Become an Apprentice! As employees, apprentices earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain skills. Apprentices also receive valuable training to work towards nationally recognised st qualifications. The minimum salary is £2.60 per hour (rising to £2.65 from 1 October 2012) however, apprentices can earn significantly more. There may be different entry requirements depending on the apprenticeship and the industry sector. Competition for places can be fierce so you will need to show you are committed.

**NEW** Creative & Digital Media Apprenticeships with DV8 Brighton An Apprenticeship gives you an amazing opportunity to be fully employed and paid while you also work towards a national qualification. This Advanced Apprenticeship gives you a Level 3 qualification and the know-how, practical skills and experience needed to work in the creative and digital industries. During the Apprenticeship you may be working as a junior web developer, a junior graphic designer, a marketing and social media assistant, or in other similar roles. The programme lasts approximately 12 months, after which time your employer may choose to offer you further work, or you may want to progress onto further education or another job. The digital media industries are rapidly evolving and this is an exciting time to enter this vibrant sector. New entrants will need to have an understanding of these industries.

You must be 16-24 years old at 1st August 2012 to be eligible for this course.

COURSES Foundation Learning is for those aged between 16-18 and who are not in education, employment or training (up to 25 for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities). Qualifications are at entry level and/or level 1 and include functional skills (English, Maths and ICT) and personal & social development.

Foundation Learning offers flexible programmes to help develop skills, confidence and independence in preparation for work, training or further education. Nacro provide a personalised programme of study to help learners gain confidence and achieve the qualifications they need to fulfil their potential. Courses to choose from: • ART & DESIGN – gain Bronze (Level1) and Silver (Level2) Award in the Arts • CHILD CARE – CACHE Award, Certificate & Diploma in Caring for a Child/Children – Entry 3 & Level 1 • CONSTRUCTION – Certificate in Preparation for Employment in the Construction Industries Level 1 • EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS – Functional skills at Entry level and ASDAN Award in Volunteering at an Event, Certificate in the Community Volunteering.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT courses PRINCE’S TRUST TEAM PROGRAMME Run by City College in Brighton, Hove and Shoreham FREE 12 week programme for 16-25 year olds who are unemployed. The programme will help to build confidence and motivation, develop new skills and qualifications. It will look great on your CV and you will have the skills and confidence to apply for a full-time course at City College for September if you wish to do so. The course includes:  an action packed residential week  a work experience placement Travel is free and there are no course costs.

Get Retail Ready - Starting 23



If you are aged 16 - 25, living in Brighton and: Not in education, employment or training (NEET) - but interested in learning more about retail careers Already working in a shop, but want to progress or get promoted • … then Retail Ready People is for you!

Retail Ready People is an exciting FREE 12-week programme for 16 – 25 year olds, which gives you the chance to set up and run a high street shop in your local area. Currently running in Brighton and Enfield, RRP provides training and support as well as practical skills and experience to help you find a job or develop a career you’ll love! Working with a team of volunteers, you'll take part in a series of fun, interactive workshops to help you develop key retail skills. Then you'll put your skills into action, by transforming an empty shop to a creative retail space at the heart of your community. You'll be responsible for managing all aspects of your shop, including customer experience, visual merchandising, stock control, branding, PR, marketing, finance, decorating shop-fitting and staffing. At the end of the project, you will have: • • • •

Worked with other volunteers to design, launch and run a local high-street shop Gained great retail training and experience to help you get promoted or get a new job Developed a range of skills including customer experience, visual merchandising, stock control, branding, PR, marketing, finance and staffing. Shared your time and talents to make a positive difference in your community
