SAMPLE PROJECT V e c to r P o r t r a i t

For this project, we had to find a picture of someone or something that isn’t already a vector and create shapes using the pen tool and the shadows and the lighting to make the picture vectorized. I learned that most art pieces like this one take a lot of time and effort to finish and to persevere and get the job done. I was challenged by finding the shapes in the image I had chosen. I enjoyed getting the shading and the shapes right on the picture and finding the correct amount of shapes.

SAMPLE PROJECT Double Exposure

In this assignment, the class had their picture taken to then mask the image you chose into the captured pictured. I learned how to use different effects to a picture then give the image a new look and feel. The challenging part was getting the images to “fuse and give it a half me, half the mountain range as well as the fog. I enjoyed how we could almost turn our head into a mountain-top or into a mushroom cloud.

SAMPLE PROJECT

E n v i r o n m e n ta l P o s t e r

For this design project, we were tasked to make a poster for the Environmenteers Teen Poster Contest in Santa Cruz that would encourage people to protect and enjoy our environment and our community. I chose to go the direction of being very straight forward with the message and say to “Go Outside” rather than use the generic “our world is in danger symbolism.” I ended up winning in the poster contest.

SAMPLE PROJECT T y p E I n t e g r at i o n

In this project, we were asked to use a picture of a celebrity or a model of our choice and a word or phrase to make a type integration poster. I used Photoshop to select the actor from the original image so I can place the type behind them and around him. To make the top and bottom words look more translucent, I used a blending mode so you can still see the type but you can see the background through the text.

SAMPLE PROJECT M u r a l P r oj e c t

This project was a collaboration with the Digital Photography students. We sought to take pictures of the students and have them write a ten word phrase that relates to Harbor High School. To achieve this image, I had to decide on a framing for the student I had to find a font that could be read from a far and not be too busy. I ended up using two different fonts to make it look like it could have been hand written with a dry brush.

SAMPLE PROJECT D u s t jac k e t D e s i g n

In this assignment we had to make a dust jacket for the book of our choosing. I chose to make a book cover for The Martian by Andy Weir. I decided to incorporate a picture of Mars with a small astronaut standing on the planet. I used a more futuistic font to convey the time period that the book takes place. To make the project more simple to make, I split the cover into five pieces, the front, the back, the spine, and the right and left flaps.
