On Sept. 23, 1992, Manon Rhéaume became the first woman to play in any of the major professional North American sports leagues when she appeared for a period in an exhibition game for the Tampa Bay Lightning against the St. Louis Blues. Leading the Lightning onto the ice in the franchise’s first home game against a veteran-laden Blues squad, Rhéaume stopped seven of nine shots and left the game after one period with the score tied 2-2. That appearance launched Rheaume into the hockey spotlight, while at the same time providing a launching pad for girls everywhere to get involved with the sport of women’s hockey. As we celebrate the twenty first anniversary of that ground-breaking event, Manon Rheaume, who lives in the Metro Detroit area, is still involved in the sport she loves and in supporting the generations of female hockey players who are following the path she blazed. This year marks the 5th Annual Manon Rheaume Girls Tournament –bringing together 42 teams from across Canada and the US competing at the 12 and Under,14 and Under, 17 and Under and 19 and Under divisions. Teams from Michigan’s Tri-County area competing in the tournament include Compuware, HoneyBaked, Little Caesars and Team Detroit – Belle Tire and Victory Honda. Round robin games will be scheduled Friday, November 8th – Sunday, November 10th at four local ice arenas: Suburban Ice Farmington Hills, Compuware Sports Arena, Farmington Hills Ice Arena and Novi Ice Arena. Rheaume is personally involved in all aspects of the tournament and makes it a point to be a visible figure throughout the four day event. The off-ice highlight of the weekend is the Friday evening, Tournament Banquet held at the Sheraton Novi, which building on the success of previous years is sold out for the second time. This one-of-a-kind girls hockey gala provides a unique setting to promote girls hockey by interacting with over 500 players, parents and coaches. In addition to Rheaumes presence, this years’ Tournament Banquet will feature guest speaker Sami Jo Small, a Three-Time Olympian and a member of two Olympic Gold Medal Winning teams including just recently in Torino, Italy. Her childhood dream became reality when she accepted a spot on the 1998 Olympic Games team traveling to Nagano, Japan. Women’s hockey was on the rise and Sami Jo was a huge part of its success. She has since won five World Championships and has twice been named Championship MVP. Sami Jo is a role-model for female players in the sport, and the Manon Rheaume Tournament is honored to have her enlighten our group with her own personal story. The tournament and banquet provides funding for The Manon Rheaume Foundation, started in 2008 to inspire young girls to reach for their dreams in hockey and in life. The foundation’s goal is to be able to award an annual scholarship to girls under the age of nineteen (19) who have expressed a desire to pursue their dreams in athletics to further or enable their respective athletic careers.

Rules & Regulations
REGISTRATION
• Team representative must provide player’s names and numbers for score sheet (labels accepted) prior to each game at the registration table or main office. • All coaches are required to sign the officials score sheet prior to the start of each game. • All teams must be USA Hockey or Hockey Canada rostered.
RULES • All USA Hockey/MAHA rules apply. • There are no protests. • Referees will be instructed to strictly enforce zero tolerance rules. The tournament directors reserve the right to remove from the arena players, coaches or spectators who violate USA Hockey zero tolerance policies. • Players receiving major penalties for fighting in tournament games shall be immediately suspended for all games remaining in the tournament. Players may be subject to additional suspensions by their home governing bodies. • Any player or coach receiving a game misconduct penalty shall be suspended for the next tournament game. • Any player, coach or manager who receives a match penalty shall be suspended immediately for the balance of the tournament. • Tournament directors reserve the right to make final decisions regarding the interpretation of all rules and regulations. • Teams will be awarded two (2) points for a win, one (1) point for a tie, and zero points for a loss.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT Intermediate AA (19U) and Pee Wee AA (12U) The tournament field is 8 teams, for both age groups, divided into two (2) brackets of four (4) teams. The top two (2) teams based on points earned in the round robin from each bracket will advance to the gold quarterfinal round. The gold semi-final round winners will advance to the gold finals. The remaining four (4) teams will play in the silver playoff round. The silver semi-final round winners will advance to the silver final. Tournament Director reserves the right, at his/her discretion, to re-seed the quarterfinal to avoid playing a team twice in the Tournament or playing a team from the same regular season league. Midget AA (17U) The tournament field is ten (10) teams. Teams will play a 3 game round robin. At the conclusion of the round robin, the teams will be seeded 1 – 10 based on points earned in the round robin. In the event of a tie, the tiebreaker criteria will be used. Once the seeds are determined, seeds 1 – 8 will advance to the gold quarterfinal round. The four (4) winners of the gold quarterfinal round will advance to the gold semi-final round; the winners of the semi-finals will advance to the gold final. The remaining two (2) teams, seed 9 and 10 will play for the silver championship.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT continued Bantam AA (14U) Division The tournament field is fourteen (14) teams. Teams will play a 3 game round robin. At the conclusion of the round robin, the teams will be seeded 1 – 14 based on points earned in the round robin. In the event of a tie, the tiebreaker criteria will be used. Once the seeds are determined, seeds 1 – 8 will advance to the gold quarterfinal round. The four (4) winners of the gold quarterfinal round will advance to the gold semi-final round; the winners of the semi-finals will advance to the gold final. Seeds 9 – 12 will advance to the silver semi-final round; the winners of the semi-finals will advance to the silver final. The remaining two (2) teams, seed 13 and 14 will play for the bronze championship. Tournament Director reserves the right, at his/her discretion, to re-seed the quarterfinal to avoid playing a team twice in the Tournament or playing a team from the same regular season league.
GAME FORMAT • Three (3) fifteen (15) minute stop-time periods for 12U, 14U and 17U divisions with zero (0) ice resurfaces. The 19U division will play three (3) seventeen (17) minute stop-time periods with an ice cut between 2nd and 3rd period. • Have players ready fifteen (15) minutes prior to game time. If the tournament is running ahead of schedule, teams are expected to be ready to play. • Warm –up time shall be three minutes. • All players must wear numbered uniforms in the proper team colors. • The home team will wear a white or light colored jersey and the visiting team shall wear a dark colored jersey, if possible. • Teams shall shake hands at Center Ice after completion of the game. • Running clock shall take effect if, at any time during the third period, a team has a five (5) or greater goal lead. The clock shall continue to run until the goal differential is reduced to three (3) goals. (Note: the on-ice officials may direct the scorekeeper to stop a running clock in the event of an on-ice injury or other circumstance that he/she warrants stopping the game clock.) • No time outs are allowed in round robin games. Each team may utilize one (1) time out per game in the quarterfinal, semifinal and championship games only. • In the round-robin portion of the Tournament, two (2) points will be awarded for a win, one (1) point for a tie, and zero (0) points for a loss. There will be no overtime in the round-robin play. There will be overtime in the quarterfinals, semi-final and final round of play. Please see the overtime format listed under Tournament Format – Quarterfinal, Semi Finals and Finals.
ADVANCEMENT Standings will be compiled by the On-site Tournament Manager and staff and posted at the arena and online at http://honeybaked.pucksystems.com/page/show/648688-manon-rheaume-tournament. In the event of a tie, final standings will be determined by the following criteria: 1. Head to Head competition – (Note: If more than two teams are tied, all tied teams must have played each other in order for head-to-head to apply). If not, we skip Head to Head and go to Most Wins. 2. Most wins 3. Scoring quotient (Maximum of +5 goal differential per game). For example, a 12-3 game would be scored 8-3. The scoring quotient is calculated by taking an individual team’s goals for divided by goals for + goals against GF / (GF+GA). The team with the higher number advances. Team B advances in the example below: Team A 15 Goals For 7 Goals Against Quotient 15 / (15 + 7) = .681 Team B 14 Goals For 6 Goals Against Quotient 14 / (14 + 6) = .700 4. Fewest Goals Against 5. Number of points obtained per period in the 3 round robin games (2 points for winning a period, 1 for tying a period, and zero for losing a period) 6. Coin toss
TOURNAMENT FORMAT – Quarter-final, Semi-final & Finals In the playoff rounds, each team may utilize one (1) one - minute time-out per game. If a game is tied at the end of the regulation, overtime will be played in the following manner: 1. A five-minute period of 4-on-4 sudden death. All penalty situations are treated the same as regulation time. A team cannot go below three (3) skaters on the ice; if this is the case you will restore back to 5 on 5 rules until the next stoppage of play that allows you to go back to 4-on-4 play 2. Shoot-out Rules – The visiting team will shoot first. At the end of the three (3) shots, the team with the most goals wins the game. Three (3) different shooters must shoot. If the score remains tied, one (1) additional, different shooter from each team is picked and the same procedure is continued until the winner is determined. No player can shoot twice until the entire roster (excluding the goaltender(s) has shot. a. A player serving a minor player at the conclusion of the overtime may not participate in the shootout until all other players have shot. This only applies if the player has not sat the entirety of her penalty. b. Any player serving a 10-minute misconduct penalty at the conclusion of overtime is not allowed to participate in the shootout. This only applies if the player has not sat the duration of her penalty.
