THINK DIFFERENT STEM ADS. Rather than the traditional approach to advertising and marketing, I take a more integrated approach based on a genuine desire to communicate with consumers. Instead of creating commercials about products and services, stem ads allow companies to showcase how they are making a difference - in the environment, in industrial relations, in society, or another arena of public life. Stem ads are essentially short documentaries about the people and processes behind the product or service being marketed. A stem ad can be segmented and shown during breaks in a TV program, more as a form of communication than as a blatant advertisement. BROADCAST DESIGN BROADCAST DESIGN COMBINES MOVING IMAGES CAPTURED BY FILM OR VIDEO CAMERAS WITH GRAPHIC ELEMENTS AND SPECIAL EFFECTS TO COMMUNICATE MESSAGES TO THE VIEWER. THE SYNTHESIS OF SOUND AND MOVEMENT ENGAGES AND ENTERTAINS THE VIEWER. 3D GENERATED MODELS ARE OFTEN USED TO CREATE MORE REALISTIC EFFECTS, EVIDENT IN THE DESIGN OF TELEVISION SERIES, COMPUTER GAME TITLES, FILM & INTERACTIVE MEDIUMS. The new SBS rebrand introduced a coloured thread made from dots representing humans and their stories. The threads were individually animated to have there own personalities. In these style frames the dot was squashed by a falling TV for comic effect.

OVERVIEW Future Focus was a series of documentaries and programming that highlighted the current state of our planet and the issues affecting it. The look and feel of Future Focus was to be soft, organic and optimistic; not too 'futuristic and tekkie'. The imagery and promotional activity reflected four categories: science, ecology, evolution and a generic future focus area. The series was a huge success for SBS, with viewers engaging with on-air and online activities as well as competitions, such as the Eco House Challenge. DESIGN RATIONALE Extracting one shape from the SBS logo and applying it to various objects was the main design focus. This organic shape has endless possibilities and is an excellent device to promote the SBS brand. When combined with natural images, objects and shapes it creates impact while giving a clean positive idea of Future Focus. The combination of designed and natural images reflects the areas of program content (technological, ecological, human). It is also a reminder of the importance of adapting our lives to address the environmental and technical challenges we face in the future.

SBS TELEVISION THE WORLD GAME BROADCAST DESIGN TITLE PACKAGE 2007 DIRECT - CREATIVE - OLIVIA MEREDITH


OVERVIEW Initially established as an informative online football portal for SBS in 2000, The World Game grew a cult following amongst the Australian football community and in 2002 The World Game program was launched on SBS television, replacing the 21-year-old ‘World Soccer’ program. DESIGN RATIONALE The development of The World Game brand was completed in 2007 and launched in 2008. The main objective was to be distinct from any other television sporting brand on-air. This was achieved using live action combined with fresh and contemporary colours and design. New logo, set-design, opening titles, on-air score results and promo packaging was just a small part of the new overarching branding for SBS television.

OVERVIEW NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. NAIDOC originally stood for 'National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee'

RATIONALE The on-air campaign consisted of a series of six indents which were designed and produced to reflect the nature of the event. The project involved research into a variety of artworks and styles to create the final graphic animations shown on the following page.

The 3D rooms were designed and animated in 3D Studio Max and rendered using VRAY rendering engine for the ďŹ nished result. 3D Models were supplied by IKEA in Sweden.

The 2002 season marks a quarter century for the World of Outlaws has grown into both the most popular and most lucratlve form of dirt track motor sport ln the United States. World of Outlaws Sprlnt Cars 2002 for the PlayStation 2 takes these cars off the track and on to your console. Now you can experience the speed and excitement of the World of Outlaws for yourself. RATIONALE Design and production of this flagship game included opening titles, interface design and video production. A unique and realisic approch to the sport included player profile video cards, 3D navigation of interface design and a collection of history videos which can be unlocked.

ENTREPRENEUR A SIGN OF THINGS TO COME OXYGEN Studios has drawn on its web, print and DVD design skills to produce its new Dynamic Digital Signage product which has just been installed in Adelaide. Creative director Michael Strelan combined elements of print and television advertising but also brought in animation and movement. The signs, which incorporate a flat-screen display, can be updated remotely, allowing advertisers to change campaigns without costly refits and tailor their advertising to the season.

BOOST JUICE Hard work can really pay off. In other words, going the extra mile. Piecing it all together is not always that easy, but when a plan finally comes together its definitely worth it. In most cases it always comes out better than imagined and Boost Juice is a great example of one of my personal achievements. My company at the time was commissioned to install its first digital sign into one of Boost Juice’s major stores in Swanston Steet in Melboure. I had been approached by Jff Allis, one of the owners, after he had read a newspaper editorial about how my company had just installed our first digital signage system for a high profile retailer in Adelaide and how we planned to take on new markets.

JURECKY DESIGN The visual basis of Jurecky Design is the individual signature style of Jason Jureckya simplistic and contemporary reflection of his nature and style in design. Divided into 3 main areas of expertise - furniture, interior and landscaping3 icons have been designed to promote the skills and services offered by the business. Enhanced by colour, texture and movement, the icons symbolise the detail and understanding of materials and elements used in the design process. The furniture icon to the right is a simple representation of a table; the line weight reflects the style of furniture. The floating space of the table top shows how Jason's designs are versatile in function.

THE IDEA Pickme! is a children's product range based on fun filled flower pots, sherbet sticks and greeting cards. The original concept is based around the packaging design, which can be used when the product is consumed. I developed this idea when I first moved to Sydney 10 years ago. I was looking for a mothers day gift for mum and really couldn't find anything suitable. A card was OK, but as mum is a florist I wanted something a little more significant. Ironically, flowers were out of the question. So I came up with the idea of buying a card and a packet of seeds, which were tulips or something similar. I posted the items, which were flat and didn't cost me any more than one postage stamp. The idea simply evolved from this point. I then looked at now using seeds in the actual card stock, so when the consumer is finished with the card, you can dig a hole in the ground and put the card in and watch it grow.


All of the products in Pickme! range came from the idea of 2 gifts in one - a product that has more than one purpose.

“ I like always to combine product and packaging, so that the consumer can use one resource twice.� The products are all hand made and assembled. The flowers are digitally printed and laser-cut and the flowerpots are made from an existing mould. Each product has been designed using current and available resources eliminating additional tooling.
