Cara + Michael Exclusive interview with the Bride and Groom.

How did you meet? Cara: I went to an all girls high school

that had two brother schools: Strake & St. Thomas. I was totally a Strake girl; I was a Strake Cheerleader, on the Strake Spirit club, etc. But one day my friend who was dating a St. Thomas boy asked me to go to a St. Thomas party. I didn’t know anyone! So I started talking to this guy next me. We ended up hanging out all night and talking. Nine years later, we are getting married!

Q&A

Michael: We were NOT high school

sweethearts as it was my graduation party at my friends house. And I called her the wrong name all night!

What was your first date?

Michael: I remember it being interest-

ing. It took awhile to do anything because she was busy traveling. I remember seeing a terrible movie with a group of friends. After the movie, she drove over an island in the middle of the parking lot.

Cara: We went to see a movie with some

friends and he held my hand in the theatre. However, the most interesting part of the evening was when I forgot that I was parked in front of a curb and drove right over it with Michael watching. However, he must have forgiven my goof because he invited me to hang out at his mom’s house the next day and we hung out every day for the next two weeks!

The Shannon Wedding 10

What do you like to do together? Michael:

One of my favorite things to do with Cara is to just hang out and relax. We’re always so busy that’s it’s fun to just chill sometimes. Renting a movie, ordering Chinese food and enjoying a glass of wine with her is my favorite thing to do!

Cara: I like it when we cook together. Together, we’ve made some really great meals. All types of cuisines! We don’t use a lot of reciepes. Instead, we like to get an idea and then improve on it. Michael is good with the grill and stove and I like to bake.

The Shannon Wedding 11

Proposal Story? Michael : I bought her tickets to the Bos-

ton Wine Expo for Valentine’s Day. It was a lot of fun and a good excuse to get her in the city. After the expo, we went to Legal Seafoods by the Aquarium where her family always at on vacations to Boston. Then I took her to a spot we had hung out that first summer we were dating. That’s where I asked her. Then we went to her favorite hotel where there was chocolate covered strawberries and champagne waiting for us in our suite. And we called all our friends.

The Shannon Wedding 12

Cara: Michael nailed the proposal. When we were dating in 2005, we met up in Boston. He was there to visit family and I was on my way back from summering in Maine. It just so happened we were there at the same time. We walked around Boston and then hung out in Christopher Columbus Park to watch the planes take off from Logan Airport. While we were sitting there, a man came up to us and asked us for money. Generously, Michael handed

Honeymoon Plans? Cara: We are going to cel-

ebrate Texas style after the wedding, but our big trip is definitely going to be Europe. We’re planning an awesome vacation full of castles (and sports stadiums...), lake retreats and delicious food.

Michael: I’ve always found

Switzerland and the lake region there interesting. We planning to fly into Munich, head through that Switzerland and then end up flying home from Italy.

the man a few dollars. The guys smiled and said “I can tell you two are not married yet because he still has all his money!” We laughed about it for years because we thought it was funny that he thought we were even old enough to get married! The day he proposed to me we went back to that spot. It felt very full circle and special. Oh! It was snowy and there was no one else around. It was like a dream! Michael did a good job!

Learn How To Play Three Thirteen

You Need:

- 2+ Card Decks (No Jokers) - 2 or more players

Game Objective:

Get all your cards into sets and accumulate the least points by the final round.

Dealing

The first dealer, chosen at random, deals three cards to each person. In each successive round, the deal passes to the left and increases a card until the last round (13 cards). Dealer turns one card up to start the discard pile. Rest remain face down.

Playing

Dealer begins play and continues clockwise. A player draws either the top card from the discard pile or the top card from the rest of the deck. Player must discard one card. When a player goes out (all cards in sets), everyone continues one last turn and then tallies points. The Shannon Wedding 16

Three Thirteen is our go-to card game at Michael’s grandparents house in New Hampshire.

Making Sets There are two types of sets, all of the same rank (4-4-4) or a sequence of the same suit (4-5-6 of Hearts). A set must contain at least 3 cards. Once all of the cards are sets, the player “goes out.”

Wild Cards

In each round the card equal to the number of cards dealt is the “wild card.” It can be used to help make a set.

Scoring

At the end of the round, each of a players cards NOT in a set counts towards his score. Points are face value, with Ace being 1 & face cards being 10. The player with the lowest score after all rounds, wins.

Our Favorite Games Corn Hole

(Corn Toss, Bean Bags, Tailgate Toss, etc)

You Need: - 2 Cornhole Boards - 8 Bean Bags (4 For Each Team) - 2 Teams of 2 Players

Game Objective: Try to get bean bags on or through the board to get to 21 points.

Setting Up Set the cornhole boards 27 ft apart. A member of each team stands by each board. Flip a coin to see which team goes first.

Playing

Scoring

Scoring is done at the end of each round. Each bag on the board’s surface counts as one point. Each bag in the board’s hole counts as 3 points. Subtract each team’s points to get the score for the round. Example: Team A has 2 bags on the board and 1 bag in the hole for 5 Points. Team B has 1 bag on the board and 2 bags in the hole for 7 points. Team B wins the round with 2 points and throws the next round.

A player for the starting team throws one bage. Opponent alternate throws each time. The team that collects the most points from each round throws first next round. If it is tied, then the alternative from the last round throws first. The Shannon Wedding 17
