Become an Apprentice! As employees, apprentices earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain skills. Apprentices also receive valuable training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications. The minimum salary is £2.65 per hour however, apprentices can earn significantly more. There may be different entry requirements depending on the apprenticeship and the industry sector. Competition for places can be fierce so you will need to show you are committed.

COURSES Foundation Learning is for those aged between 16-18 and who are not in education, employment or training (up to 25 for learners with learning difficulties/disabilities). Qualifications are at entry level and/or level 1 and include functional skills (English, Maths and ICT) and personal & social development, combined with some real work skills experience.

Pre-Apprentice Traineeships Varndean College (in partnership with Crew Club) Duration: 6 - 30 weeks, 16 hours pw (4 half days pw). Course options include: Enterprise & Marketing: Design a product, explore marketing & advertising & develop business skills including sales, promotion & customer service. Enterprise & Employability: Develop work skills, improve job prospects, gain qualifications. Learn business and enterprise skills. Care: Explore childcare & development; develop practical skills with real babies! A stepping stone to care based courses at Level 2.

Access to Music - LEVEL 1 POPULAR MUSIC COURSE This practical 28 week, 2 day per week course is music based and is ideal for relative beginners in music playing and music production. Vocational workshops include: performance skills, composition/arrangement, instrumental/programming skills, music technology and music business/promotion. It also supports the development of personal and social skills, including functional skills in literacy, numeracy and ICT. Students will benefit from ATM’s national and local enrichment programmes as well as access to its studio and rehearsal facilities.

New Foundation Learning for 16-18 year olds in Mile Oak, Portslade Do you want to learn how to run your own business? Join ‘The Biz’ and learn how to run your own social enterprise:  Restoring furniture  Printing and selling cards, bags and t-shirts  Repairing and selling bikes  Gain qualifications in creative craft, enterprise skills, progression award (CVs, job skills and team-building), maths and English. You can gain experience of running a business, work experience and qualifications. Travel costs will be paid along with a weekly allowance of up to £20

courses DV8 Training Brighton - Courses for 16-19 year olds - £25 - £30 per week paid to those eligible for bursary - Courses are 3 days per week - A flexible, personalised learning programme, tuition from experts and professionals - Nationally recognised qualifications - Opportunities for work experience in creative industries - Opportunities to release music singles, curate catwalk shows, exhibit work in public - Support with applications to college and work - Opportunities for industry work experience on all courses! CREATIVE UPLOAD (10-22 weeks) • Learn a broad range of creative and media skills, such as making music or films, designing t-shirts, learning about photography and more. This course is flexible and allows you to work at your own pace. LIVE EVENT PRODUCTION • Create, promote & deliver the DV8 end of year event • Hands on experience of the live events industry • Co-ordinate musicians & artists to perform on the night. Learn stage & production skills MUSIC PRODUCTION (12 weeks) • Produce your own music from dubstep to hip-hop to rock using industry standard software. Military Preparation College - Brighton The college is ideal preparation for the Armed Forces or for a career in public services. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT courses PRINCE’S TRUST TEAM PROGRAMME Run by City College in Brighton, Hove and Shoreham FREE 12 week programme for 16-25 year olds who are looking for work. The programme will help to build confidence and motivation, develop new skills and qualifications. It will look great on your CV and you will have the skills and confidence to apply for work, training or a full-time course at college. National Citizen Service - Brighton and Hove - 5 week programme A once in a lifetime opportunity for 16 and17 year olds in England that helps you build your skills for work and life, while you take on new challenges and meet new friends. Phase one: a week away at an outdoor pursuit centre. Phase two: a week living independently in a local youth centre, hostel or halls of residence. Phase three: design a project to help a local charity or cause. Phase four: work in your team to deliver a social action project in your community. ** Cost: £50 includes all accommodation, transport, training, food and ceremony** *Bursary available to those that are eligible*
