Reacting to contextual urban anchor points such as surrounding facades, pedestrian paths, existing buildings and landmarks results in a site plan synthesizing old and new. Utilizing the site as a series of inhabitable layers rather than one ground level increases the usable open space for inhabitants in addition to green space. LA

EXISTING SITE
EXISTING SECTION
The Moretta site connects the Tiber River to the Chiesa Nuova across four major traffic thoroughfares. The church and the river embankment are the anchor points. Two bodies, separated by empty space, are present in the “Creation of Adam” painting at the nearby Sistine Chapel. The monolithic embankment and church are destinations connected by active public space and a pedestrian network.
