Michael Small

Michael Small is an English-born composer currently living in Ithaca N.Y. Michael recently received the Alan Horne prize from the Royal Philharmonic Society as part of their annual Young Composer commissions. His piece for solo violin called White Space for UK violinist Fenella Humphreys was premiered at the Presteigne Festival in August 2015 and will receive further performances in Bristol and Oxford on the Presteigne Tour in Autumn 2015. Michael’s work for the Momenta Quartet, Memory Palace will receive its New York premiere in October 2015 as part of the Momenta Festival. Michael is just completing his doctorate in composition at Cornell University with Steven Stucky and Kevin Ernste, where he was recently awarded the James Blackmore prize for his "outstanding work in music".
