us to the point that the church was completely filled with guests and performers. The performers were extremely talented and gave an incredible performance. Performances ranged from a poem recitation, a piano concerto, to a dance performance. The audience was very entertained, to say the least. Moreover, we were joined by Miss Teenage Burnaby, Ariel Cao, who not only participated in the dance performance but also gave a speech encouraging everyone to donate to BC Children’s Hospital and Canucks Place. Following the performances, we had an inauguration ceremony bidding farewell to the outgoing board members and welcoming the new board of 2014-2015. I’m really sad to see Tim, Albert, and Jessica go but I look forward to working with the new board members and hope we will be able to lead Key Club for the better. After taking pictures of the entire club and handing out certificates, the raffle prizes were finally handed out. Highlights of the prizes would definitely be the Canucks hockey stick with signatures from the entire team, a Luongo jersey with his signature, and the iPad mini. **I didn’t get any of those prizes :C** Shoutout to Patricia Xie, our lieutenant govenor, for coming out and supporting us. Your support is greatly appreciated!!
